Of the English speaking countries in the world (which are the only relevant ones since we are talking about the English language here):

UK - Football
Ireland - Soccer
Australia - Soccer
New Zealand - Soccer
South Africa - Soccer
Canada - Soccer
USA (bigger population than all the above combined) - Soccer
The difference being, bar the Canadian’s, if you said ‘Football’ to the rest of those nationalities, they would assume you’re talking about ‘soccer’.

At some point in the next 10 years, I can see the Premier league and bigger teams wanting something more like the NFL's model, where they have more of an ownership over the streaming and get to keep ALL of the revenue. For now, hawking out packages to a few streamers and cable TV companies brings in a lot of revenue, but at some point they're going to want the benefit of having a direct relationship with customers.

I doubt they will EVER have 'watch all of purely your team's games for £x but I can certainly see a 'watch everything' package and various bundles. Just think of that lovely regular direct debit / card transaction money going straight to the premier league. And they can market it globally, directly. All the opportunities to upsell. Charging more for certain games and all that. And all wrapped up in a single Premier League app.

A wise move for apple would be to get in early, and become the partner to achieve this.
This maybe a natural trigger considering that Western Europe is forecasted to lose around 7% of pay TV subscriptions by 2027. This is going to put a lot of pressure on the likes of Sky and BT Sports which have overpaid for the Premier League rights since their other services act as a subsidy to the sports package. But I am not sure the Premier League will want to give up control of their content to a third party nor that they have the capability of producing or distributing it. It is much simpler for them just to get paid a single net fee.

I've been to all those countries and my experience is that they all call it 'football' ,and the ball, (they kick with their feet!), is a 'football'. American football is called..."American Football". The sad thing is, (and I no longer follow football with any great interest, (Rugby is, IMHO, a better game)), that I live 2miles from the oldest football ground in the world (Hallam), and, opposite the ground the pub where all the rules for the game were codified, is being demolished.

Assuming you're talking about yourself and you are nobody, the fact is more people want to watch EPL even in your own district than go to squirm at the love parade!
Haha. I know that's what you believe. But only countries without their own football culture care about the Premier League. You can sell your nonsense to South East Asia and North America. 🤪

Fixed that for you ;)

Nah. Just the UK. And mainly just England at that. As far as the other large English-speaking nations:

US - Soccer (which, taken alone makes it the most popular word in the English language for the sport)
Canada - Soccer
South Africa - Soccer
Australia - Soccer
New Zealand - Soccer
Ireland - Soccer

And for fun... Japan - Sacca... Italy - Calcio (which is a verb that means 'kick')

And as far as the UK. Enjoy watching Soccer Saturday. Or support a good cause with Soccer Aid. And be sure to add your World Soccer magazine next to your "loo" for some light reading. Ya know... cuz they never would use that term...

Nah. They’d think you’re talking about Rugby in most of them. Or a yet entirely different football played on a cricket ground.

Isn’t competition law supposed to benefit the consumer? I’m not sure how having to pay for four services is beneficial - and we still can’t watch all games!
Paying for 4 services means you have at least 4 competitors competing for your money. That’s better than having 1.

nobody wants to see the most popular sport in the world? if they didn't apple wouldn't have an interest.
Local football is the most popular sport in the world. People want to see their own national league, not that of England. Not even all of the UK want to see the EPL. The Scots have their own SPL.

Says who? People want to see the best league in the world which is the PL. ratings don’t lie.

Just like every football fan in the world is a fan of Real Madrid. Ratings don't lie! People want to see the best team in the world, not their own team. That's why every sports fan in the world wears the same color shirt. It's space grey.

You don’t really seem to be getting this at all, if people only cared about their local team the PL wouldn’t be getting millions of views each weekend. People love real madrid but how many around the world watch Spanish football? Not anywhere near the amount you will see tuning in watching premier league football. It really isn’t close. Why do you think the amount of money that’s spent by those teams in that league is so high? TV rights and you only get those massive fees due to the interest it’s producing.

Yeah. They're getting millions of views from countries, who's own football culture sucks, because they got late into the game. I bet during World Cups you cheer for the Three Lions, regardless how awful they are.

so now you are making excuses as to why it's the most watched sport in the world by blaming other countries cultures? yeah like your other replies that makes zero sense.

England as a footballing nation aren't awful. They remain one of the best teams in the world who lost a close fought quarter finals to France a team who won 4 years ago and were close to repeating as champions. There are simply a few better teams as it stands.

That said the world cup has zero relevance in this topic. This is about football in general and the PL which has nothing to do with how good England are when it comes to the world cup.

Haha, there are some of Yanks who know the difference and refer to it as Football or Footie. I always found it ironic how most Yanks think playing a sport where 95% of the time use your hands to throw and catch a ball should be called football but a sport where 95% of the time you can only use your feet should be referred to as Soccer.

But then again us Yanks like to call it, the Baseball World Series when they are not playing the world and if they do play the world in a baseball tournament, they generally get beaten by the Latin American teams, specifically, teams from the Dominican Republic. Yes Americans can be silly at times but we do excel in eating, while watching sports.

I don't think it's always that simple though. For example, here OP loves watching football, but doesn't like the way broadcast rights are managed. So how does he boycott that? Stop watching football? It seems like he'd lose out big time there whilst the 'boycotted' wouldn't even notice.

Thats the power of negotiations . Who is going to give in first? the people or the broadcasters? If enough people boycott I guarantee a price drop. If people pay the price, then it is what it is, pay for 4 channels to watch football.

To you. 😁

Still awful, even after losing to France. You can’t see it, because you’re English.

Dude, the World Cup is literally the most watched sports event in the world, much bigger than club football. And now you’re telling me it’s irrelevant? What do you think makes football a global sport, if not international championships! In which England always fails.

Lets breakdown the Daily Mail for people who live outside of the UK: Take the worst of the New York Post, mix it with a little made-up story from TMZ, get Alex Jones to rewrite it, then present it in a Fox News style like its 100% true. The article itself doesnt matter because all the content will be put in the title (no one who reads this paper can cope with reading more than 200 words). If you're able to take a swipe at a minority group thats bonus; the Daily Mail, its slightly less terrible than the people who read it.
