Sexual harassment and "inappropriate" behavior are synonymous in this case. They have already paid out out on one of those. Why not just get rid of the guy?

Makes me glad I don't work there, or the tech industry in its entirety. It's looks like nothing except bro culture.

They probably will get rid of the guy, or exile him to the metaphorical equivalent of a room without windows in the basement. But it will be done behind closed doors, an announcement about it made after the fact.

All the board of directors will care about is mitigating any damage this causes, not the damage done to the staff themselves.

Only because Apple is protecting him. They already did an internal investigation and paid out on sexual harassment. They want to save face and not pay out again.

I wouldn't say they're protecting him as such, he can be quietly thrown under the bus. Apple will be protecting shareholder value. As that's the primary task of any publicly-traded company.

I know nothing about the guy and have no idea what he is like personally or as a leader, but I would say that in my experience many young people today have been so sensitized by our victim culture that they are under constant suspicion that they are being mistreated by those in the workplace. I can't tell you how many times in the last year that I have had to listen to complaints about how 'unfair' things are and how people are abusive simply because they disagree or because some comment was misunderstood. Abusive people clearly should be dealt with, but there are plenty who just need to suck it up a bit and realize that the world ain't a perfect place.

If apple continues to back people like this guy who sounds like a creep then I bet people will walk away and drop apple altogether. They will go outta business very soon.

Do you have any actual basis aside from “sounds like a creep” based on some blog story? Without specifics you’re basically making up nonsense, particularly with the part about how people will drop Apple and “they will go outta business very soon.”

Sounds like an ill-fated attempt to copy Jobs' management style. But he's not Steve Jobs and times have changed.
Yes, this new generation of people are oversensitive, can only be handled with tweezers and gloves.

If you say Hi to a woman, she may say you are harassing her. If you don't say Hi, then she will acuse you of staring at her. At the same time, they love to post their photos and video with barely any clothes on TikTok and Instagram...
Who would understand it?

This new generation would also complain about not liking their job because it's too difficult... Asking their bosses to give them something else to do, because their currently assigned tasks are boring... and so on.

Get back to work and stop complaining!

"Some blog story"?

This was reported by the New York Times.

The New York Times' Tripp Mickle today reported that "nine current and former employees" who worked with or for Apple's Vice President of Fitness Technologies Jay Blahnik have accused him of creating a "toxic work environment."

Have you ever worked for one of the top 5 corpos? This stuff happens. And in Apple’s case, well obviously, Apple will always defend their image first, the higher position person second and HR will always make the people who file complaint feel like they are the problem.

Happens in my sector as well.

I’m not saying any more than that.

If a complaint for sexual harassment was "settled", that means he did what he was accused of, but paid money to make the accusations go away. Nobody would "settle" without having done anything wrong.

It’s not just that the entire board is full of old people with no innovative insights and they all seem to believe e they’re above the law - Tim Cook and the board all need replaced. It’s not about money when it creates such a terrible work environment.

Agree totally...

Lest we forget the VP who lied under oath in the Epic case.

The horse is way out of the barn at Apple under Tim Cook.

I just read the original article. The dude just seems entirely unprofessional.

But he is originally from Nike, I wouldn’t expect anything less. I will wait for the lawsuit to settle before deciding on the deeper accusations

I've worked for accomplished jerks and it's not easy or fun. I'm sure many of you have. I see allegations like those in the story as lessons for how to do better. The allegations in there are serious and I hope are taken seriously. I also wasn't there and don't know the full stories. I hope overreaction and inflated entitlement are tempered too, which a bunch of you have talked about. I'm trying to be measured with my judgement to better serve my "don't be a jerk" motto. It feels like everyone is ready to explode at everything. It reminds me of the things Simon Sinek talks about, which seem pretty plausible to me.

I have seen this behavior with an executive that I worked at and it really hurts people mentally. I confronted this executive privately as a friend and not a subordinate to talk to him about it and he was unaware he was doing anything wrong. Within a year later, he was terminated. He had a habit of getting terminated from job to job both in his past and in the future.
