They don't care about good customer service anymore. For whatever reason they can't meet the anticipated launch day demand with in store stocks so to avoid the embarrassment of disappointed people on TV after waiting in line for hours they moved it all online where they can hide the production problems.

I sure hope it arrives as soon as the 24th. I don't actually own an iPhone 6 (just borrowed now for the videos and research) and the watch will help me finish my research project before May 15th.

You really can't buy it on April 24?

so, you can't line up on April 24 to buy one? really? If that's true, then almost NOBODY understands that. I just listened to a CNBC broadcast from 11 AM ET and one of the full-time analysts that covers AAPL with a $180 price target just said people can buy it on April 24....very badly communicated

in any case, I have a couple different models on order so doesn't matter to me...

You could also wait until the 7th generation which will be vastly superior to the second generation...
Hopefully by the 7th gen it will just be a tattoo that disappears until you activate it.

He was also mocked for sending a long email. People told him no one would read it it was too long, he was a whiner, etc. He remained classy even though he was being mocked.

We had a user here who originally broke the antennagate story and got the famous "don't hold it that way" reply fromSteve Jobs. He too was mocked and basically insulted.

I remembered the Antennagate story and how they ridiculed for doing so. I read Andrews thread and the way people on this forum were throwing *Shade* at him. TBO it pissed me off, bc it boiled down to an online bullying type of situation, which was not cool! I do commend Andrew for keeping his composure and never stooping to their level!
Great Job Andrew!

I won't be buying one of these overpriced test watches, but if I did I wouldn't care if Apple didn't send it for a few months, they're probably only making about $10 on it, besides it makes me feel good to see them making a few bucks.

You don't understand your own analogy. :)

The Avengers opens May 1, but there will be incredible demand and the chances are good you will have to stand in long lines at the theater until there is an opening for you to buy a ticket. Most shows will sell out until the demand subsides, so you might not even get in the first day. You can always pre-order online quickly when tickets are put on sale to ensure that you get a seat, but shows can sell out online as well.

How is this scenario any different than the Apple Watch? In both cases, the product arrives on a certain date, but pre-orders can sell it out before that date arrives, so there is nothing for a walk-in on launch day to purchase.

It's different in that you can walk into a theater and see the movie- not every showtime is sold out. There's a chance to see it. There's no chance to walk in and buy a watch.

The product is actually in the theater and available for 'purchase'.

Just because some of the available products sell out, doesn't mean it wasn't available.

The general public expects to walk in and have a chance to walk out with one. WE are not the general public.

It's not the best analogy, but I was on the 'clock' lol. :p

Man could you imagine if those delivery times actually turned out to be the case? That's almost halfway through the product cycle! XD

But seriously, this watch is really something. I'll probably wait until second-gen though to either a) snag this current gen at a discount like Apple always does with their outdated tech or b) just get the second-gen because it'll be so super fantastical. I dunno. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

People here obviously never tried to buy a pair Air Jordan Retros on release day. Literally in microseconds they are sold out. And there's never a chance to get a pair later unless you wanna pay Ebay's inflated scalper prices.

At least with the AppleWatch, even if you didn't preorder you still can pick one up of your choice when all the initial craze dies down.

Complete mess. Terrible PR for Apple. So many missed opportunities. A success, but not the monster success it should have been.

It certainly ISN'T terrible PR for Apple. There's really no such thing as negative press. It brings attention and that creates business. Look, your frustration is speaking louder than logic. So far at 1 million preorders on the first day and only in the U.S. it is INDEED a monster success and far more of a success than any other competitor.

Exactly my thought too! It seems like you'd have a large number of very upset customers if people are able to walk in and buy one, without pre-orders being filled at all.

Well, this is there dilemma now. If they have watches available in the store, a lot of people who preordered, including myself, are going to be really pissed off. But if they people lining up and they don't have any watches, the press will have a field day.

Why change something that works, especially with a new product release?

You want to create a successful product which is highly regarded, yet you try this online only ordering with a "soft" release date. This is not the time.

There is no significance of this april 24th date, besides the fact that 1% of the population will be receiving their products shipped to their door.

Most personal device yet? These people will not even be able to get help setting up, pairing and learning to use their new watch that they could spend 349-17,000$ on?

Not only this, but the fact that the watch is something that you wear. If people order online and do not go to the apple store for a try on, how are they going to know that they like the product. I hope Apple expects a EXTREMELY high return rate for this product. Many of those returns could have gone into the hands of customers waiting until June.

The apple retail employees for the most part enjoy launches and having a busy store on those days, with happy customers and the impact that they are contributing to the company.

It is very frustrating for the consumer when they are told all year that this watch will be released in Early 2015 only to receive their product 6 months into the year. There never should have been an expected release date of Early 2015. Early to most people would mean the first three months the watch will be for sale in an apple store.

There already has been people going in to purchase the new MacBook, only to find out that they are available online only.

There is only one person I can think of to thank for this very contradicting system...

How can people possibly be upset about shipping delays for a product that didn't exist before last week?

Surely their lives will be okay having to wait a while.

Not sure why the bitching, this isn't a surprise.

People are bitching because they expect apple deliver what they say they'll deliver... like being able to purchase and pick up in stores or purchasing on the "launch date" of the 24th of April..... Not sure why that's so hard for your to comprehend.

It's complete crap, they don't have these made yet. I ordered my 42 mm Space Gray and got my e-mail at 3:04 EDT 2 min after the store came up 1 min late. My ship date was 4/24 when I did apple pay, my e-mail changed to May 13th, 120 seconds from launch. Steve would have the launch in May on this product. He would not have this crap. Never was it this hard to get a device on launch day. If the watch is this hard, is the iPhone 6s+ is going to be the same? This is crap, get the things made and then launch. They know the demand is there. The launch days should be 30 days later than they are scheduled now.

Not sure what you're talking about. My iPhone 6 launch experience at the Apple Store was an utter nightmare. Sat in line for 6 hours for nothing. It was poorly organized and a total **** show. There were about 200 extremely pissed off Apple fans.
What do you think would've happened on the 24th with this supply? More waiting in line only to be disappointed by no stock.
It's much better to have pushed back ship date than to wait for hours on your Friday to find nothing available at the store... and then wait a month for your order to ship.

So ordering something online equates to bad customer service? In what universe? As far as I'm concerned having to stand in line is worst customer service. But then I'm not into the whole camping out in front of an Apple store "experience". Got better things to do with my time.

Business as usual

If this is true then it does show that Apple have made a right mess of this launch. There seems to be so much uncertainty amongst the Apple execs about production and roll out of their new product.

This is normally their forte and they have had years of experience of product launches. I am not sure how they got it so wrong....oh hang on, the one thing thats changed is the introduction of that woman, Angela.

Nice. Way to be sexist.

This has always been the case with Apple launches. That's why they give a range (4-6 weeks). It's a best practice in business to under-promise and over-deliver. That happened with our iPhone 6's and we were thrilled when they came about 2 weeks sooner than anticipated.

Whoop!!

So, if Apple's saying that customers with June shipping estimates may get their watched earlier than June, would that also imply that those with '4-6 weeks' estimates (like myself) could expect theirs earlier as well? :D

Blame all the people who said Apple couldn't sell watches the same way they sell phones, because the watch market is different. Apple believed them, and now we have THIS. It's their fault. They're the ones to blame.

At least you have a date. Consider that your own personal launch date.

To all these people saying there is no such thing as bad press, fine, but bad customer service because I can't get one on launch day is going to be the down fall. When people like me are going to say forget it, and switch to Android. Take my money elsewhere. People are getting pretty turned off by this. I'm almost there now...

I was shocked. I placed an order for the SS model with link braclet in space grey or black or whatever the color is at 1203, received email confirmation at 1205 and the delivery date is June.....WTF?? I wish they would postpone a launch date just a little later until supply and demand were a little closer.

It is always a risk on launch day because you do not know how many phones the store has, or how many of the models the people ahead of you want that you also want. If you waited 6 hours chances are most of it was when the store was closed, because the employee should have been able to tell you if they had the device you wanted in stock, and if so reserved it for you.

The problem with the watch launch would have been the amount of different models that are offered and the fact it is a new product. So apple would have limited knowledge as far as demand for a specific model.

however you could preorder what you want and try to get it on launch day, if so cancel pre order or not depending on if it was purchased. The disappointing thing is that apple should not be so limited on supply because of the shear amount of time to produce the device.
