I don't think Apple is going to hold a special event for Retina iMacs. Sorry. Now they may wait to release them in the fall.

Yeah half of that was my point. They would want to hold a special event for it but they would have announced it by now if the retina iMac were launching this week. So it's most likely not coming this week and being pushed back to who knows when. They still have to figure out how to get that kind of resolution through thunderbolt. Might just use 2 thunderbolt buses for the screen. Or wait until thunderbolt 3.

This thread is NOT about retina iMacs, that is another thread. This thread is just about a minor spec bump.

Actually, it's about a possible upgraded/cheaper iMac to be released/announced towards the end of this week. Until it happens we don't know if it is just a minor spec bump. IF it happens then it could be a whole raft of possibilities. Granted, a slight speed bump is the most likely with the possibility of a new GPU. Price cut wouldn't go amiss either.

Anyway, as I'm in the market to replace an old MacBookPro, I'll sit and wait until the end of the week before ordering. Just in case.

No, if you read the first post it does not mention the rumored cheaper iMac. I suspect that will be announced, or silently appear, with the at the October event.

Incorrect.

Apple is planning to update its iMac line next week with faster processors and lower prices, according to a new report from MacGeneration (Google Translate).
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted last year and earlier this year that Apple would be launching a lower-cost iMac in the near future to address growth in foreign markets.
Also, the first post mentions possible Retina iMacs in the future, making that a valid topic of discussion in this thread.

Meanwhile, recent evidence in the OS X Yosemite developer preview has also indicated that Apple is gearing up to launch Retina Display-equipped iMacs in the near future. It is possible that Apple may then initially move to split the iMac lineup, selling the Retina models at higher price points alongside cheaper non-Retina models.
And finally, the MacGeneration report says (assuming Google Translate is accurate here):

We do not have details, therefore we can only bet on using a little faster processors.

Thus, Beardy man is 100% correct.

Much as I would like to see an updated Mac Mini, somehow I expect nothing on that front until the A8 chip comes out, with the Mini being the test machine for that.

There is so much new on the technological horizon right now, and Apple isn't part of it. I came back to this thread to see if there were any updates, and am now disappointed I didn't get a MINOR spec bump.

Apple, where art thou Thunderbolt Display 4K 28"? 4k 28" iMac and Retina Macbook Air? Current-gen Intel Mac mini?

Honestly, I'd love to have my workstations be: 28" 4k iMac + 28" 4k Thunderbolt Display (both in the same height/form factor, they aren't currently). With the iMac powered by a discrete video card and possibly even a workstation class processor. I think a lot of people with love the dual 28" iMac/TB Display in the workplace/office. But realistically, it may never happen.

Actually there is a rumour that will arrive later this year a 5K iMac pro, in black unibody and 27-28" in size with only SSD and maybe dual discret GPU and no IGP. curret models updatd with slight lower prices will be the poors iMac, and the Pro in Black as the High End model. Same Would occur to Macbook, Air model in silver w/o Air moniker, and Pro models in Black, some specifications upgraded too.

That wasn't so much a rumor as it was random speculation. The "5K" figure was based on the assumption of pixel doubling over the current resolution, which seems less likely unless someone like LG is doing it anyway. Custom panel fabrication at that size would result in something too costly to use in an imac.

All signs point to October..........

Tuesday already and nothing new yet… as for the retina mac, it's 99,9% sure that it won't be announced this week, this was just about the minor spec bump, the lowered price by 100€ and hopefully Thunderbolt 2.

The site who originally came up with this also posted an update, saying that some people ordered some iMacs some times ago, and the delivery time, which was originally the 12th of June, has been delayed to the 18th of June. That's tomorrow. May we see new iMacs tomorrow? Just imagine :D

Same comment read here when the retina Macbook Pro Rumour began...

That may be true. Apple is usually a bit more conservative with the Macs, although I don't know how much of a custom panel that is. When it comes to the imacs, they're generally very conservative. Just changing to a laminated panel led to further price drift, presumably to maintain a specific range on margins. Using a custom resolution at that size would presumably be much more costly, although it could come down. You also seem to ignore the point I was making. 4K is a standard resolution. You could implement that as doubled pixels on a 27", assuming they stick with that size. The suggestion of 5K means maintaining an identical scale and doubling from what they currently use. What they currently use is their implementation of a completely generic panel. What is being proposed is presumably something completely custom, as it's not such a common resolution.
