Apple is working on a restructuring of its services division to account for the departure of services executive Peter Stern, reports Business Insider. Stern, who serves as Apple's vice president of services overseeing Apple TV+, Sports, Apple News+, iCloud, Apple Fitness+, Books, Apple Arcade, and Apple One, is reportedly leaving the company.

Stern has worked for Apple for over six years, reporting to services chief Eddy Cue, and prior to that, he was the executive vice president and chief strategy officer for Time Warner Cable.

Alongside Cue, Stern has recently been involved in pursuing sports content for Apple TV+ as well handling Apple's other key services. With Stern's departure, Apple will be restructuring its services business, splitting the services unit and Stern's responsibilities into three divisions.

Stern told colleagues that he is leaving in order to spend more time on the East Coast, and he is set to depart at the end of the month. According to Business Insider, he was seen as someone who could be a possible successor to Eddy Cue in the future, taking over Apple's services division.

Apple's services category is of increasing importance to the company as it supplements device sales. In fiscal 2022, Apple's services division earned $78 billion, up $10 billion from 2021. Apple recently increased the price of both Apple TV+ and Apple Music, the former because of a growing content catalog and the latter because of increased licensing costs.

I don't know who's responsible for the Apple TV+ content and whether it's profitable but besides Servant and probably a few others, the rest is a dull mass of intentionally inoffensive content. Hopefully with a new management that would change but I highly doubt it.

Future employers take note — Peter seems to have a habit of "stepping down to pursue other interests".

Apple’s reorg has Stern‘s responsibilities being divided into three divisions.
He is leaving at month end to pursue other interests.
There’s room for interpretation.

Apple TV+ content has murder, violence, deceit, sexual themes...all of the things that many people find offensive. That being said, most of the shows aren't very good. They're not terrible, but they're missing something. I can't put my finger on it, but they're all quite dull and forgettable. I've enjoyed a few, but even the ones I've enjoyed are pretty meh compared to shows on other services.

Good! Now hopefully prices for Apple TV+, and Apple Music will be lowered in the future.
When everyone else is raising prices because the cost to create content is going up, Apple's going to go the opposite direction? 🤣

The only way you'll see a lower Apple TV+ subscription price is if Apple offers an ad supported tier.

Haven't seen Servant yet, but it's on my watch list. Currently finishing up season 2 of Ted Lasso. Now I know why there's so much positive things being said about the show. It's good. Better than I expected.

The Morning Show is another good show. Looking forward to season 3.

I mean much of the content isn’t particularly my taste either bit the stuff I have watched have been amazing. I think because the relatively small library they have you are more exposed to all of it. On other platforms I don’t even see content that’s not of interest to me and I don’t even think about it because they have much more. AlthoughApple are starting to carve out a name for being known for great quality content, they definitely still need to increase their output or acquire elsewhere.
