No big deal for APPLE to take advantage the "purchasing power" from all sources.

Obviously, Apple can't live without TSMC chip, I don't think Apple will be gladly to go back Intel.

I thought Apple owned a percentage of TSMC??? Maybe that gives them some say in the matter. If not, maybe it is time for Apple buy them out.
With the situation between Taiwan and China, that might not be smart. No one knows if Taiwan will be a country in two years. Apple may have no choice but to find other sources, even if they have to build those sources themselves.

But Apple is ok with price hikes for their own consumers.

Of course. You might not be aware that Apple suppliers increase their prices to Apple, and Apple employees need/deserve raises and benefits increases. As that raises COGS, Apple raises prices to consumers.

And...if you don't like Apple prices, simply vote with your wallet and find better value with an Apple competitor. Easy.

Was trying to think of how Apple could say no to these guys - maybe this is an invitation to negotiation. They could probably change production of older chips (at larger nm sizes) to say Samsung (I think they're the ones closest to TMSC tech wise...poor Intel there)...but they're always behind by a couple of nm in size.

Course if TMSC is asking for 6% that's not an outrageous amount either. Probably will meet in the middle someplace. Can't see Tim actually saying we won't improve chip die size going forward...lol

True, although Apple held pricing on the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro's the same as the 13's and the 12's I believe. At least here in the U.S. where its prices are based on the U.S. dollar. And some of the new Mac's actually went down in price with the swtchover to Apple's chips. So seems like Apple is keeping those throttled back for the most part.

Now the dollar has been strengthening (as interest rates were raised here) and some currencies like the Pound have nose dived over that time period resulting in significant price increases in different countries just to keep the same relative dollar price, not to mention some countries have significant tech taxes.

Even if China rules Taiwan in 2 years, why does it matter to Apple? You think China is going to force TSMC to not make any chips for Apple?

Apple already sources nearly everything from China. Even Apple's Japanese/Korean/European suppliers manufacture most of their products in China.

China can stop Apple's entire operation today if they wanted to.

In my opinion TSMC hold the upper hand here because I am sure there are many other electronic device manufacturers who would love to use TSMC as their chip supplier but cannot because of Apple. If Apple was out of the picture other device manufacturers would jump in for sure and I believe TSMC know this.

Of course it would be hard to lose their business but i do not feel if Apple was to go it would be the end of TSMC.

TSMC has said that they will destroy their factories in the event of an invasion. It would not be hard to do and it would only take minutes.

TSCM should hold out. Apple can find another supplier if they are unhappy.

Why doesn't Apple just buy them then.
maybe they don’t want to sell?

If Apple buy every company suggested on this forum, Apple would be some overweight, organizationwith excessive business interests.

Stop spreading fake news. Check your facts. This was suggested by two random American "academics". TSMC has never said this.

Something tells me that they will eventually come to an agreement, I really can't see who they can go to and make the chips they currently have and will make in the future.

I have been surprised that Apple doesn't just buy them out. Having their own fab would simplify some things and also have the added benefit of more security.

They have more money than anyone else, Mr Apple: Buy TSMC!

I'm sure BDO/Marcum will come up with a lot of tax shenanigans that would make it very profitable...

Well, if and once China attack Taiwan the rest of world will counter attack, then we have a third world war anyway.
