I love and hate the 11” iPad Pro. It’s far and away the best iPad I’ve ever owned, but with so many apps running in the smaller mode, it’s also super frustrating. Still can’t figure out what compelled them to make a single iPad in all the iPad lineups a different aspect ratio. Seems incredibly short sighted unless all iPads are going to this aspect ratio, but why not then the 12.9” iPad as well?!? I don’t get it at all.

The idea was to make it tall enough to support a decent size keyboard, but not make it wider. Unfortunately it has turned out to be a poor decision; most frustrating are video players that are still showing significant black bars, such as NFL GamePass and Eurosport Player.

Right?! The 11” iPad Pro is my most regretted Apple purchase. Months later I’m still seeing apps get “updated” but they are still running at 10.5” iPad size. Utterly annoying.

it takes time. I remember my first iPad was the 3rd gen one, and when I saw apps get updated for the Retina display it was amazing and at the same time I had apps that took forever to get upgraded, even just their icons. the Citi bank one took ages.

Lots of devs scrambling. Hoping this FINALLY puts an end to all the apps that are STILL not optimized for 10.5" iPads let alone the 12.9.

About time! It shouldn't be that difficult for developers to make these adjustments.....

This is also a good way for Apple to keep the riff-raff out of the store. I just wish apps "expired" and disappeared if no updates have been submitted for at least two years.

Interesting that a lot of devs seemingly haven’t found it important to add support until Apple forced them to. Wonder if that says anything about product demand/usage.

Some devs are just in it to make a quick buck. They don't actually care about offering a solid app or a good user experience. They don't care about the app or the users, only the money. It's great that Apple keeps raising the bar like this. Make them devs work!

so most apps from idies will probably not be updated again due to the hassle factor.

hassle? Are you a developer, maybe you could comment? It is as easy as dragging a new device (well you know, of course not that easy, but close) in Xcode and recompiling.

If a developer is not keeping current, are they still supporting their product?

Are you kidding? There's very little money in app development unless you are one of the big players. Developers would have to spend a fortune marketing their apps to make any sort of decent money to compete with the bigger names out there. When you launch an app on the App Store it disappears into the ethos.

Depending on how the dev has impemented autolayout, constraint handling and out of box UI elements will determine how difficult and time consuming it is to adapt to different screen sizes. Many times it is not a trivial task...I hate it when new devices arrive with different resolutions.

Continuing to support everything from the SE upwards is hard work. Now in terms of Android....let's not even go there!!

And Fortnite update released on the 30th still doesn’t support 2019 12.9 iPad Pro...
