That would be wild for Apple standards. But writing has been on the wall since initial reviews. Now what do you replace this with when you have little time to act but want to improve on quality? Off-the-shelf vegan leather?

Anyone who's bought a Bible recently will have observed that some of the new premium fake leathers like Thomas Nelson's "Leathersoft" are virtually indistinguishable from the real thing and just as hard wearing. That's surely the answer.

it may be some time before the company's existing stock inventory begins to noticeably deplete.
Didn't stop an early Apple from sending $27 million in new Lisas to the landfill (which was a remarkable product, just too ridiculously expensive).

If production of FineWoven has stopped, Apple needs to quietly and quickly remove it from sale regardless of stock. Better to take the lumps, than try selling every unit of something you know is # because profits.

Should’ve just used regular vegan fabric / faux leather instead. No reason to wear our tools in murdered organisms, we as a species are already far ahead of Stone Age. Or at least I hope so.

The counterpoint to this is that the particular animals in question will be "murdered" anyway for (mostly human) food. Use the byproduct- their hides- for something or just waste them by letting them rot? Else, we could ALL get fully on that train and go vegan and then have to "murder" lots of the animals to reduce their population because there would be far too many if we stopped eating them.

I'm quite confident that there are no "murders" solely to make iPhone cases, wasting the rest of the animal. We're not talking the ivory trade here.

Still don't get it why people don't just buy a $10 cover from a third party that lasts the entire lifespan of the phone. Is the Apple logo on the back of the case that important?
Alright, my Apple leather case for my 11 Pro started chipping at the bottom. I finally got tired of it looking bad so I bought a new one.

For a phone this old, there wasn't much to choose from. I went with a Peak Design case that was discounted from their current cases. The quality is pretty good, fit and finish good, but I can tell the difference in thought. So the bottom has a pretty big chin that adds to the overall length of it. Apple's is flush with the bottom. There's also an attachment indent on the back. Great if I have attachments, but I don't. But that indent and the bottom are dust collectors. I didn't have this issue with Apple. And nothing against PD. It feels like a great product for those that need it.

Great news! Please bring back the leather.
never gonna happen, as much as I’m with you on this one. after spending all that money on a glorified commercial with Octavia Spencer? lmao, hell no, Apple’s PR team can see from a billion miles away how universally they will be clowned—and the genuine standing a ton of animals rights’ groups will have to call them out on capitalist hypocrisy.

guess I’m just gonna have to hope the case for my 14PM fits my 16PM…or just look into other leather cases. whoever else said it, I don’t care about an Apple logo on the back of my phone. 🤣

I wonder what the thought process was when Apple developed the FineWoven cases.

I refuse to believe they didn’t test for the durability, but I also have a hard time understanding why they would have allowed them to launch knowing the bad press would eventually come.

What do you guys think?

entire lifespan? No matter which cover I buy I have to change it every year just from pretty normal wear and tear from getting it in and out of my jeans and if you're talking about the plastic clear cases you have to change those every year because they get yellow (again no matter the brand).
the apple ones dont, ive been using them for the past 4 years. Only changed cause I changed my phone. The apple clear case is the only durable case apple makes now imo

Leather is a byproduct of the meat industry, and any hides that don't get used are just burned. Why not just use it?

The meat industry isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Vegans are tiny percentage of the population.

Might as well make things as efficient as possible.
