I can understand the temptation to put ads on maps, but it is totally the wrong app for ads. If you are out driving and need to check directions in a hurry, waiting 30 seconds for some inane ad to finish is going piss off a lot of people. Plus people don't spend that much time on the ap. Apps like News is a better choice, people spend a lot more time reading the news. CNN makes you watch a network ad before watching videos. Now they have added a subscription fee. Plus, I make it point to NEVER buy any product that I am forced watch. My mute button on the remote is badly worn, if I don't want watch as well. I switch to the cable guide.
That approach would be a very bad move to Apple. Their ads will need to be non-intrusive, specially when connected with CarPlay. Popup ads would turn the iPhone into a Samsung Phone. That will be the day when I will HomeBrew my own version of whatever works.

My LG Fridge and other appliances connect to the internet for software updates, notifications and enhanced functionality.
For example, our GE Range with dual ovens received a software update a year after we bought it, that added the Air Fryer ability.

Interesting though I like my appliances to come with all features working the day they are installed..

We can also program the ovens with timers and temperature changes, etc.

That could be helpful...

As long as the ovens work well as ovens. A family member recently bought a fancy mid-range oven like this (I reserve the high-end designation for things like Viking, Wolf, etc) and it's nice except for the actual oven part. Temperatures are all over the place but usually off by 20-30 deg F. I measured with a tested thermometer after things kept ending up undercooked relative to what I would get from my 20 year old stove...

LG Studio Washer and Dryer Tower can also be configured from the app from anywhere in the world. It notifies when the cycles completed, and even allows to do a quick wrinkle removal before we get home.

I have to say I've never felt the need to initiate laundry from another country. Also not sure how the clothes are getting into the washer if I am not there to load them. Then I like to inspect them before they go into the dryer...

The Range was not advertised to be an Air Frier, and didn't have that option. The Software update made it possible.

The App automates certain oven functions, specially when you need to wait for the dough to grow before baking.

You can use the app to start the dryer to remove wrinkles, so y the time you get home, all you need to do is take the clothes out and put them in hangers.
Also, it alerts you when the cycles complete, so you don't need to be constantly checking for it.

All these features save us time.

Hi Apple, can we have Lookaround outside a few key global cities, you know the stuff that you have been mapping for 10 years now? The thing that keeps people using Google maps?

Apple: No, how about adverts?
