AAPL (clearly) also benefited from the April 24th release of the 2nd-Gen SE, which was probably planned-for in late-2019 !
I don't think Apple had ever released a budget device together with their premium offering. I suspect their strategy has always been to release the high-end models first, let the market buy its fill, then release the cheaper option early next year to avoid cannibalising sales. It's also a good way to spread out demand over the year so you don't have too much unused capacity.

It's probably easier to predict demand this way - how well or poorly your sales do will give a pretty good picture of how much or little to target the following year.

I owned 100 shares of Apple back when it was $60/share and sold it.
I would have had 2800 shares of Apple if I had kept the shares. A 280,000 mistake.
Not feeling swell.

bonus...4 to 1 stock split
though your shares are same value
it looks impressive on shares you hold
looks are everything

Except it would take a $40 uptick in stock price pre-split to generate gain as $10 post-split and a pretty sure bet that we'll easily be seeing those kinds of gains from September onwards and before we know it, we'll be in the $200+ territory again.

Why? be like Buffet and hold for the long term. I have had my shares since the last split. I sell a few shares once a quarter to augment my social security, can't live on that alone.

No not a buy and holder this year. Avoided the crash. Picked up tech and did very well. But we’re at a bubble as I’m not confident in a v shaped rally. Worst is yet to come imo. At any rate I’ll probably rotate out of tech and do some more hedging as I did back in feb. That’s not to say Apple won’t do great later. But I’ll buy again when low.

apple has good timing, for example releasing the SE2 on the day folks got their stimulus check.

for these who think they missed out not buying apple stocks, please don't fret, there are alot of other stocks with high potentials too.

one lesson i learned is don't grieve on past stocks, keep looking into future potentials, i was properly miffed when i sold bynd at 119 only to see it climb to 160 couple months back.

Hey same here...bought my first shares of AAPL in '04 and rode every split since then. After this split I'll be riding high on ~30,000 shares.

Wow. That’s some dedication right there. Not that I expect you to reply to this, but I’m curious if you were ever thinking about Selling during the bouts of down-sided waves. Three years ago in August, I sold mine, and wish I hadn’t. But then again, I didn’t have the proper guidance and I overreacted to the media stimulus that likes to ‘pound’ on Apple when they see any type of weakness/decline.

Anyways, Those are impressive numbers you’re at.

you wouldn't be thinking that if you sold it and bought tesla 3 years ago 😂

I invested 50 grand in Apple in 2002 and a few years and a couple of stock splits later I had a couple million dollars. About 10 years ago I gave all the money away to family and started a new life from scratch. I mean completely new start without a penny. It was hard work but I’m proud of becoming financially comfortable again in the last decade.
What motivated you to give the money away? How old were you at the time? And what new direction did you take to bring you where you are today?

Huge fanboy here that bought my first AAPL shares at age 17 or so in 1996:)

Nice for you. I was thinking about it back then, but it was too difficult to buy US stocks from my Swedish bank. Unfortunately... 😬

no no.
Stocks after the split will drop in dollar amount (although same value). The key here is the current quarter will remain steady (many countries are opening up to/past Phase 3; schools opening up for K12+University full time like us in Canada). Also the next quarter will absorb BOTH the iPhone 12 as well as 2 Macs with Apple Silicon.

lastly you’re getting 3x the increased dividends (After split) vs 1 (before the split) ;)

I was around 30 and not emotionally mature or happy enough to have the wealth I had at the time. I always suffered from depression and a lot of money can kill someone like that. Giving up the money and removing myself from my father’s will was the best move I ever made. I restarted from scratch and pursued a career in the stuff that I loved in my teens but never had a chance to before. When I say I started from scratch again I literally mean going from millionaire to zero bucks.

I held all my Apple and bought Tesla 6+ years ago. Some where around $70. Figured I was just supporting the green energy dream. 3rd best dream of of my life. APPL, MSFT, TSLA.

My advice to people is invest for the long term. You don't worry too much about the immediate price if your time horizon is years or decades in the future.

Thank you.

I can't really recall a time in the last 15 years that I seriously considered selling a significant portion of my shares. The money I had initially put into it was basically disposable after-tax income and I figured any investment in equities was better than the junky low savings/CD interest rates that we've had for almost 2 decades now. Sure, AAPL has had its dips but it's always come back stronger.

Uhg! Your not alone on the ‘shoulda, coulda, wouldas’, Ive got a list of those. Such as not listening to myself when Tesla was at $30😬

Last quarter Apple listed $193 Billion in Cash and Securities, at 2:25 this quarter they said:

2:25 pm: Total debt of $113 billion. Net cash is $81 billion at end of quarter.

Is that basically saying $194 Billion as they are taking cash and securities and subtracting all debts? Marvelous quarter during this pandemic.

I don’t have experience with stock but does this mean that I can start buying stocks in Apple for 100$ in August compared too 400 now?

Yes. But the each share is only work 1/4 that it is now. Plus any one who owns shares right now, will have 4x the number of shares. So, if you own 10 shares now, after the split, you will own 40, but at 1/4 the price.
