if it walks like a troll, and talks like a troll, it...

A troll is someone who deliberately stirs up trouble by repeatedly making comments that cause flame wars to break out. Regardless of whether the content is anti-, pro- or indifferent-Apple, the consequences should be the same regardless of content. By claiming pro-Apple Trolling is fine, and Anti-Apple isn't, it no longer becomes an issue about trolling, it is simply censorship. And you can't even begin to have a sensible discussion if one half of the argument is deliberately silenced because people don't agree with it!

I agree, but no one ever proclaimed that "pro-apple-trolling" is acceptable (whatever that is). This is not about dissent, or differing opinions, this is thread hijacking. As far as being silenced, I don't see that either. Sorry, "troll" fits... in my opinion that is.

Go back and search through some of the other threads that some of these folks have posted on. If they have the right to call us "fanboys" or "sheep", surely I have the right to call them "troll".

Why don't Apple do what they do in New Zealand where they sell the iPhone through the store and leave it up to the customer to go off and purchase a SIM pack from their mobile phone carrier? What is so hard with such a concept? or are American mobile phone carriers still behaving like the mobile phone carriers did in New Zealand during the 90s?
AT&T is paying Apple around US$600 for each iPhone, the customer is only paying US$200; the difference is made up (and then some) with monthly fees over the duration of the two-year contract.

Even if there were competing wireless vendor options (there aren't), the customer cost wouldn't be US$200 any more. Not a perfect system, but the one that probably sells the most phones and two-year contracts. OBTW, most smartphones in the US are sold this way, it's not iPhone-specific.

While the hardcore fanbois like BRlawyer are an embarrassment, it definitely is hilarious seeing a few people trying to spin a company's best quarter ever as a bad thing.

Thank you for the unwarranted personal remark that simply ignores the reasons WHY I am a "fanboy" in the first place, such as superior build quality, unsurpassed creative design, vastly better UI, ease of use, integration software/hardware and, finally, a non-criminal behavior when compared to companies like MS; anything of substance to add, Sir?

But I don't see the reason why if you like Apple stuff, some people deem you as some kind a traitor if you don't also hate Windows stuff.

I don't argue that should be the case. I despise MS for many reasons and will not buy their products (though I'm forced to use them at work), but if you enjoy them it's fine with me. Just don't camp an Apple-oriented forum if all you feel for Apple is rage and loathing. It's annoying and it's rude.

Then again the iPhone itself offers very little utility besides being able to developer for it.

LagunaSol is there some problem that Apple doesn't sell anything of value to me right now?

Not at all. But why endlessly boob about it here? Do you think Apple will read your posts and say "Hey, let's release a $400 laptop for Eidorian?"

And the constant implication that "thinking" people don't buy Apple stuff is sheer trollage on this site. There are other places where you can bag on Apple and give the other Apple-bashers virtual high-fives, but this is not the place.

In other words, what is your point exactly? We get it, nothing Apple makes suits you and it's all horribly overpriced and you'd rather just pirate Apple's software and put it on your own cheap machines. Seriously, we get it. Maybe you should look for another forum zip code where you'll better enjoy the neighborhood? Try AnandTech.

You didn't even bother reading my post. I said I was with you on the part of owning and enjoying Apple products. I have no rage and loathing whatsoever towards Apple.

This doesn't mean I think they are above criticism and if I don't like something they are doing I'm well within my rights to express my dissatisfaction. If you don't like the fact I don't worship Apple with blind devotion and harbour a pathetic hatred towards their competitors, then that's tough.

Your approach to it is the problem because it's always loud, obnoxious, and gets peoples backs up. You could just try being more modest and less 'in your face' and fewer people would have a problem with you.

Sorry, I wasn't referring to you, but to the obvious trolls that infest this forum. I should have made that clear

I absolutely agree. It's a common strawman of the anti-Apple brigade here that those of us who use and enjoy Apple products have no criticism of the company, an argument that is absurd and small-minded. The "blind devotion," "cultist," "sheep" arguments are amusing coming from those who proselyte the 90%-market-share OS.

(I do loathe Microsoft and offer no apologies for it.)

Apple is deeply flawed, yet far more appealing than the alternative. For now. And this is the place where we talk about what we like and don't like about the company. Those who have nothing but derision for Apple should do the courteous thing and go somewhere where their constant gnashing of teeth has some sympathetic company. And there are plenty of places on the Web for that for sure.

I'm sensing much angst and gnashing of teeth from MSFT trolls. I mean heck, MSFT is still more profitable by every measure then Apple. You'd figure MSFT trolls wouldn't care less. :)

Yep, there's the exact lame argument I mentioned in my previous post. Like clockwork.
You're one step short of calling me a Microsoft astroturfing shill along with some Ballmer joke and then you turn around and say that's it's perfectly fine for me to talk about what I think are Apple's flaws. :D

I think all of you are a little caught up in BS terms. Go outside and do something instead of bitching back and forth about the qualities of a fanboy.

Time for stockholder dividends!

Apple is one of the best known brands in the world and a highly profitable corporation. It's high time they share the wealth with stockholders. I vote for stockholder dividends to be distributed starting in 2011.

I am sure some of these profits come at the expense of Education store purchases that no longer come with free AppleCare.

Apple has no need to hand out dividends. The cash hoard will ensure permanent survival. It's not meant to be used, more like a rainy day fund. In the worst case if the economy totally tanks it will allow Apple to invest in the next generation of tech for when we get out of Great Depression 2.0.

Can Apple open its own bank now?

With this year on year profit has Apple got to the stage when it can just print its own money? Or open their own bank, given the others have gone to the wall or have been bailed out. I would certainly like like my plastic to have a nice apple logo:) Seriously with this type of performance Apple should hopefully weather the downturn (Yeah! :))

Taking the IPO as start date is a decision just as random as picking any other date. So your argument falls flat entirely.

If you compare two stocks, you ALWAYS have to pick SOME DATES, and it's ALWAYS an extremely easy way to make one stock look bad and another one good. In your case, you chose the IPO date to make MSFT look better than AAPL, which is exactly the sort of trickery you accuse others of.

It lies in the eye of the beholder, which start/end dates for a stock comparison you consider more relevant than others. However, it is a consensus that more recent numbers are more significant than numbers that are 20+ years old

Listen, all I was trying to show was that just because you like a product of a certain company does not mean it's the best investment.

I wanted to show that even though most people here hope microsoft goes bankrupt, the fact is, since it's IPO, it has returned much better gains for the shareholder. What do you not understand about that? That's just a simple fact I stated, not an opinion.

Then just to be sure, incase people like you said, you have to use the same date to date, I used an example off the top of my head which was Bank of America, which has returned 30% more than apple in the last year.

All I'm saying is that just because you really like the product of a certain company, does not automatically mean that if you invest in that company, you're going to get the best return.

I would have loved to add to Apple's record sales but there still isn't a Mac mini tower!
Money burning a hole in my pocket and still no product I want to spend it on.
I recently wrote Apple a letter and got a canned response back. "We listen to our customers when developing new products."
