In your defense, watches have pretty limited functionality right now, however most (but not all) of that functionality would be duplicated by having a smartphone anyways. I am looking forward to see what they come up with (not because I want to wear one).

It's about the smartwatch and smartphone working together to make a better overall solution. You're in a meeting, your iWatch vibrates to let you know that a call is coming in or you have an urgent email or to remind you about your next meeting. My iPhone would be sitting in my jacket pocket so I probably wouldn't hear or feel it and how rude is anyway to keep looking at your phone throughout a meeting. There are lots of applications for an iWatch. It's not a watch, that's what some people don't seem to understand. It's an extension of your iPhone.

The whole iWatch/smart watch idea will be a huge fail. This isn't like the iPhone and iPod. Those replaced useless phones and music players with great and good looking devices. Most people today wear watches because they look good. After all, a watch is jewellery, and the point of jewellery is to look good. Looks come before functionality. People won't throw their nice gold or silver watches that they paid hundreds for and wear a 100$ or 200$ iWatch, which by the looks of it, isn't too pretty. A watch isn't in the same category as a music player, a computer and a phone.

This is a non-starter for me. I wear a WATCH. An automatic self-winding no-batteries WATCH! It's a timepiece. That's all I want from it. I don't want to read my email. I don't want to receive notifications. I don't want to put a battery into a watch. I DAMNED SURE don't want to have to recharge it every day or so.

For every single new product Apple have brought to us, months before people have been bombarding the internet with comments just like this one of yours. "Why do I need it, Why would I buy it" etc etc!! Just go back on years and read the forum before iPod, iPhone, iPad, iPad Nano. It really is halirious to read these comments now and many commenters would feel silly reading these comments themself! So my point is, you are commenting on something you know absolutely NOTHING about it yet!!

I "KNOW" it's got to have a battery. Given what it's speculated to do, I can't imagine that's a typical watch battery. Therefore I "KNOW" the device has to be recharged. And I "KNOW" I don't want to have to plug in a watch to a charger. I don't even want batteries in a conventional watch. I want a spring-driven automatic watch. That's my preference. If I want smart-phone capability, out comes the iPhone.

You didn't read my post carefully enough. I expressed a preference as to my taste in watches. I don't want an electronic device as a watch. Therefore, an iWatch "...is a non-starter for ME (emphasis added)".

A good looking smartwatch might also look good

Nerd Alert.

Watches are for telling time, stop trying to reinvent the wheel.

We can practically call in an air strike from our cell phones, do we really need it on our wrist too?

I can just see it now...

"Mom, not now, there are charlies two clicks north east."

If you are getting upset by such things, just buy S4 and be happy

I'm definitely happy with my iPhone 5 and the 4 that I had previously. I simply hate that all my Android buddies have to mention every useless feature and use that to support their feeling that their phone is the best. I definitely do not want an Android phone nor am I jealous of the feature set.

I just want a new iPhone with new features :)

I think watches became long fashion statements in addition to telling time. They also can
1. measure and report speed, temperature, air pressure, height, distance,
2. serve as compass, flash lights, stopwatch, tide and moon calculators, electronic calculators, altimeter/barometer & thermometer,
3. serve as mail receivers, alert, alarm, sms, call alert devices,

Example: NFC and low energy Bluetooth equipped, iPhone-ready G shock.

I may need to take off my glasses to read the screen for this one. The act of plugging this watch in to charge.

Something today non-smart watches with battery is way more than 5 days, smaet-watches will take time to get used to.

and why the hell would i wanna look for stuff on a 1.5 ich display? I'll use my phone since i always have it on me, and it larger.. Which the exceuse, you can look at your wrist.
