This is available now through NFL Game pass -- only difference is you have to wait until the game is over to start the stream.
"Only" doing a lot of work here, haha. The difference between live and recorded sports, for many folks, is a dealbreaker. Game Pass is a nice option for some, but it's nowhere near what most of us want: Access to live, out of market games. (We're willing to pay for it, just give us the option!) I really hope whoever get the rights makes this available, but the NFL is so fan-hostile that I'm not optimistic.

People may laugh now, but the XFL has that kind of potential. Its last season was a lot of fun to watch, the game was faster and easier for novices to get into. It was only cut short by the pandemic with unfortunate timing. I'd love to see Apple nurture MLS and XFL and prove itself. MLB has kind of contracted from its high popularity decades ago and seems to be open to Apple's ideas. That'd be a good trio of sports. Maybe College basketball next?
XFL has completely folded. The NFL had its own spring league last year (a rebranded USFL) and will be doing it again this year.

Whether it’s the XFL or USFL or something else, I wonder if there’s just not enough air for them, the NFL and the NCAA. That’s a lot of football, saying nothing of all the other sports

Watch out for news soon. The Wall Street Journal and Apple insider reports today that the deal has been agreed to move Sunday Ticket to YouTube. The reported agreement could be signed as soon as today.

The rumor is YouTube TV. There is a difference.

I actually would not mind this if we can get a decent set of features like recording games, being able to skip commercials, pause/play, FF/RWD. I can’t do anything of these things with the present Sunday Ticket app.

It makes zero sense, I agree. Also I don't see why the NFL would realistically care if Apple did want to do that. NFL gets their billions regardless, it'd be Apple taking a massive loss with this strategy. I don't believe the reason being mentioned, about it somehow harming their partners. Whole thing doesn't add up.
It makes perfect sense. Knowing something about this business from experience, let me assure you it all adds it perfectly.

The NFL has contracts with other broadcasters who sell ads in order to pay billions in fees to the NFL. If Apple includes the NFL package-all games, no restrictions - in the Apple TV+ package, many viewers will leave other broadcasters for Apple package. Less viewers means less ad revenue which makes it harder for existing partners to pay their billions in fees on already agreed upon contracts that are in force. You can bet the NFL is not going to screw CBS, FOX, ESPN, AMAZON and any other existing partner to benefit Apple when those partners are performing accordin to the contract. The NFL's longter interests are not served by screwing over their current partners.

Hmm.. maybe you should update your news. The XFL just announced their team jerseys with partner Under Armour a couple weeks ago:

The new XFL Season begins in February, the week after the Super Bowl. Very smart not to compete head up with the NFL and give football fans more to watch after the season is over.

Which is fine for tv shows, not really as good for sports
Yeah, knowing the final score takes 99% out of the fun of watching it. I watch my team live every chance I get, but if I miss a game for some reason, I usually don't watch it in replay.

Theres 8 billion people in the world and only a fraction of it bastardizes the name while calling another sport barely played with feet 'football'. Yah, beaten to death argument, but that's not the point... the issue is larger than that. It's as infuriating as Americas reluctance to get with the rest of the world using the metric system.
Who says we don't use the metric system? We use both.

Global interest for NFL is very, very low.
This story doesn't make sense to me. By making the service available to anyone that wants it (Something DTV never did), more people will sign up and there will be more money on the table. I could be wrong, but I think YT and YTTV are going to see some big subscription numbers once the new season starts and people realize they can get this service. I'm not happy about the assumed $300 price point but once Apple stepped away from the bidding I knew the pricing would not change.

Wonder when they’ll announce the so called “stand alone” pricing if one will even exist?

Im guessing $300-400 and they can shove that. It’s worth about $100 for the whole season.

Last year my local AMC was showing NFL games live. I think a ticket cost $12. I only care to watch the team I follow. The most I would pay for Sunday ticket is $100. If NFL wants to be greedy and charge $300+, forget about it. There are alternative means to watch the game online.

The latest rumor is that the new Google TV NFL Ticket will indeed cost $300. I'm not surprised. There's also a rumor that we may be able to just pay for one team. I'm really hoping that happens.

Welp. They can kiss my ass. Not paying that because it’s just way overpriced.

No blood.
