That is why I am now on the 12 Pro Max. Just wait, on the night of your 40th birthday you can read just fine, you wake up a week or two later ... and now you need reading glasses :)
I just turned 50 a few weeks ago and no reading glasses yet. Everything else is good too so far. ;)

Except that Apple sells phones year round. After the excitement of the launch dies down, people just replace phones for boring reasons like; I got a new job and phone, I'm on a work plan that has upgrades every 24-36 months, people get the as gifts for graduations .. anniversaries. That doesn't all happen around Sept 30th. Those "boring" sales can have a lot of non pro phones and amount to hundreds of billions of dollars in sales.

Except this article is about initial demand. It makes zero sense to have production lines sitting idle while the pro iPhones are sold out. What you have mentioned is irrelevant for what the current demand is.

Glad I bought my new phone just before this year’s “update”. I just want a phone smaller than the tablets Moses brought from Mount Sinai, but I guess I’m in a small enough minority that Apple no longer feels obligated to cater to me.

Next year they won’t, if the rumors from Koh are correct all models will have USB C, and the non Pro iPhones will all get dynamic island and the same Apple chip as this years Pro models. And of course he much lighter in weight. Hmm it does seem like next yeaes standard iPhone may be worth waiting for instead? Not least for USB C.

Too much choice creates confusion and lack of focus. Steve Jobs knew this. The regular iPhone model being neglected and held back is evidence of this.

Yeap that’s why the iPhone was good, you had a simple choice, cheap and small, standard bigger one then the biggest one. We didn’t have this two tier lineup which is what every other manufacture dies, Cook has effectively just copied the market now as opposed to jobs who did something different, but then again Jobs had a lower price point due to the simple range, Cook has increased that somewhat and as I understand will further increase the feature disparity between the Pro and non pro models, all to try and get people to up sell to the Pro model, more money for Apple.

Is was seriously considering the iPhone 14 Pro this year, but it is now over that £1000 threshold, not sure I can stomach that on a phone. I may wait for next years standard iPhone 15 as it will have to have USB C, probably has this years Apple chip 16 and the dynamic island. Plus be lighter then the Pro model too.

This is why there should only be one iPhone, just like the old days. Every phone they put out should be a "pro". Just make three sizes, mini, regular, plus.
Of course, but that way Apple couldn't extort their customers with Pro Max Ultra models, that Apple feels they can justify for charging exuberant prices.

Not everyone needs reading glasses at the same age, but nonetheless, presbyopia starts becoming an issue in the 40s and 50s and gets worse until the 60s. If you don't need it now, you may need it in 5 years. And it's a gradual process so you may not necessarily notice you have it initially.

That's one reason I'm on a 12 Pro Max. The bigger screen is quite helpful, and I run zoomed display mode. Basically, I'm running the resolution of an iPhone 12 Pro but in iPhone 12 Pro Max size so everything is bigger. I have corrective glasses that allows me to read it with regular font sizing but it's still more pleasant and less tiring to read it with bigger text.

I don't manually like increasing font sizing etc. on a regular iPhone 12 Pro because it's not consistent and there's not enough space on-screen.

Cannot believe that there are not many takers for the 14 Plus model.
It's going to be popular overall this year. However, it's not even available yet, and the non-Pro buyers on average are less concerned about getting their phones immediately after launch than the Pro buyers are.

The iPhone SE 3 did make the list though in 7th place, so there is a sizeable niche market for smaller iphones. The Samsung A53 5G is cheaper than the SE, and has a much larger screen with more cameras etc, but the SE still sold more units.

I don't think anyone considers the iPhone SE a "small" phone.

Of course the regular 14 is a failure, it's a rebadged 13 Pro mostly and the 14 Pros only cost a fraction more than the regular 14s. What a waste of bloody resources the 14s are. Just keep the pros and scrap the non pros.

See... when I saw the event live, I thought to myself the introduction of the dynamic island was the focal point in terms of feature. But when the 14 without it was mentioned, I already thought this was gonna be bad news. I think they should have just made 3 models: entry, medium and advanced specs, but all 3 should feature the island because its the heart and soul of the new iOS/phone. I think the lower priced models are made to please the Asian markets, but then taking the most popular color out of that product line is once again another mistake. Making color depend option is deliberately screwing with customer options/choices and that's just stupid. Just like some cars only offer black leather in combination with other certain wood trims on the dashboard.
Colour options have always changed since the iPhone 7. I think we’re all used to it by now, also DBrand and cases helps resolve that quite well.

Regarding your take on “Asian” markets - bad grouping. While India May favour cheaper models due to their economy and typical medium income (currently which will change in a few short years) China, Japan seems to be purchasing the Pro models especially the Mac models.

Honestly I feel Apple’s sales product manager should be kicked out.

1 no advertising for the 12/13 mini effectively killed any potential ongoing sales past 2 generations.

2 iPhone 14/14 Plus, the latter almost a full month delay. Can’t wait for that also to be cut in production.

I feel this release and last years was heavily affected by sales department and not by the engineering department. I’ll enjoy my 14 Pro and happy I skipped last years 13 Pro and 13 mini as those seems to be even less iterative.

I think majority of the people are into Pro models now. Apple should consider moving the regular iPhone line up during Spring event.

I think the regular model release should stay in September or October latest. Just in time for subscriber deals when new carrier plans typically release and back to school deals by Apple and carriers alike.

Release the Pros in spring. Most users that can afford Pro models at retail or HUP or Apple yearly upgrade can afford to wait.

This strategy I think will work incredibly in 2023 regular iPhones and 2024 spring Pro models of a very significant camera and all around iPhone change and OS design change occurs!

Imagine 11/12 users who’s AC+ expired and hanging on to something really amazing to be released to really shout atop hill tops

“SU&TM$!”
Shut up and take my 💰! Lol.
