Sure. That's what I was making fun of. Why would you base it on that? Do you remember the renders of the original iPhone?

Exactly. Just came across this gem http://iphoneconcept.blogspot.com/ which is a blog from 2006 with concept renderings of what people thought the iPhone would look like. I think the iWatch will look different from any of the concept images that have been floating around.

Just another gimmicky device they can use to milk more money from people, and they could have stuck with the same LCD display used in the iPod Nano (square version). I cant imagine battery life would be to impressive, and I wouldn't dare replace my Tissot Moto GP $1000 Swiss Made watch with this ever. I'll be skipping this product.

This design from 2006 by Malefico is actually quite close. Of course, others are typical thinking in box, based on old SE or Nokia designs,

It reminds me of thousands of similar posts about

You're missing the point. Telling the time will be the least most important feature of he device.

Problem is the current term 'watch' has a very narrow definition. Think small wearable computer and your mind starts to imagine more possibilities.

Very good point! Today`s smart phones are used more to get data vs making phone calls!

1)
I assume you mean phone?
2) How the heck do you write an email on a 1.5" screen?!
3) I've heard the 'will get better over time' since April 2010. It's still the same useless 'assistant', performing pretty much the exact same tasks as any dumb voice assistant.
4) ??? Useful as a whole? Nope.
5) You wouldnt, ever
6) Useful to a tiny percentage of people
7) Kill the iPod, The nano wrist strap was a flop, so Apple already know people dont want that.
8) Meh, your phone can do that
9) I'll give you that one :p

There needs to be a compelling feature - so far there isnt.

1. No I mean voxer could port their app and people could walkie talkie
2. Why write. Thats what siri would be for. Quick emails and Texts, not long drawn out emails and texts.great for driving.
3. Maybe so....but still all things get better with time.
4. Its score updates for sports enthusiasts. Nothing spectacular, but it doesnt necessarily have to be.
5. excatly
6. But its useful to many.
7. The nano offered nothing of the sort that would entice the masses to buy one just to turn into a watch. Cool thought, but no no cool features. Apple created the nano to be an ipod. Consumers created the watch idea.
8. Your right, but the point of a the watch other than to be a watch is to offer the consumer the chance to put the phone down or to keep it in the their pocket I would think.

But maybe you're right. Who knows? I think if done right(definitely has to be innovative though) it could be big.

In the meantime, Samsung started sampling of 2-3 inch displays for the galaxy s uberwatch they have been working on. You can also touch the uberwatches to exchange business cards when you shake hands.

this could be very exciting, but then again it's definitely not gonna include those "no-brainer" features. I'm sure once it gets shown there are gonna be important features missing.

Why the hell would Apple work with Intel on this?
They worked with Intel on the MBA and what did Intel do? They turned around and used that tech to launch their 'ultrabook' initiative.

I gotta give you props for that one. I can see all the stores on Chanel St full of fake iRolex's and purses.

Personally, a watch for me is more fashion or style. I can't see myself trading in my Bertolucci or Rolex for an iWatch, especially as my iPhone will probably make it redundant tech.

To put it on the record, I do not plan on buying a fake Rolex (or any fake watch for that matter), or the iWatch. I am perfectly happy with my iPhone.

Plus I will eventually save up for a Moonstruck one day.

How often would you need to charge it?

Google Glass looks like a$$ on humans, and states volumes about the wearer. Google Glass is notable for the social negatives that it brings.

Wrist watches have long been socially acceptable.

There was a time when people viewed those using mobile phones negatively.

Things change.

For all the people who say this is pointless... I got the Pebble watch off Kickstarter as a "sure why not". Yes, it's too small for real apps (especially because it's not color).

I had zero expectations about the Pebble, only very mild interest... But it's a complete dream in the simplest way. It displays text and email messages on the screen when they arrive. No brainer, right?

I never realized:
1.) how much phone battery life that would save me constantly turning my screen on and off to read texts and emails and see a sports score update.
2.) how much time it would save me... stopping what i was doing to reach into my pocket or walk across a room to see what the text or email says that just buzzed me and then just having it be a closer like "ok" or "lol" or what the sports score update is. time waste!
2b.) Also, how much time have you wasted because you went to check your email/text and started doing other stuff on your phone? That lessons when you have the wrist
3.) Driving-- don't have to risk looking at my phone and driving when texts/emails come in on wrist. Can just peek over and see the text of "ok!" without risking looking at phone.

Needless to say, I'm amped about this because I predict far more interactivity between an Apple watch and my iPhone than the Pebble can do.

March and Feb are only 2-3 months ago... How have things been quiet for "several months"?

The word "several" actually means "more than two, but not many", it comes from Latin - closer to the word "separate" (think "sever") than to seven, which is pretty much an Old English word.

Ok sure. Maybe several can technically mean 3. I would use the word "few" for 3-4 and "several" for 4-6, but I can live with the definition of several being sufficient to mean 3....

But what about two? March is Two months ago. How can rumors have peaked in March, but been quiet for several months?

This is not the type of stuff apple should be working on..

Indeed. Of course they may be successful taking market away from the likes of Swatch et al., but this is an extremely crowded market segmented between two major categories:

- Swiss-made overpriced stuff (yet widely believed as reliable timepieces, of course) - people buying these will NEVER opt for a cheaper Apple device;
- Ordinary crap like Swatch, Casio, Timex etc. - people buying these may buy Apple, meaning that the company's margins will be ridiculously low.

Besides, wrist size is definitely a constraint there, which automatically reduces options in terms of battery life, screen size, touchscreen features, BT connectivity etc.

And of course the major constraint: SJ is gone. I find it hard to believe that Cook would get any closer in terms of anticipating what the market really wants.

In summary: if rumors are true, this will be a major FLOP just like the Pippin.

I agree with all of these. A watch is a fashion statement, and all of these "smart" watches are hideous...plus I don't really know what value it would add to productivity.

I have worn the 6th generation Nano as a watch... until I cracked the screen last month.LOVED IT.Easy to wear with headphones for jogging. The radio is excellent .. I listen to classical music while running and the Nano was greatfor that .
My two issues with the Nano
1) All the wrist bands made are too big for my wrist (which is how the screen cracked- watch rotated and struck a hard surface.
2) Not water proof
I will wear the new Apple Watch, IF it also has an FM radio built in , if it has Bluetooth and if waterproof so I can wear swimming
