Mate…

Apple has had “supply constraints” (whatever they are) since the iPhone 5.

True, I think playing with perceived scarcity has been a big part of Apple’s marketing strategy for a long while. Just builds up a hype in sensitive population to drive up sales. Like “If I don’t get it on day 1 life is ruined and I might have to wait a few weeks longer, horror!” 😋 I enjoy my Apple devices, but my new entertainment is just watching people on public transport around me glued to their phones. It’s like “Too Many Friends” by Placebo.

Initial reaction to this: “ruh-roh!”

But the mention of equipment to check the alignment is a good sign; Apple know how high a reputation they have in photography and I can’t imagine they no longer want to maintain it (even if Phil doesn’t do those segments in the keynotes any more).
Nah, if Apple thought highly of their reputation, they wouldn't be using cables that are too short for years that made their expensive MacBook Pros have backlight defects. But they did anyway.

Just raise the prices of the iPhone, Apple. I’m willing to pay whatever price you decide to put out there.

The periscope camera in 2022 is not going to be cheap. It looks like a very complicated design as is.

Just take my a** already! My hole is ready for you, Apple
ladies and gents, this is why we end up with $300 keyboards with no function keys and poor writing experience!

And not coincidentally, Applecare purchases will be at an all time high this year. ;)
This is probably one of the goals, to boost their services revenue. When people see their $1000+ phones have potential issues and will incur expensive repair costs, they would be more likely to purchase extended warranties.

Oh they will raise prices, no question. That is a separate goal. Apple will continue raising prices to improve their ASPs, regardless of what their cost structure would be. :D

Interesting development, I dare say it may well present an improvement in quality control given that separate lenses assembled may well produce issues were unaware of.
I’m not too bothered about cost saving at customer level (I am just not that much) as long as quality remain the same or improves

So Apple is removing 3 camera manufacturing/assembly specialists and giving it to a run of the mill manufacting specialist. Let's just wait and see how many complaints come in from customers about the iphone camera's produced by Foxconn.

“The new changes are being done to "save costs," but it remains unclear if those savings would be presented to customers”. Seriously? Exactly how much are the cost savings. $0.25 / module $2/ module. This does not sound like a big ticket item, why present it like it is?

Camera-gate?
Lens-gate?

Saving cost at the expense of...? Not saying anything wrong with trying to save cost, but considering Apple is a stickler in maintaining their margins, whenever they want to save cost, something gotta go.
Based on absolutely nothing

Shame with all their zillions they can’t concentrate on making it much better , look at some of the stuff the competition are coming out with … Leica lens … nice 👍🏻
Yah, like all the professional photography reviews always show how bad iPhone is. What? Wait, they are always top, tied for top or close to top? Who knew?

I think this is honestly more about supply/demand price increases, rather than just squeezing more profit out of it. I could be wrong, but prices are up across the board, even for the big fella (Apple)

FairPhone: Modular camera component YOU can replace, along with battery, CPU... well everything.

This news underlines how many resources are invested in what Apple has defined for the industry as a disposable device. Come on Tim, give those who really care about the environment the option of an Apple FairPhone line. I would gladly trade some thinness and weight to really do something related to minimizing my phone enviro-footprint. ("But the shareholders...", Tim). Link:

I mean if a few engineers with virutally no resources can design this phone, what might Apple have been able to do to create an optional FairIphone line for consumers who want to trade off some features for the environment. We'll never know, and Tim gets to take $265 million more to the bank because the market ignores the spillover costs of the disposable culture pretty much engineered by Tim & Co.

This is also smarter from an inventory perspective.. They can buy the same components and use them in multiple devices as needed. iPhone sales are slowing? Throw the cameras into an ipad..etc. instead of parts being destined for only product..

I have no issue with this. But people will complain. Apple could also ditch the short little lightening cable too.
