But good job on the keychain complaint. I hope many more folks conplain about that.

Keychain sync was nice but it had a bad habit of corrupting occasionally. (Preferences sync corrupted within a couple days.) 1Password picks up most of the slack, though. But if they fix the corruption problem then I'd like it back.

As far as iDisk, I'll wait and see how well the document sync service works. It could mostly replace the need for iDisk.

The photo gallery was nice and will be missed (although it always felt like a tech demo and not a part of MobileMe).

well... give me iDisk and a little webspace!

.... and PLEASE make sure iCal and AddressBook are CalDAV and CardDAV compliant!!! so one can use them with other devices and Software too!

It's actually the best service of its kind, especially its integration with iOS, where iDisk shines in particular.

I'd rather trust Apple with my dollar (which makes them accountable for the service) than trust a free service, much less one run by Google. Google is accountable to no one.

So is this the Apple you know or don't know. If they cave to people (like you claim FCP/FCPX and giving to Charity) - isn't this just one more way they are disappointing you?

because they like the service?

That can't be right... it must be something more sinister like Apple employing mind control </sarcasm>

I agree with losing MobileMe Gallery, Photo Stream is nice both would be great.

I think you'll find he's too busy donating his time and enormous amounts of money via the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to the 3rd World. Funnily enough don't see Steve or anyone else in Apple doing so....

There are two kinds of philanthropists:, those that give from the heart and those that give for the publicity. You only know of the ones that give for the publicity. (see Mathew 6)

I think we'll see some of these services return later on, a year or so from now. They want to be a bit more sure when it comes to iCloud, they want to approach it in typical Apple way.

You know, focus on a few key features and functionality and make sure that is right, instead of trying to do too many things at once. You know, especially after the mess that was the MobileMe launch.

I like what you say, Qwaf. Apple seems to set the standard for stability, which is why they're careful and slow about releasing new features to any of their products. Many of us have left the PC world and have adoped the Apple one for just that reason. (Spent way too many nights trying to find kludge fixes for PC and server problems at my workplace. Nice to see a company doing things correctly.)

I'm not looking forward to losing a few features of MobileMe but will put up with it, with the knowledge that they may come back better than ever.

I use iDisk and note sync heavily, and the loss of those features would affect how I use my mac environment.

I would happily email someone about this - where do I find relevant email addresses?

Email Tim Cook

If you like your iDisk, like I do, and other sync services, then email Tim Cook, tcook@apple.com , and let him know. The more feedback they get, the more likely it is that they'll add these services onto iCloud down the road.

iDisk

I'm a big iDisk user. I'm able to access my stuff from any computer anywhere in the world, and able to share stuff with anyone I want. Loosing iDisk was my only concern when Steve made his iCloud presentation. Life would be very complicated without it.

I simply want a better iDisk. I use my iDisk and Filechute all of time so my students can download the weeks handouts and sample files. My web hosting company does not support Filechute.

I'd like to see iDisk be as reliable as Dropbox.

+1

Where do we e-mail them? I would love to see iDisk, Keychain Sync, and Preference Sync stay.

Yep. MobileMe fan here, too -- been using it since it was .mac and you'll have to pry my @mac.com e-mail address from my cold, dead hands.

iDisk is invaluable to me for being able to send a download link of a PDF to a client and control the access, password protect it and, most importantly, keep it around for as long as I want. I use Dropbox, too, but I don't like it as much.

Cheers

I've tried DropBox, and it is easy and fast. But my main complaint is that when you share a folder, all the users can modify stuff - including deleting files. And when I obtain access to another users dropbox folders, it counts against my quota.

iDisk has none of these issues, though it is slower. Ideally, I'd like to see iDisk have a dropbox like interface, but with proper access control and quota sharing.

I (we) use MobileMe and iDisk all the time

I'd miss the galleries for sure, and as my son'e hockey team manager, it's a nice sport to organize and share photos to controlled groups. I also will miss the iDisk, and with my daughter going to college, I don't need (or want) all her papers shared to all our computers that share the same ITunes library, so allowing her to use iDisk would allow back-up, but not burden all the computers.

iDisk!!!! and Photo Gallery

How about, Address Book, Calendars, Photo Gallery? True, you can find most services free, but Apple offered everything under one roof and integrated into their devices. Best of all, ad free!

Exactly!!! Multiple devices with account sharing info leaves no other option without major headaches and hoop jumping. No it's not prefect, far from it -- especially iDisk, but the other services have worked flawlessly. Certainly hopping iCloud will make it even better.

MobileMe Gallery FTW !

I don't care for iDisk all that much (slow), but I know others do. And I do admit that it has come in handy on several occasions.

However, the MobileMe feature I use on almost a weekly basis (sometimes more) is the Gallery. Gallery is the easiest way to share photos and movies with family and friends, and it's well worth the $99 a year I pay.

Now, I know they're going to have some photo-syncing thing, but I prefer to have the Gallery, where I can place edited photos up. I don't really care about sharing raw iPhone pics.

Dammit Tim! Stay FOCUSED!!!

Seriously... I'm gone for a couple weeks and Tim has already thrown away my zen-like focus.

Well, if iCal sharing is any indication, Apple just might do it wrong. iCal used to be able to provide web based read only access to select iCalendars to ANYONE on any platform. Very convenient.

Now iCal sharing (subscriptions) require the sharee to be a mobileme user, and sharing means that I have to see the shared calendar on my iCal application. And if the owner has specified notifications (email, pop ups, whatever), I get all of those, too. What pain! I just want to have access to my spouses calendar and she needs access to mine. So I get a billion "reminders" for her stuff. And I can't share my appointments calendar with colleagues in office environments where the use PC's and various Microsoft services.

And they never fixed it.

My top wish list item is snow leopard support (Mail contacts and calenders)

then idisk I dont even care its its a measly 5gb just let us have idisk on iCloud
