I can't see these being successful beyond the "geek" community. I would never wear one.
actually with decent battery life (5 days?), and the right look this could be nice addition. I might even wear a watch again.

In your defense, watches have pretty limited functionality right now, however most (but not all) of that functionality would be duplicated by having a smartphone anyways. I am looking forward to see what they come up with (not because I want to wear one).
It reminds me of thousands of similar posts about
ipod
ipad
iphone
iMac
,...etc
This is a non-starter for me. I wear a WATCH. An automatic self-winding no-batteries WATCH! It's a timepiece. That's all I want from it. I don't want to read my email. I don't want to receive notifications. I don't want to put a battery into a watch. I DAMNED SURE don't want to have to recharge it every day or so.
I "KNOW" it's got to have a battery. Given what it's speculated to do, I can't imagine that's a typical watch battery. Therefore I "KNOW" the device has to be recharged. And I "KNOW" I don't want to have to plug in a watch to a charger. I don't even want batteries in a conventional watch. I want a spring-driven automatic watch. That's my preference. If I want smart-phone capability, out comes the iPhone. For every single new product Apple have brought to us, months before people have been bombarding the internet with comments just like this one of yours. "Why do I need it, Why would I buy it" etc etc!! Just go back on years and read the forum before iPod, iPhone, iPad, iPad Nano. It really is halirious to read these comments now and many commenters would feel silly reading these comments themself! So my point is, you are commenting on something you know absolutely NOTHING about it yet!!

The whole iWatch/smart watch idea will be a huge fail. This isn't like the iPhone and iPod. Those replaced useless phones and music players with great and good looking devices. Most people today wear watches because they look good. After all, a watch is jewellery, and the point of jewellery is to look good. Looks come before functionality. People won't throw their nice gold or silver watches that they paid hundreds for and wear a 100$ or 200$ iWatch, which by the looks of it, isn't too pretty. A watch isn't in the same category as a music player, a computer and a phone.

You didn't read my post carefully enough. I expressed a preference as to my taste in watches. I don't want an electronic device as a watch. Therefore, an iWatch "...is a non-starter for ME (emphasis added)".
If you are getting upset by such things, just buy S4 and be happy
Nerd Alert.
Watches are for telling time, stop trying to reinvent the wheel.
We can practically call in an air strike from our cell phones, do we really need it on our wrist too?
I can just see it now...
