I’m just think about how the iPod, iPhone, and iPad were talked about before their release. MP3 players, smartphones, and tablets had been around for years the critics snarled. Apple is late to the game they said. The cell phone market was mature, cutthroat, and low margin and Apple would get killed if they jumped in.

Now smart watches have “been around” for years and we hear the same bleating about how Apple is late to the game, competitors have beaten Apple to the game, Apple can’t possibly compete, etc.

Remember that this is how Apple has always operated. They watch what others are doing. They notice what works and what fails. They never worry about cannibalizing an existing product, something competitors are loath to do. So I do expect something amazing IF they actually do it.

This is the future. Seriously.

Sorry the design on the front page reminds me of the bakelite bracelets that my mom used to wear in the 70's with a screen grafted on. If it looks like that no sale for me.

The iPod evolved into the iPod touch.

The touch evolved into the iPhone and the iPad.

This watch seems like a chance to do something completely new.

I hope we are all here in six months comparing our pulsox, blood sugar level, heart rates, rem sleep cycles and the ambient UV levels.

Instead of bragging about their ridiculously big screen phablets, people will turn good health into the new status symbol.

Omg did you hear about his pulsox level? He is soooo oxygenated!

Oh that's nothing, you should see her heart rate. Dayam.

Maybe they can make games for your health. It's like flappy bird but to move the bird you have to lower your heart rate through deep breathing or mindfulness training. Zen Bird.

I'd love to download an app that shows my recent heartrate in lots of cool graphic ways.

Me, in the middle of meeting with my boss: iWatch signals heart rake spike.

Recharging? Solar. Watch face? Non scratch. Style? Trendsetting. Cost? Only $800.

Wait a minute what!?!?!

I truly doubt they will produce 65 million units until the end of the year. That's fairly optimistic for a new product category.

But we don't want the iWatch. UGH. I think this is one of the most ridiculous things ever! Why don't they work on restoring the horrible iOS 7 icons first.

Smartwatches do not exist. Only as prototypes which show the technology isn't there yet. In their current incarnations so-called smartwatches are nothing but fancy featurewatches. They do not live up to the idea. For smartwatches to become a real thing, there needs to be a processor way smaller and way more power-efficent than even an ARM chip. Two more decades of miniaturization at least. Up until then we will only have wearable peripherals.

y WWDC attendee gets an iWatch as part of the conference swag package.
Would be shocked out the box if that happened. WWDC attendees may get first dibs on the API for a watch, by a week, nobody is getting hardware.

The iPhone came before the iPod touch.

Yup, the iPod evolve to the iPod 5th gen (video)

The iPhone actually evolved from the prototype iPad. It just happened to be the similar in size as the iPod and included the iPod function. The iPhone was more about the miniaturization of the web browser plus touch interface.

Although I'm not really interested in buying the product at this moment in time, my inner fanboy wants Apple to thoroughly embarrass the competition's rushed efforts in this area

Samsung will finally be able to make their Gear usable in the 3rd generation after copying Apple's 1st generation iWatch.

I think that figure is too high as well. We have to look at that it was reported by a Taiwanese Economic Newspaper while most of the suppliers are Taiwanese. So we really need to take it with a grain of salt.

Let's add a lie detector to this list above! :D Would be fun to check all the stats during an interview or before a presentation. One thing is for sure, Apple had better step it up this year. Google is catching up fast. Apple needs this watch and the larger screen "options" for the iPhone. The OS is still very good and is all that is keeping their mobile platforms going IMO.

Hey, finally an "iWatch" design I actually like (referring to the mockups in the post). I wouldn't wear one, but this is the first one I've seen that I think actually looks good... like something people would wear.

Whatever they come up with, it'd better be good. I just noticed the Galaxy Gear on Woot! selling for almost 50% off the $299 list price. And it's not a refurbished unit.

I guess nobody wants a camera watch...

Please don't look like this mock-up but look more like the traditional watch mock-up.
