Excuse me? Did I understand your suggestion that AirPods could get *cameras* for detecting vehicle hazards and/or improving Apple Maps?
These are just my opinions, but I'm not sure that could be done without degrading the core functionality of the product:
- Materials & manufacturing costs for camera and/or AI hardware
- Power requirements (especially given AirPods known issues with battery degradation) of operating additional hardware
- Hardware costs for on-device video storage (or, RF bandwidth & power for sending data to Maps)
- Privacy(!!) of wearing a device for potentially hours a day that sends photos/video of your surroundings
I can see an argument for taking steps to improve the situational awareness of headphone users. I don't feel that AirPod users would accept measurable cost or power penalties for ... improving Apple Maps.
