Whatever the price, Apple is going to release a mass market product. They are looking at selling tens of millions, not a million or two, IMO.

400$ It better......

It better be waterproof have at least a week battery life and do full notification and a metal body not some plastic crap waiting..... Martian smart watches are really looking good

i'd pay 400$ for a nixon watch
but i can't agree to pay this amount of money for a fancy smartwatch

Lol Nixon makes some crap watches. Why would you pay 400 for some crap that's not even worth it's weight in scrap metal and not for an apple iWatch which will likely have great engineering?

This is total BS. There is no way that Apple didn't decide the price first and then build to that pricepoint - of course they might decide later they can flex their muscle a bit on price, but that would be like $50 max on a product like this.

that really doesn't make much sense. who does that?? Wait, I think the double negatives are confusing me. I think you're saying, Apple has probably already chosen a price point but they might discount it $50 or so.

When did Apple ever introduce a new product category without an outrageous price tag? First gen will be at a price where most bloggers and forum posters will be kicking and screaming about how overpriced it is, while they queue up to get one. Then when second gen launches at a significantly lower price, the "people on the street" get on board too, and the sales skyrocket. Look at history.

iWatch will almost definitely have apps in some shape or form. probably apps for your phone that extend functionality over to the watch. Similar to android wear

I doubt if any third party app will be able to do anything with the iWatch other than send it notifications through iOS on the iPhone or receive data from the iWatch through iOS on the iPhone.

historically Apple has released devices that aren't "me-too" products. some have been completely new categories, others have changed the landscape of existing categories. the iWatch or whatever it ends up being called will need to do something completely different than the ever increasing crop of Android-based smart watches do currently. i'm not sure what may be, just as i wasn't sure what could Apple put into a phone that i didn't already have with my Blackberry. if Apple does indeed launch this product, whenever that may me, expect something completely different than what's out there

if all it does is track your heart rate and steps/miles walked, then it's some foresight into Apple going down the *******

Well it will be a 1.0 device and that alone will make it a no-go for me. I do think Apple leaked that info to gauge what people will say. I can imagine it will be around $250

I'm not even entirely sold on the fact that Apple is going to announce a watch. For the past several months there's been a flood of part leaks for the iPhone 6, culminating in a somewhat booting device supposedly assembled from said parts. Meanwhile, not a SINGLE part has come out for this watch. Are we to assume Apple is lousy at keeping suppliers quiet for the iPhone but can lock down parts and specs for a brand new product? Interested to see what Apple comes up with when they are ready to release something, and 400 is a bit steep unless it has iPhone guts in it to do a lot more than just act as a relay for an iPhone, but I'm keeping expectations well in check for any announcements beyond the standard iPhone/iOS ones.

You do know that the iWatch wouldn't be in production yet, right?

I don't even know if it really exists yet, and I have no idea what it does, what's it's made of, what it looks like, or how it works. I don't even know if it's a watch at all. So how the heck can I say any price is too expensive. It's just ridiculous to have an opinion on something you know not one single thing about.

So in countries with carrier subsidies, you could buy two iPhone 6's for the price of a single iWatch?

At $400, count me out.

Hey, that's a great comparison! Tell you what-- why don't you get a new iPhone 6 from a carrier-- I'll buy it from you at the subsidized price, plus a cool $50 profit for your trouble. Win-win, right?

Functionality depending, I'd bite.

People should slow down and think about what direction iOS and OS X have been going in, and see what Apple is planning on doing with this device. My completely in-the-dark guess is they're touting it as your "second screen." It complements your Mac, iPhone, iPad, etc in displaying notifications and other vital information. It'll function as a speakerphone as the "ultimate handsfree device" while you're driving. It'll show you your iMessages and emails as they come in. It can display the weather, contacts, reminders, etc. It'll have a mic and Siri functionality so you never have to reach into your pocket for your phone. Maybe it'll have a 1.4MP cam for FaceTime calls, too. That's a bit of a stretch, however. It'll sync with your iCloud account so notifications are account/device-wide. Added to that the ability to monitor your pulse and other health-related info like a Fitbit. Sleep habits. Activity monitoring. All sorts of possibilities.

Think of it as essentially Google Glass but instead of glasses, it's a watch for a less obtrusive user experience. I can't wait to see what they ended up creating, I'm seriously considering being an early adopter if it looks good enough.

Come on.. still remember the reinvented earbud?

Rumor shall go like these...

"It will come with the new iPhone as a free accessory, and you can buy it separately for $199 and up."

Not making sense? Well, if you look at how Apple throwing their new things into a new market and suck people into their ecosystem with pricing strategy, it will make sense.

On the other hand, a wearable doesn't necessary need to have a screen and all the tend-to-be necessary features we are currently bs-ing (brainstorming lol) around. It can be just something that you wear, and it works in the background and that's it.

Watch? why necessary a watch? So a thing without a screen is not wearable? Come on! Be creative! :apple:

Before the iPad was launched, $1000 was rumoured as a price point. When Steve said $499 everyone viewed it as cheap.

This is Apple leaking a price to manipulate attitudes.

They've undoubtedly discussed a huge range of prices, and the final price points will vary depending on the finish and specs.

But it is NOT going to be called iWatch. Much more than a watch.

iPod touch will disappear, to be replaced by new smaller iPad.

You mean it's not going to cost "several thousand dollars"..??!

Ming-Chi Kuo was wrong??!

http://nypost.com/2014/04/10/apples-long-awaited-iwatch-could-cost-over-1000/

...$400 is cheap, given Apple's pricing structure and profit margins...

Depends on what it does for me... I haven't worn a watch for over a decade... if I'm going to start again... it better be pretty cool!

haters gonna hate...

...and Slater's gonna slate
