Apple Reportedly Planning to Wind Down 'iPhone Upgrade Program'

After launching a new "Apple Upgrade" program next week, Apple plans to stop accepting new iPhone Upgrade Program sign-ups, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

It remains to be seen if existing iPhone Upgrade Program members will be able to remain enrolled in the program beyond their current terms, or if they will be migrated to the Apple Upgrade program at some point. One key difference, according to the report: Apple Upgrade will not bundle in AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss coverage, which should result in a lower monthly payment. AppleCare+ will remain available separately, with upfront, annual, and monthly payment options.

As long as there’s have the option to choose AppleCare + it might work.

Guess they’re trying to push us into the multiple device Apple One.

So the new lease program doesn’t have a 12 month option? I can’t imagine Apple would remove the ability for people to easily upgrade a phone every year.

Customers will be able to pay off the device early during the term, upgrade early to a newer device, or keep or return the existing device after the term.

Pay off the rest of the payments all at once and jump on a new set of payments for a new phone at the new MSRP.

Sort of makes one wonder why that user didn't just buy a phone outright to begin with, perhaps on a sale or carrier promotion (or preowned).

We don't know if that's how it will work... that's the RUMOR... I would be shocked if its not similar to the current IUP

It's sort of funny to me that one is "cost conscious", thus using an MVNO, but also wants "the newest device" and willing to pay overpriced MSRP for it.

This is a very interesting hypothetical consumer we have here.

Not really a hypothetical as there are plenty of us. I'm using my $49.95 a month 17 Pro Max financed on my Apple Card at 0% for 24 months on my $32.50/mo (paid annually) US Mobile plan with a second line on another network for $10 a month.

Why? I like the freedom to hop between all three networks and I'm still paying less than I would for postpaid while having two networks in my pocket. I also happen to like having the latest tech and while I'm frugal in most areas of my life, I am willing to pay for my tech.

MVNO carrier: Visible is not on the list when selecting Apple Card payment option

Can someone tell me how I can buy the iPhone with a trade in and use Apple Card to finance it for 24 months at 0% without having to choose one of the major carriers ? I use MVNO Visible....

These types of corporate actions are seldom to the benefit of users. I keep my electronics too long to ever do an upgrade; all I care about is that AppleCare is available should I want it.

Apple understands it’s difficult, if not impossible, for most people locked into their ecosystem to leave. People are firmly locked in and now at the mercy of Apple whose corporate responsibility is to increase profits for its shareholders.
