iWeb!!!!!!!!!

How about giving us iWeb back .... Jobs may not have liked it but I can name several who do!!!!!

Hopefully the arrival of Cook will reverse some of the bad decisions Jobs made (yes, he did actually have some bad ideas!!!!!) (Mac Mini!!!!!)

I agree that Cook's PR strategy is still an open question. Still, it's nice to see that corporate philosophies are not static, and still depend a great deal on leadership. Apple may be seen as a monolith, but the CEO sets the tone. Maybe I should write in with my suggestions for improving iTunes. ;) Overall I think Apple has always reacted to an appropriate amount of feedback about their products. Anytime I have an issue I fill out their customer feedback forms. You never know if yours might be the tipping point for them to revisit something.

"LOOK AT THIS $100 I'M GIVING TO THIS HOMELESS GUY OVER HERE ON THE CORNER OF SMITH & 9th!", then it's likely your intent was less than charitable. Not always, but often.

All acts of generosity are selfish (or rather, not selfless) to a degree. Even if it just makes you feel warm and fuzzy enough to do it again. That doesn't necessarily redefine selfish into a good word, it just shows that we can also help ourselves by helping others.

/me avoids philosophical language like "utility" because I just woke up...

Uh, what?
I have helped at least 6 other people switch to Mac minis, including my mum. It is exactly the right computer for the people it's right for.

I'd be particularly interested to find out if there are any plans for iCloud's synced files to have options for making them publicly accessible, because that could easily be a first step toward restoring Mobile Me's galleries and iWeb syncing.

??
iCal has been CalDAV since Leopard, and Address Book syncs via CardDAV since (iirc) Snow Leopard. Those are, in fact, the protocols used to sync with their respective components in OS X Server.

... Oh, unless you mean: you hope that the iCloud servers allow you to sync your calendar and contacts data with non-Apple, non-iCloud software, using those sync protocols? That's a good question. Somehow I'm not optimistic.

OF COURSE I mean that. If truly CalDAV compliant, they'd let me use iCloud with my iPhone, Mac (iCal) and at work (Windows & Thunderbird). Currently this doesn't work anymore which sucks!

I am all for iDisk being resurrected! I use that a LOT with video clients. iCloud will keep my personal stuff in sync across devices but that doesn't help me send big files to clients. I know there are 3rd partied but a 1st party built in solution is my preference.

#1 thing I want for iCloud though... MOVIES SYNC/STREAMING W/ SCAN & MATCH! I know Hollywood is the hurdle there. Makes me mad that they are so stupid!

gmail is free
personal websites are 1990's
file sync is done better and cheaper by the competition

what is the draw?

LOL @ all the downvotes.

Seems like you got everyone mad that they're paying $99/yr for nothing.

MobileMe gallery will be missed. I know many people who use MobileMe and apart from the iCal and Address Book sync, the Gallery is the most used feature.
Photo Stream is nice for having your newly made pics available on your big screen Mac without the need to sync via USB. But there is no replacement out there that handles online sharing of your favourite pics better than MobileMe Gallery.

agreed. Please keep Gallery alive !

Let's all complain about iDisk, and how we'd like to see more Dropbox-like support. Maybe we'll see it soon!

Who else agrees?

You watch too much friends

Also, why is there a group of people having a p**sing match about who gives more to charity? who cares? its not for us to say "you have loads of money so you better start giving it to charity"

Looks to me like this guy is making up the phone call to convince others to email Apple on his pet issue...

One more vote for iWeb here! I am an IT professional, but I don't have time to do elaborate websites anymore. I loved iWeb... drag, drop, and publish. You're done.

Of course it wasn't perfect, but it was pretty good. I'd really like to see support for it to be continued.

And seperately, but similarly... Web galleries were excellent. The sensible security controls, and the easy access for other people to upload their content and have it fall under the same policy was nice.

I always renewed via Amazon... it was only $79 on there.

"syncing application preferences, keychain, etc."

Yeah those would be nice to have back in the ICLOUD product.

Tim Cook's staff phoned me yesterday as well. True.

But in regards to serious technical problems, not future Cloud features.

Ever since installing Lion (6 weeks+), I've had terrible problems with Lion on a 2008 iMac :(, and while emailing the latest capture data file to my senior Applecare adviser to pass on to engineering, I cc'd Tim Cook out of desperation-- I'm at a virtual standstill productivity-wise. And yesterday, to my great surprise, someone from his staff phoned me to say they were taking over the lead on my case. :)

I was blown away that they would even bother, but ever since Lion bit my iMac I really have been in an infinite loop of hell. Even if I don't resolve the issue, it certainly made me feel better taken care of. I guess I'll hang in there a bit longer before considering a downgrade to Snow Leopard.

Are those features actually lacking? It seemed to me that it was just going to be done in a different way, i.e - once iCloud is available, Apple apps will start receiving updates that can take advantage of the iCloud API's. So syncing would be on a per-app basis, which makes more sense than the service trying to make the right decision.

Yeh, first we'll remove iDisk and delete all your files, then (this is the clever bit) we'll reinstate the service to show that we really listen.

Petition!

If they're open, let's start getting the voice out there: http://www.change.org/petitions/apple-inc-keep-mobileme-sync-services-photo-gallery-idisk-in-icloud

You may personally not like a particular service like iDisk but that doesn't mean they should just "kill it" because there are a lot of people, myself included, that feel it works better than any available service by competitors. And I might add "kill it" was exactly what some people said about the Mac not too long ago. Just a thought. Let's not kill something that has great potential, let's help make it better.

If you support any of these services being added to iCould, sign the petition!

iDisk!!!! and Photo Gallery

How about, Address Book, Calendars, Photo Gallery? True, you can find most services free, but Apple offered everything under one roof and integrated into their devices. Best of all, ad free!

Agree. Apple please bring back galleries and iweb web sites. I have so much stuff on those, and it will be a lot of work to transfer to something else.
Sincerely,
Joshua Margolin

I use iDisk and note sync heavily, and the loss of those features would affect how I use my mac environment.

I would happily email someone about this - where do I find relevant email addresses?

Exactly.

----------

Want to keep:

iDisk
Notes sync (wish this was synced to Stickies.app also)
Keychain sync

Don't need:

Gallery

But isn't Documents and Data in iCloud tantamount to iDisk? I mean, it's not like a virtual disk in the cloud, but you'll have access to all the documents you want handled that way. Then there's DropBox (and others) for broader file-sharing. Apple doesn't really like to provide lesser services when other, better, often free services are available. So I believe that's the thinking behind eliminating iDisk: deliver documents and application data to Macs and iOS devices as MobileMe subscribers are accustomed, let other service like DropBox handle the more purely file-sharing tasks.

if this is true then there should be a concerted effort to make this appeal to Cooks office for whatever features one happens to feel important to save. Frankly I, think Gallery and idisk are things people want to see continue but I would be happy to appeal all the items loss.

Let's see some petitions going, maybe there are some going already if so could someone post?

thanks
