Vision is on life support.

They should focus on making iPadOS more Mac-like, in terms of file management (format disks eject disks), window management (free form window management with more than 4 windows on any given ‘stage’, with the traffic lights 🚥 for window control. Also window snapping like what they just brought to sequoia. Mission Control as well for finding open windows. ), virtualization (run macOS or windows or Linux from iPad).

With the m4 chip, a more capable iPadOS would likely spur more sales at this particular point in time than another vision device. There’s a lot of pent up demand for a more capable iPadOS.

Buy a Mac.

Honestly it makes sense to me. I don't see what they can add to AVP2 in the near future (24 months) that would make it appreciably better than what AVP1 offers. Instead, putting the focus on lowering the price of the technology in general will help increase adoption which in turn will increase application support, helping contribute to a "virtuous cycle" for Apple Vision as a product family.

It's not atypical for dramatic strategical changes to happen like this. The price needs to be dropped fast for adoption to become mainstream. Apple did the same with the iPhone (1st generation) and iPhone 3G.

iPhone (1st generation)'s price was dropped within months. https://www.macrumors.com/2007/09/05/8gb-iphone-price-drop-4gb-iphone-discontinued/

And iPhone 3G started at $199. A lot of upgrades were left out for it to focus dropping the price.
What upgrades were left out that you are referring to?

The future of this is with cheaper prices. Even at $1500 that is expensive, though much easier to stomach then the price of the Vision Pro. Is it still too expensive though when you have the Quest 3 which has great features, good screens and WAY more to do in VR then Apple has. Apple is generally good at recreating a category and making it wanted by the masses. I don't think they have proven that with the Vision Pro yet. The price for the Vision Pro is obscene though for such a limited device.

this product will not last long. they can at least say they accomplished getting it to market, making a very cool and high quality like experience but I just dont foresee this being a heavily consumed product that they can market and offer to everyone (as they try with the rest of their lineup). this is definitely an appliance for those doing specific types of tasks (manufacturing, medical, etc).

The original iPhone was non-subsidized until a few months into it's cycle by AT&T (Cingulair). The iPhone 3g was subsidized at launch, with an off-contract price of $499 or $549, which is the same starting price as the original iPhone.

People rarely paid for their phones outright at the time because on-contract and off-contract bills were the same.

I think in some time we'll see news of Apple scraping the entire Vision product line... Horrible product unless they can make the cheaper model less than $1500
Have you used it? If you dig through my profile, I've called it a meme, laughed about it and was a total non-believer. But then I used it. It's an amazing device and have had the most incredible experiences with technology with it.

I am not surprised. It was clear for a while this was only going to flop. Finally Apple seems to be coming to terms with it. It is too expensive, worse than cheaper alternatives in many ways, it doesn’t solve any real problem or have any real application. It is just a pointless product. Making it cheaper won’t help much unless they solve the other issues too, but I doubt they will. They’ll probably just remove the creepy outward looking display, cheapen out on the inner displays and price it at $999 or $1499 and call it a day. In which case jt will still flop.

There are many concerning problems affecting folks today like high cost of living, jobs, weather related events, and to splurge close to 4k-5k in some countries for something that is not going promote the value of the device in the long term is going to relegate the AVP into the back burner unless cheaper model comes out but even then, it's a long shot. I have the quest 3 and yes i used it and enjoyed it, but i don't use it everyday but i can justify the second hand used price($400) i paid for it. I was looking forward to the AVP but from the US reviews, i'm not interested but would try one in the apple store for fun. Even developers are slow in getting worthwhile apps up there. AI is definitely going to be the driving force for now and see how software will change it.
