Oh no, I'm gonna have to wait hours for fedex to deliver mine and watch videos and post of everybody else who got theirs earlier by going to the store. Oh well at least I won't have to stand in line for 6 hours before they open.

Waiting to see some articles about people camping outside Apple Stores and people lining up in an infinite line to get their hands on The new iPad. It's really fun to see:D:D.

Has there been any talk of in-store stock on Apple TV. I pre-ordered my iPad but was thinking of walking into a store on Friday to grab an Apple TV since online is showing 1-2 weeks.

How early should I arrive at the Apple Store to be sure I get an iPad? 5am?
Or should I get there the night before and camp out?

Pre-ordering is the only way to go from now on.

I won't say the 14 hours of my life that I have spent waiting in various Apple product launch lines were "wasted", per se. After all, its a great time to get caught up on NPR podcasts, tidy up my website, and fraternize with other Mac cultists. Shoot, last time, the staff from the Tex-Mex joint around the corner came and handed out free drink vouchers to everyone in line (redeemable with an iPad receipt). Of course, the shopping center rent-a-cops nixed that activity as soon as they caught wind of it -I guess their Napoleon complexes were working overtime that day :-/

In any case, I'll be cooling my heels at home this time, getting work done while I wait for the FedEx girl and the real life-stealing productivity drag: my DirecTV technician.

is this confirmed for future shop stores in canada? no apple store in my city, and the workers at futureshop keep telling me they aren't sure yet.

Last year I went a couple hours early and got mine no problem. I got no beef with doing that again this year.

Out of curiosity, why didn’t you just order online?

I’m assuming some people were tied up and missed the earliest pre-orders, but even a day or so later, the shipment/delivery dates were still only a day or so further out.

I originally took the day off to wait in line. Now I am taking Friday off to patiently wait for my pre ordered 64 GB White ATT 4G and new Apple TV. Smart covers been sitting on my desk for a week...Painful, although some peeps will get theirs before mine I will enjoy quietly and comfortably waiting in my bed, instead of a fold out chair, for it to be delivered to my front door.

Comment all you want on materialism and first world problems. I am taking full advantage of the privileges.

Since you didn't order on-line, you obviously get a kick out of waiting in long lines. If I were you, I'd start camping out tonight in order to get the most out of the opportunity. Who knows, you might even get a 2 second spot on TV.

I just did order online, backordered 2 to 3 weeks now, rather than just a day or two. (I wasn't going to get the new one, but then some unexpected money fell into my lap allowing me to justify splurging on it to replace my iPad 1st Generation.)

I considered trying Target, Radio Shack, but it is a crapshoot, and the nearest applestore is 5 hours away, and I need to get applecare+ at the same time. I am not sure if anyone but apple will offer applecare+.

if I buy applecare+ later I have to have the genius verify the iPad before I can activate it, which I can't do without a long day trip. (This verification is not needed if you buy applecare+ from apple at the same time as the iPad.)

Wow

Now I'm waiting for the article:
"First Customer receives his "the new iPad"." :)
(Technically it's name is "the new iPad". So i wrote it on purpose this way.)

With the pre-order opportunity, I cant see how the lines would be crazy at the apple store. I wanted to pre-order but they don't take apple gift cards in Canada. I had 2 days to pre-order with delivery dates between Mar 16-20. Other than the issue I have, why would anyone who will buy outright want to wait and go to the store.

I'm going to the Coconut Point Apple Store in Estero, FL. I hope they are opening at 8:00am. The store normally opens at 10:00am. When I called I was told they didn't know yet what time they opening the store in Friday.

See you there!

Have you ever waited before at this store? How crowded do the launches get?

Lining up overnight for a chance at "new iPad" is the manifestation of growing idolatry and materialism, which just shows how shallow our society is becoming...
Anyone lining up to scalp an iPad is simply taking advantage of a solid business opportunity.
The truth is often unpopular.

Or there are just some who enjoy/get a kick out of doing it occasionally. I'm and engineer , with wife and kids so it's not like its something I do often , and be it back for Star Wars tickets back in 99 (I saw the original opening in theaters also) or something like this , it's fun for some to sit all night under a nice night sky , in a comfortable chair , and shoot the breeze with fellow folks that 99.99% of the time are friendly , there for their own enthusiasm and enjoy the experience also.

I know it's shocking to to some of you who like to be negative all the time on message boards (I miss the BBS days , wasnt that way then) , but there are plenty of folks who simply see it as a fun experience without any deep nefarious meaning to it nor a "sign of the times".

People once camped out for concert to football tickets to big games , and enjoyed the social experience , and in my town there likely will be at least 2-3 hundred at the minimum lined up at the Apple store which is in a nice outside Mall location , low of 70 degrees that night forcasted , and many will bring food , music etc and have almost a party atmosphere with folks enjoying a night of talking that many don't get to do very often.

Horrible isn't it , that some enjoy escaping from the normal routine and enjoy a night of being around others with like minded interests and meeting all sorts of new folks normally wouldnt ever have experience to do.

Some of you just need to get a grip. It's not a "sign of the times" nor is society becoming worst or different , folks spents days in line in the 70's for certain concerts , and I dare say it's a more enjoyable experience for some than spending hours f5 refreshing to then wait for the fedex truck all day to sign for the package , to me anyway it is.

The truth hurts for those who can't understand many simply enjoy the experience.
