we began shipping iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus to customers in more than 50 countries. Instantly became our two most popular iPhone models and have been in every week since.

Reality check for many people around here.

Not at all. I Call that continued growth and success. Nothing disturbing about that at all.

I suppose it depends on what one wants to pay for ownership or rent*. I prefer the former because it is cheaper. I see Apple's services being targeted toward recurring fees (e.g., Apple Music), like rent.

*and on whether one owns APPL stock...

In inflation adjusted dollars back in 1999. I’m just talking nominal dollars.

In inflation adjusted dollars, they would have had $740,753,301,320.53 in 1999. I think someone is trying to regurgitate old news about MS being the first to hit $700 billion with inflation.

Apple Music and? I know I spent more on music without Apple Music than I do on the subscription.

Very impressive with strong results in services. Hardware continues to lag, particularly the iPhone. Predicting a $10 billion increase in revenue year-over-year in the 4th quarter. That may not be a good omen for the iPhone X given the way services is growing. iPhone revenue needs to increase substantially now that the demand for a redesigned phone will be satisfied.

Next quarter will tell the tale. Fairly flat unit sales in the iPhone for three straight years now. If iPhone unit sales don't show a supercycle and increase quite a bit in the next quarter because of pent up demand for the redesign I think it will show the market has reached a saturation point and future growth will have to come from other areas.

I'm curious to see what the channel build for iPhones was. They beat last years' iPhone units (sell-in) number by more than a million and last year saw a significant channel build. If they beat last years' sell-through number by, say, 2 million, that would be quite impressive considering the effect that the upcoming iPhone X might have had on demand.
I could be wrong but I think they did 2 inventory corrections this year. 1 in their 2nd qtr and 1 in the 3rd

Anybody else find it disturbing that Apple's services are bringing so much revenue given the very high costs of their hardware?
It's inevitable. Apple is increasing their focus on services and doing a good job of convincing people to avail themselves of said services. Personally I think it's GREAT to see the iPhone down to 55% of revenue. Less eggs in that one basket. More diversified cash is a good thing in my view.

I think Mr. Maestri said iPhone channel build was 1.2 million (or maybe he said 1.3 million). That means iPhone sell-through was up about 2-1/2 million YoY.

...

If by channel corrections you mean quarters in which they drew down (rather than built up) channel inventory, then yeah. They typically have 2 each year. (Although in earlier years, when iPhone sales were growing at a faster rate in general, they typically only had 1.)

the newest models instantly become most popular models. Nothing new or to see here. Says nothing about their sales compared to a year ago. Something tells me that the X becomes most popular model this week.
