I don't wear watches, and I am not obsessed with any watch, let alone bulky ones. I am interested in the AW though.

I never heard of guys liking bulky watches, is it because of status? Or functionality?
I wear a Diesel watch with these dimensions...
DZ7348_00QQQ_01_F.jpg

Case Size: 51 mm
Case Thickness: 12 mm

So yeah, it's big! i was hoping Apple will increase the size of their AW for me to consider buying it.

Apple are not leading - this is Playnitride's technology .... not Apples's
True, BUT how fast could Apple snap up Playnitride? Ka-Ching! Easy-peasy, Grasshopper

[doublepost=1522943299][/doublepost]Sorry, monster watch guy, but Apple will never increase the size of the Apple watch. Better stick to that half pounder on your wrist to help with the daily weight lifting routine. :D

Thinner display may not mean a thinner watch or phone. What it could mean though is the same size for both, but a bigger battery in both.

That's not a bad shout.

LOL, so the rumor is Apple will increase the size of the Apple Watch by 15%, I'll take that.
Yeah whenever I wear that monstrosity it turns into a conversation with people, generally in a good way :)

It is ironic that the watch that is supposed to help people slim down is so FAT. Don't get me wrong I have worn the watch since the launch day (I am wearing my 4th watch now). I wish wish wish it would be thinner.

I don't get this. Guys from what I have seen are obsessed with bulky watches. Not sure why this should be different.
By the way I agree with you and I want thinner Apple Watch. Is just that most guys I have seen use masive watches.
I would agree. I am one of those big watch guys. Most everyone I know who wears watches, wears a fairly large watch. Typically some type of chronograph.

Maybe it is because I don't wear a watch, but the current AW size is too thick for me. I would rather something really thin.
Anecdotally, most every guy I know is a big watch wearer. Mostly mechanical, a few Garmins mixed in, and a surprisingly, some Sammy S3's. All big. The only AW's in my personal circle belong to my in-laws. To me, they look dainty and unisex.

Well, OLED became a reality about 30 years ago, so its time for the whole industry to "upgrade", even as OLED displays used in phones, tablets and TV's are just finally starting to become widespread today. microLED seems like the next logical progression.

The key to any new technology would be ease of manufacture and how cheap you can make it, if microLED surpasses OLED on both accounts then in 5 years nobody will be using OLED anymore.

It's interesting Apple even bothered with OLED, but perhaps they were expecting microLED research to reach practical application by the time the iPhone X was ready to manufacture, but obviously had to use OLED as the current "high end" display technology in their anniversary flagship phone. I just found it laughable that Apple suggested they waited for OLED to be perfect before using it, I think the reality is they were forced to use it because their investment in microLED hasn't paid out yet.

Apple will be the leader in implementation of these displays. It will be like their lead in 3D sensing.

I think it's pretty clear Apple doesn't "invent" hardware technology. That's not the point.

Just like how they lead with OLED, Qi, Voice Assistant (google now beats them hands down) Pro machines, larger iphones, curved screens, etc? Apple Lead - lead my a%% ;)

And really, that's a lot of propaganda you are pusing! Apple isn't perfect, and Apple certainly hasn't been leading technology (software or hardware) in many areas for many years. Personally, I have no issues calling BS on Apple when they make a bad move (you are holding it wrong, or Tim Cook's recent affirmation that Siri is a solid feature, one button mouse, incoherent 3D touch).

I think Apple Fans who aren't open to criticizing Apple are a real issue. We need people to understand Apple is just a corporation, that is not infallible. You can't believe the PR spin all the time.

Lastly, I should add to my signature: Tim Cook - Apple's CEO with the least personality, ever!

I think Apple just realized with the iPhoneX that the massively hyped OLED isn't the solution it was looking for and now pushes all buttons to get the real deal.

I don't wear watches

if there was ever an Apple device that I think needs to be thinner, the Apple Watch would be it.

So, you don’t wear watches, and yet you have an opinion that the Apple Watch needs to be thinner? How Would you know that by experience if you don’t wear watches? Seems Rather contradictory what you’re posting.

And Actually, if you look at the smart watch competition, the Apple Watch is relatively thin and lighter compared to the Garmin Fenix, Gear S3/Android wear, Fossil, etc. The Apple Watch is much smaller than all the other smart watches primarily on the market.

Hope this is true.
A great product with much potential.

My biggest love for a new screen would be to shrink down those GIANT bezels.

Given such a tiny screen on your wrist, keeping the body of the watch the same size, but improving this aspect, with a screen that covered the whole front, without needing to insist on black backgrounds to apps to try and hide the bezels would be a massive bonus.

I pray, with the new screen tech, the bezels vanish at the same time. be so much nicer.

That's actually a badass watch. Does it crush cars though?

Why aren’t you picking things they do lead in such as mobile silicon, camera hardware and software (they made 2 lenses a thing, portrait bokeh, etc), wearables, wireless headphones, FaceID with 3D sensing tech Android is now trying to copy, etc.

Markets haven’t spoken about wanting curved screens, not sure why you mentioned that as if this an advantage. The oled in iPhone X is folded to work in its design, not like they can’t design a phone with a curved screen.

Apple isn’t infallible, but they certainly aren’t the bumbling idiot company with no vision as portrayed here. They also have an incredible CEO who is leading Apple to records in sales, profit, and market capitalization. Shareholders love him, and just gave him an overwhelming vote of confidence earlier this year.

Samsung is already invested heavily in MicroLED technology, sure they will beat Apple to the punch!!!!! As usual.......:rolleyes::rolleyes:
You mean like beating them to the punch with the current smartphone form factor, FaceID, Animoji, depth sensing cameras, dual camera, and iOS?

Apple is going to lead on the implementation. Samsung is a hardware manufacturer. Apple is not invested in making their own hardware...that's too low margin for Apple, who makes much more profit than Samsung. Samsung is in a ton of low margin businesses like TVs, home appliances, etc.

I don’t even need to list what the S9 PLUS and Note 8 has over any iPhone or iPad since it’s a long list :D:rolleyes: And many people are just fine or even better with Samsung’s implementations ......

And hey look at Samsung already implementing MicroLED while Apple hasn’t even got started....

1) We aren't talking about TVs. 146" prototype TV which will never be relevant to consumers.
2) The hardware has to be IMPLEMENTED properly and work with software in harmony.
3) You say many people are fine with Samsung's implementation, which is true, but the iPhone is FAR more popular than the Galaxy series. It isn't close. Apple sells well over 220M iPhones/yr.

Actually, the rumor is that they’re going to increase the screen size by 15%. They could easily do that without increasing the size of the watch.

No one was discussing sales of phones (a company that depends on the sales of just phones will eventually fall....Apple is dependent on the iPhone and you know it)....thanks........microled technology was the subject.....and Apple hasnt even got something out that proves they are doing well with the technology yet Samsung does have protypes etc.

They bought and actual company that had products and prototypes, you know that but babble on.

What Samsung has is inapplicable to a phone or a watch (10-15 times bigger than the equivalent in a watch that would also need a huge amount of volume (so manufacturing tech is immensely different both in what it is and the scope it is)), again you know that, but yet that's your "point".

And Google and Facebook are almost entire dependent on Ad revenue and Exxon is entirely dependent on oil...what you’re point?

Apple sold 220M iPhone in 2017 and you think that will just suddenly “fall” despite constant technological advancements and an all new iPhone lineup coming for 2018? Apple’s other non iPhone businesses are larger than most companies and are growing. Check out services, wearables, and Apple Music lately?

Yeah while Samsung has the ability to not have to buy a company and simply make their own designs etc. as usual.
