That would be expected else Apple could never sell such an attachment :) Now, whether or not you can charge through that wallet case is another story, and if you could, would that damage cards?

plastic cards won’t be an issue. The issue wil be with metal cards (of which both my main cards are)

With a case and three cards in a wallet attachment, it's getting thick, so I wonder about the ability to charge.

I just sandwiched my metal Prime card with a charger and phone and it didn't charge, so I guess I just confirmed for myself that metal cards are a problem. Ah well, was resigned to having to remove the attachment anyways for thickness.

i would be surprised if it would charge with the wallet attached, regardless of whether or not there were any cards in the wallet. the coils need to be right on top of one another for electricity to flow between them...

Worked fine for equivalent 3rd party cases with plastic cards but not metal

First off, will iPhone 12 (Pro Max) work with the normal Qi chargers? I thought I heard them say this in the video but wouldn't the magnets mess with non-MagSafe chargers?

Also, if I end up keeping my 11 Pro Max, will that duo charger pad work with older phones? Obviously, we won't have the magnet snap or the high speeds, but I'd be fine with normal speeds if I could use one (folding!) pad to charge my watch and phone.

fair enough but my wife has a card case on her iphoneXs and it won't charge, cards or not. maybe because it has two card pouches stacked on top of one another.

Yes it will work on older Qi devices, including the 11 Pro series.
The magnets only get in the way if there are magnets for some reason in older Qi chargers and they repel or misalign.

Tim: "I like the Magsafe idea, but how do we get people to buy these expensive, high-margin magnetic chargers?"
Joz: "We ship the iPhone without a charger and use that to convince the customer to buy the new charger when they buy the phone."

This one might actually backfire on Captain Crook, as the most expensive part about wired chargers is dealing with the freaking lightning cables that constantly die. Probably cheaper to buy a wireless charger in the long run. That is, unless they've also got some built in way they can crap out after the warranty period :p

So will the this work w/ existing magnetic car mounts? I have the Pitaki MagEZ Mount QI magnetic wireless charging in my car. I'm curious if the Magsafe back will no longer stick to the mount or if the magnet on the phone is reversed/flipped over so it will work with any existing magnetic mounts.

true. But Apple has never sold their own wallet before. And if you have to remove your card or the wallet before it can charge then this is a massive fail!
I disagree. I use the pop wallet and it's really easy to pop it off, charge the phone, and set the wallet next to the charger on my bed. Grab the phone and the wallet and put it back on in 2 seconds and off I go! This will be even faster because you just snap it back on with magnets but it also means when you get a new phone, you just pop this onto it and it's easy. It's not like wallet cases of old where you had to buy a whole new wallet case each time

I have a few different wireless chargers and I love them. For $50-60 I can charge watch and phone or multiple phones (but you can get the single chargers for like....$30?) and I feel like there's way less wear and tear plus my Android loving brother can charge too without trying to find his stupid cord lol

I'll be curious to know if the MagSafe charger works for Android too?

The PITAKA MagEZ Mount Qi has a different magnet array from the iPhone 12's, so it won't attach. However, you may use the MagEZ Case for iPhone 12. The case will stick to the wireless charging car mount, and wireless charging will work as usual.

And PITAKA is upgrading its magnetic system to work with the iPhone 12 "naked".

Thanks.

pitaka is a great company - they sent me a bunch of bezels for my iphoneX case for free when the camera bezel cracked.

How long till we get a USB-C ported MagSafe puck to allow any cable length? I like the idea of this, but the cable is only 1 meter, so I feel it kind of defeats the purpose of being able to pick up your phone while attached to the magnetic charger. You can't really use it if you have to sit 3 feet from an outlet.

Also anyone feel like MagSafe was just a nostalgia play? This charger is nice and all, but it doesn't retain the initial design goal of MagSafe - to protect your device from flinging off a table if you trip on the cord. The "Safe" part has no meaning in the name of the new MagSafe for iPhone.
