But why? It's like the new Apple Watches being able to play music in their tiny speaker... why? Each product must have their distinct function. Just put everything you do on an iMac and give us straps to carry it like a backpack. We sell 1 product that does everything.

The cameras on AirPods could mean we might get some sort of Meta/RayBan sunglasses type of AI assistant. It could take simple snapshots of what's in front of us and give information on that with Apple Inteligence... I wonder about battery life though...

Excuse me? Did I understand your suggestion that AirPods could get *cameras* for detecting vehicle hazards and/or improving Apple Maps?

These are just my opinions, but I'm not sure that could be done without degrading the core functionality of the product:
  • Materials & manufacturing costs for camera and/or AI hardware
  • Power requirements (especially given AirPods known issues with battery degradation) of operating additional hardware
  • Hardware costs for on-device video storage (or, RF bandwidth & power for sending data to Maps)
  • Privacy(!!) of wearing a device for potentially hours a day that sends photos/video of your surroundings
I can see an argument for taking steps to improve the situational awareness of headphone users. I don't feel that AirPod users would accept measurable cost or power penalties for ... improving Apple Maps.

Pretty sure Apple wouldn’t throw the battery life out the door to implement this, but I suppose stranger things have happened.

Kind of pointless if you already work out with an Apple Watch. The new features of the AirPods Pro 3 sound very niche. The AirPods Pro 2 has been one of my favorite Apple product releases, but I’m not sure I’ll be willing to pay for features I don’t care about in the future.

If only the ear fitting parts worked for me, I would be more excited about this product. None of the three fitting sizes will stay in my ear unless I am stationary in a chair. They even fall while I am driving....

Darn shame as there are times I could listen while my wife dozes in the passenger seat beside me or I could listen to a different sound source than the car radio.
