Honestly with the M4 and M5 being so close in time, I’m no longer sure what to wait for, because the M4 will use a similar node, while the M5 will use the new node at 2nm using a new transistor architecture (GAAFET). Maybe it’s worth waiting until the second half of 2025.
The longer you wait the better off you are. I think I'm just going to wait until my i9 iMac melts into a puddle on my desk. ...and then just get another one.

You’re overthinking things; buy a computer when you need/want a computer. If you can wait a year until mid 2025, then you didn’t need a new computer now.

Can't wait for the MX chip. lol.
Yep. Story of my -tech- life.

Agree, I’m overthinking a bit, and also yes, I think I can wait until mid 2025 but in order to do some non-essential tasks (mostly hobbies) I could really use an M2, M2 Pro or M3 Mac. But I’ll try to wait as long as I can, not only for the power, but also -and most importantly- for longevity and macOS support.

What worries me if they're trying to keep this 1 new CPU per year cadence is they might fall into the Intel (and to a lesser extent AMD) trap of increasing power consumption to insane values in the name of showing more performance every year...

Unfortunately, a potential Tick Tock situation may now exist with the iMac and Mac mini trading places alongside new MacBook Pros. In January 2023, Apple shipped M2 MacBook Pros and Mac minis. In October 2023, Apple shipped M3 MacBook Pros and iMacs. I hope this is just a coincidence and we get M3 Mac minis soon. Nice table MacRumors team.

I wonder if they would be able to sell any of the AppleCar tech to other companies. I personally always thought we would find out that it wouldn't be a standalone car company but rather a model manufactured by another company like BMW.

I would think they'd take what they learned from whatever R&D they did and maybe partner with an existing EV manufacturer. Though with GM ditching 3rd party and going with their own in house the value prop from Apple may not be enough to entice. But who knows.

My M1ProMBP coverage goes into 2025 so I may just pay for yearly AppleCare for a year and wait for M5Pro.

We'll see what M4 has to offer but I have zero issues with my MBP now.
