Snakeoil: the most common usage of the phrase is as a derogatory term for quack medicine. The expression is also applied metaphorically to any product with exaggerated marketing but questionable or unverifiable quality or benefit.

Please explain how I am posting this from an apple product, how I make a living using apple products and how I enjoy and get much benefit for many years from all apple products if it is snakeoil ?????

I think the fact that he registered using the name of a Harry Potter character tells us all we need to know. I'm sure he's trolling instead of doing his geometry homework.

does Apple needs to get a approval from ATT it apple has to release a iPod touch with Phone (with out cellular data access)

will this device is part of the ATT and APPLE 5 year agreement?

i think ultimate is iPod touch becomes some form of phone; eventually it is a phone with iPod or smart phone with iPod

i know current iPhone does everything... there will be more sales if there is no mandatory data plan requirement and 2 year agreement and reliance on Network providers for the agreement.

countries like India there are more prepaid subscribers than a monthly post paid customers; they just get the phone in full price;

with $699 iPhone 5 is no go
with $299 iPod touch +Phone might be definite Hit

The way the Recent Wired Article Reads... anything that moves stuff off of the ATT broadband data network will be a welcome relief for MaBell. Reading between the lines, it appears that ATT is the reason for iPhone4's facetime running on WiFi only (they were scared their network would implode)

If you look at FaceTime (iChat) moving to all Apple wireless and wired systems, and compatible with iPhone... T gets all the contracts for those that can and want a phone that can do video calls (in wireless, eventually in likely LTE mode), and Apple can sell the boxes and the service to everyone else (requiring them to register either a me.com account ($99 a year... pretty cheap for phone calls), or not be on the nationwide exchange.

Pretty soon... Mobile phone networks will pretty much be just selling bandwidth... and backup phone lines (much like landlines are evaporating today to be just DSL final mile delivery experts).

As soon as Skype and the other VOIP players link up to FaceTime (or build a competing but at least voice compatible service, this will be the next big thing.

What do you do, play FarmVille on your iPad? Oh, wait... it won't be 'til like, November 2010 before iOS is available and it took aaaall the way to mid-2010 for it to come from the iPhone/iPod Touch. lol

Free iPhone 4 Cases Will Cost $175 Million to Apple
http://erictric.com/2010/07/20/free-iphone-4-cases-will-cost-175-million-to-apple/

And to think they were going to MAKE $29.99/case/flawed design iPhone 4 owner until they were caught w/ their hands in the cookie jar. I'll say it again: "What an ethical company."

...Truth is, the top 10% earn and own well more than those 50% of all wealth. The top 1% already own 35%, while the "bottom" 80% own 15%. So much for "fair share" of taxes. The ones that are really screwed are the middle class. They pay more taxes per $ of income than the rich, it hurts them much more and still they don't really have a chance to rise into the ranks of the wealthy.

Yeah, the boat story, I'm in tears. The only problem with it is that the wealthy rarely employ that many people, companies do. And companies don't require the existence of wealthy people.

Whoa, beware of advocacy statistics. The "Top 10%" do NOT "own" more than 50% of all wealth--sorry, there is absolutely no factual basis for that. The other ownership numbers are questionable as well.

There are also "numbers" out there that say that a family of 4 earning $60,000 a year pays no taxes on average, after available deductions and credits.

As far as the middle class, there is no other middle class in the world that has the standard of living of the American middle class, and no place where the middle class has a better opportunity to become a millionaire. Those are the facts, even IRS numbers support this.

That's not to say I'm opposed to a little higher rates on the wealthy, under the current circumstances. Bu I think a much better plan is to eliminate deductions, and institute a "more or less" flat tax--pick a bottom income number below which you pay no taxes ($40,000?). Everyone else pays the exact same rate, say 15%.

For anyone keeping score, these earnings are simply incredible.

For all the lamenting and bitching that goes on in these forums, the company must be doing something right.

Gee, with all the comparisons of the iPhone 4 to Vista, you'd think Microsoft would have given away free bumpers (W7) to their loyal users, as well.

And to think that conversely, MS charged a substantial upgrade fee - say it again: "What an ethical company." Talk about adding insult to injury.

What, sweetheart deals w/ corrupt cheap, lazy layabouts like AT&T is doing something right? I guess for the $$$ bottom line $$$, yeah.

On top of the iPad, maybe Apple would like to create the iWatch to further extend that exclusivity on the iPhone (just like they did w/ the iPad). Oh, but it's all about user experience. A Microsoft could make a frustrating product to use (what Vista is to MS, the antenna flaw for the iPhone 4 is to Apple) and rake in the profits, but I don't hear the cheering for that. In fact, Sony-Eriksson can do it w/OUT annoying it's customers and here in Fanboyland, it's "you suck, S-E!".

the only flaw here is in your logic

the company would produce and sell bumpers with or without antennagate

despite the antenna problem, most people love iphone4. customer satisfaction rates are high for all of their products

so what exactly are you complaining about

No one demanded free handouts, but since the wealthy are not building roads or power lines, nor are they paying the police, teachers or anyone else (with the exeption of their Mexican nannys and gardeners maybe), it would only be fair to demand that they pay at least the very same percentage as the middle class, right?

And what else do you think wars are waged for other than the geostrategical interests of the US? Since the US economy is absolutely super-dependent on oil imports and not able to produce enough on their own even if they drilled like crazy in the entire gulf and the Arctic, reliable oil supply is very high on that list. If you don't realize that, you are extremely naive.

There is a middle ground between Michael Moore's blatant and silly propaganda and plain ignorance towards the issues of unregulated capitalism and an outright aristocratic political system. (The US is the only Western country where you HAVE to be wealthy in order to gain any form of regional or even federal political power.) And, it's funny (and worrying) how quickly the biggest crises of laissez faire regulation are forgotten. That includes the oil spill, which has already reached a point where people other than locals stop caring.

How about 10 percent taxes across the board no matter how much money you make. And you get to keep that 90% and do whatever you wish with it.

Doesn't everyone wish it was that simple?

I do keep score which is why I generally laugh at all the lamenting and bitching that goes on here.

I really don't understand why these people complain about Apple. If anything, they should be asking the current CEOs of every other Fortune 500 company, "why don't you guys perform like Apple?" And then follow up with, "and why are you getting paid so much? Steve Jobs makes one dollar a year."

Today was a fine day for AAPL shareholders, not so much for Apple haters. Which is like most days, for what it's worth.

:D

Boooo Hooooo, Let's all get along in peace and harmony. Yes We Can!! Yes We Can... I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony!!!!!

Hey, are you teaching your kids to sing Obama Hymns :) Go Hug A Tree!! Yes We Can, Yes We Can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Boy, you're really thick...

How much of that came from $29.99 bumpers because Apple CSRs (customer service representatives) were told not to "appease" the angry customers with free bumpers?

Ah, such an ethical company Apple is. Oh, but let's go back to trashing a Microsoft or a Google for earning a profit, shall we?

You do realize the there is no evidence Apple ever said that, and certainly not that they ever used the word "appease". The whole story is based on BGRs anonymous "Apple Connect." Even BGR did not claim seeing a document.

Oh capitalism... Sad to see regular people focused so hard on the profit of a single corporation (including the entire stock exchange, which is basically like betting on horse races). Also sad to see that corporation focused so hard on its own profits, neglecting quality or ideals where it doesn't make them more money.

Sad to see your post. :p

Oh and I am mostly liberal, so stop your stereotyping. The only stipulation I add to your comment is the fact that the richest Americans pay far less in taxes (% wise) than the middle class as well as the lowest in modern US history. Warren Buffet estimated his tax burden at 17.7%. That's a hell of a lot less than most people pay. The same holds true for the rest of the super wealthy. Just a thought to ponder when you develop your positions on taxes.

P.S. Don't apply generic labels to yourself like "free-market conservative American", all it does is imply LESS independence. Which is ironic since people that apply the "free-market conservative American" label to themselves tend to point out how 'independent' they are and need help from noone and don't benefit from any kind of external assistance (a fallacy).

Your logic is somewhat flawed. Yes Warren Buffet may have a tax burden of 17.7% compared to my 20%+ but who pays more money? Certainly not I. So truly you can't say that "that's a hell of a lot less than most people pay" as his simple 17% is a far greater amount than either you or I pay. It always has to have your caveat of (% wise) because if not, your argument wouldn't hold water.

Funny because it's true. Also funny that the Microsoft apologists weren't demanding free Win7 upgrades. These poor saps epitomize the "bend over and take it" mentality, but are expert in the art of transference.

Right you are, a reflexive conditioning which parallels that of Pavlov's Dogs.

A mentality which extends far and beyond passive acceptance, yet is desperately hopeful to seek out others suffering a similar fate.

I really hope Apple breaks away ATT or break away from ATT contracts some how ...

I really think iPod touch should be replaced with iPhone wi-fi and sell to the entire world with out much interference from telecom operators.

or the telecom operators sell the Apple device with contract for much lower price ( here i am talking about the phone with out data plan requirement)

who knows where 3" LCD screen going to end up. there needs a differentiator between iPhone 4 (with data plan/contract) and a iPhone Wi-Fi (with out data plan/contract)

i am assuming most iPod touch customers will be happy to have iPod touch and a Phone (excluding data plan) - for $299 retail price point that is a hot seller - IMHO.

APPLE: we have amazing new products still to come this year

I really wish that is iPod touch + Phone - data plan - 2 year wireless contract

Apple is never going to match MSFT's profit margins. That is an inherent disadvantage of being a HW maker, as opposed to a SW shop.

Well, never say never. With a higher growth rate on revenues, it can match and exceed MSFT earnings. Give them another 2 to 6 quarters.
