This is a bit frustrating. I just ordered a sweet Macbook Air and want to get a desktop as well but don't know if I should pull the trigger now. It seems like a Retina iMac is a ways off, but if there will be a marginal CPU improvement soon-ish, I might as well wait for that anyway.

new iMacs not coming

They just announced some days ago that the new broadwell chips are not coming before 2015. That means that new iMacs aren't coming either, right? Probably this is the reason they released only a low-cost iMac. There is simply no new hardware to work with.

If new iMacs are coming in a few month (late 2014), what would they include?

are there better graphic cards than the GeForce GTX 780M 4 GB GDDR5?
they could go up from 3.5 to 3.6Ghz?
they could include retina display but of the cost of what? lower horspower? much higher price?

My guess is that the new iMacs will be announced at the October event with only a few shipping at the end of December, full production in January/February. If a retina iMac is announced it will be limited production (and expensive).

Mmm.

I really was kind of drooling over the iMac 27'' yesterday. I just hate how I have to get a special order since at this point I won't use spinny HDD.

I want to test the limits of Apple's price matching as Best Buy's price for the base 27'' is at least $50+ less than Apple's (1749.99 ATM), and then I have a $150 off a Mac coupon (student promo) from Best Buy. I want to see if I can get the Apple for Education discount (1699) + coupon (-150). And then ask to add the SSD on top of the discounted base. I'm not feeling lucky but we'll see.
