Apple is expensive, but I think its more that they don't have an "entry level" product. If they let you trim down the systems the prices would be lower, but they only offer systems that can do what they say they can do. They are built right and supported.

I don't know why anyone wouldn't invest their money in Apple. I know Steve's health is a concern in a long term timescale, but they did just fine the last time Tim took over a the helm.

What other company in the world has such enormous growth potential as Apple? I seriously can't think of one.

At this size too. Blimey :

Based on the rumors about the upcoming iPad v2 and iPhone 5, I think it has.

Huh? What does that even mean?

Working at a Reseller, I'm always baffled by people's remarks of, "I understand there's going to be a new iPad coming out...". Yeah, no *****. It's not as if Nintendo made the NES/Famicon, and then stopped. Every year this stuff gets updated. And the Mac obviously gets updated even more so. At any rate, I also hope that they do dump a sizeable chunk of it on further innovation.

I love this quote, when talking about current Android-based tablets, the best:"Instead you have a scaled-up smartphone, which is a bizarre product in our view." What the hell does he think the iPad is running? An iPhone's OS. It's a scaled-up iPhone.

Is it really that hard to recognize the difference between simply scaling up the UI as Android tablets are currently doing and redesigning the user interface to take advantage of a larger tablet display as Apple did with the iPad?

No matter how you phrase it, iOS is scaled up on the iPad.

RE: Stock split.

The nice thing about having a stock with a very high entry fee is, it keeps the traders out. I think Apple prefers to have the stability from long term investors vs the roller coaster ride of some guy who thinks he can become a billionaire by day trading.

Edited to add, my one Apple concern, if Apple keeps growing at the current rate, the FCC will be pressured to try to break them up.

Welcome to Micro$oft 2011. I wonder what happens to Apple after SJ though.

Why do many people here seem to think that the world would be a better place without competition?

I shudder at the thought.

A lot of MacRumors commenters based in the USA have little awareness of other countries.

I have repeatedly pointed out that T-Mobile is an official iPhone carrier in about 8-10 European markets, but it appears that some people don't get it.

Basically, there are a lot of commenters with extremely limited worldviews on this site. Probably folks who don't have passports and have never traveled outside of the country's borders. Country bumpkins essentially.

I wonder if Apple's profit will beat Microsoft's?? I know it 'doesn't matter', but it'd be awesome if it did!!

It's interesting to take a look back at Apple's Q1 results from 5 years ago.

Mac sales have gone from 1.25 million to 4.13 million and it's incredible to see today's profits are higher than the revenue from 5 years ago.

Ok dude, please make a list of the differences between the original iPhone UI and iOS 3.0. Be very specific. Stand behind your statements. And be aware, the vast majority of iPad applications at the time were just scaled-up iPhone apps. So, I'll just sit back and wait for your list. Crickets.

Not quite there yet, but it is getting closer. One question is how much the iPad, and eventually Android tablets, will take away from netbook sales and therefore from Windows licenses. And Google is working on alternatives for Microsoft Office; that could cost Microsoft badly. So there are things going on increasing Apple's profits, while at the same time other things are reducing Microsoft's profits.

I think we'll have to wait a year or two.

people forget that you still need a computer with the iPad, but Android is a bit more independent.

i have to buy a new laptop this year and will probably buy the iPad2 as well. for the laptop i'm going to get a dell or something similar since the iPad and the iphones we have in the house are used a lot more
