I can't help but think that this is another antennagate... a problem that has been way overblown by the media and a minority of users due to it being scrutinized to death. Although I can't speak for the rest of the world, in the NJ/NYC area, the new maps is more detailed, provides more useful info and is far easier to read than the previous maps app. And my co-workers and friends who've upgraded to iOS 6 prefer the new maps as well.

As for missing features, personally, I hope Apple doesn't waste time & resources on creating its own version of Street View, which has limited usefulness for most people and quickly becomes outdated in major cities, but I do hope they eventually integrate transit info and focus on bringing more meaningful improvements than nice to haves and cool tech demos like flyover and street view.

If it is something others, I will not complain. But it is map, a tool used daily, a tool can help people find his way, at least apple should give people a second choice when his users are in urgency (at least at least, it should let me downgrade to ios5). apple is not only childish, it is immoral.

I wish people would stop saying crap like " well Google maps had problems any first". That's true and all but Google maps was working perfectly fine before ios 6 and it still works on ios5. Apple is forcing us to basically use a BETA version of their maps system.

If you live in a big city the good for. But us folks who live in small towns and outside of America have crap. If it took years for Google maps to get sorted out then just think how long apple will take.

Apple maps won't be ready until ios8

This didn't catch Google "off-guard". Google is happy to sit back and watch iOS users suffer for Apple's mistake, hoping those users will move to the Android platform. They will take their own sweet time in submitting for approval, but don't expect it to happen until next year sometime.

Funny how quick we all forget what Google maps was like before they gained loads of crowd-sourced data. It's going to take some time for Apple to catch up, but the more people use it and report problems, the better it will get.

Apple could do with a "register your business on our maps" service like Google has got. You get a code through the post to prove you are who you say you are. It's perfect. I'd fill it in now if they had one.

in the neighborhood i live in in nyc - i'm finding apple's maps to be more accurate and up to date. google is missing some new and old restaurants that apple is showing, it has my hardware store in the wrong location. so let's not look at apple critically with out looking at google with the same amount of criticism.

This may have been mentioned already, but what happens to devices unable to update to iOS 6 with Google Maps installed on them after this contract between Apple and Google expires? One would assume you'd be out of luck, no?

Google says that they will support old versions of iOS.

I think generally as a guideline. Was Google maps usable when it first came out?
There are always TONNES of error when something new comes out. We just need to report them. Stop making a big fuss over something you should NEVER trust 100% anyways.

Honestly, I have no problems with either, the turn by turn and interaction with siri made it way better for me. As for navigation software, I have both Navigon and TomTom as well, just as a back up . Cuz, none of them can be trusted 100% of the time.

Has anyone tried the Google+ Local app? What does it do for mapping in iOS6? (I'm staying with 5 for a bit) This is where I go for POIs, not to Maps. I never liked the results to show in a map first.

I love apple maps!

I think we just need to give it a chance! Google maps was not perfect either when it started. Users used it and it got better over years! Same with Apple! so lets stop crying and start submitting errors! to help make it better!

I dont understand why everyone always has to complain about something! If you dont like it return it to apple and move to android and POOF!!! you get Google Maps!

Lets stop complaining because as you can tell its NOT going to help! Lets move forward with what we got!

Yep. If I were in charge of Google maps I'd make sure it was the most awesome map software available for IOS. They're under no pressure to rush anything out, they can see how well that goes :p

Once submitted to the AppStore I'd publicise it, show off all the features so that when/if Apple rejected it everyone would know the state of play.

Of course I'd keep the ability to offline stuff back. You have to keep something for your prioritised users.

Sorry mate you've missed the point. Apple had years, maybe three, to get their solution off the ground. They also had the advantage of taking on board Googles experience with starting from scratch. The shouldn't have been in the same starting position eight years on. You and others seem to have too much faith in this idea of crowd-sourced data. You have to offer users a solution that is at least close to ,say 90%, accurate or they just won't bother using it in the first place to offer error reports.

I love Apple gear but I'm not blind to the ridiculous situation they have put themselves in. It's amazing how many folks on here see this as a storm in a teacup, a problem being talked up by Android fanboys or a software glitch that's going to magically get patched. Whilst I agree people posting here may not represent the vast majority of IOS users, this issue has gone mainstream in a lot of the media. You'd have to pretty blind to not recognise that this must affect millions of map users across the world.

Que., the "it's the media fault" and "really, millions prove it" posts.

I think i give up:rolleyes:

This is so clueless I barely know where to start. I'll try nonetheless:

Do you think Apple would accept my iPad back? Or my 4S? If they'll give me the £600 I paid for it last year then ok. If not then you're talking out of your ass.

5 years back there were no smart phones or google maps wherever you go, how were all the complainers functioning :p
Maybe you are going to be lost on the way home

It's a new app just give it time, or go back to the paper map :p

For everyone who is saying Apple maps is new, give them a chance and all, this proves why people make fun of the iSheeps. They will go any length to defend actions of a company that does not care about its customers and raises ridiculous lawsuits and ending agreements prematurely to make the customer suffer.
And yes as someone posted before, i wish people in USA would just stop saying apple maps is good and all. There is a world outside USA for god's sake.

Well the neighborhood that I live in in Manhattan everything listed is at least a block off and by far and away less accurate than google maps. So I call shenanigans on your post.

;)

Is it unreasonable or just selfish greed? Let's not romantisize Apples inability to collaborate with the rest of the world. They would prefer to force a lessor product on their user base than inteligently work with other companies to enhance and provide better soloutions.

If every company took this approach we would still be banging rocks in the dark ages.

5 years ago there were a lot of different smartphones and there were Google Maps and plenty of other map solutions

i'm in chelsea and everything is where it should be - what neighborhood are you in?

and I hate when updates wipe out perfectly functional apps and replace them with crappy ones. Is it hard to understand?

Agreed. Podcasts were removed from the Music App. So now you can't download them on iTunes and sync them over via WIFI. Noooo, now you gotta download it again with the Podcast app which is utterly useless. Auto-Downloads don't work, "mark as played" resets randomly, if you pause a podcast and press the button on the headphon cable after a few hours, it starts playing music instead of resuming the podcast, etc...
Oh and they made it really cumbersome to scrub around in podcasts now.

Why couldnt they add turn by turn? Was that something Apple had to stipulate to in order to have access to Google's Maps database? Google didnt create the Maps app, Apple did. Google just supplied the data behind the app.

It's been stated in other threads here and elsewhere that the agreement with google didn't allow for that...or at least not without other concessions such as google branding or advertisements. fact? I really don't know, but I've read that for years now.

Absolutely irrelevant and incorrect. Google Maps was launched in 2005. iOS users had an accurate map app prior to iOS 6 now they don't. That's like saying the signal on this new phone is pretty poor and you saying "well you know we didn't have phones 30 years ago, shut up complaining". It's a bit condescending to suggest people only use maps to find their way home!
