You don’t know how much testing was actually done. You’re arguing as if apple did little if any testing, which they might have done or did years of simulations. You don’t know. Sonny Bono would have been happy to have this feature activatedin a ski slope that people want to deactivate. Apple had to adopt a wait and see attitude after this was released.

I'm not sure precisely how much testing was done but given the reports that have come out (this one and others), it doesn't sound like it was enough for this type of feature. One of your earlier comments was that you didn't think Apple would've been "surprised" by the occurrence of these false 911 calls and felt they had adopted a "wait and see attitude." Given we are talking about potential live and death situations and utilization of valuable 911/emergency resources, taking a wait and see attitude and releasing it knowing (not being surprised) something that like this could happen would be inappropriate.

As a previous poster noted, planes still fall out of the sky and we've been flying for 100 years. That is really life and death. Are you surprised planes fall out of skies? Trains derail? Self driving cars eff up? If you are not surprised at this list, then you have a cogent though process, enough to understand that introduction of any new tech needs some time in production. With planes hopefully they don't fall out of the sky. So it's my guess Apple had to adopt a wait and see attitude to what would develop and when there were reports of false positives started to collect data.

Aircraft manufacturers, train manufacturers, etc. aware of ("not surprised by") glitches that can have undesirable/unintended life and death consequences taking a "wait and see attitude" would be acting inappropriately too. In the case of Apple, it may be ok to know about a Safari glitch and wait and see how often the browser crashes but this is about life and death situations and utilization of valuable 911/emergency resources.

Sometimes there is no choice but to take “a wait and see attitude”.

The great thing is that you or I have opinions and opinions of those opinions, but apple does what they do.
