The truth hurts for those who can't understand many simply enjoy the experience.

A lot of people seem to WANT TO SEE PEOPLE UNHAPPY, because their lives are. They don't like to see people having fun doing seemingly mundane things like standing in line.

Out of curiosity, why didn’t you just order online?

I’m assuming some people were tied up and missed the earliest pre-orders, but even a day or so later, the shipment/delivery dates were still only a day or so further out.

Personally, I like going to an Apple Store and physically handing over the money to receive my iPad rather than it just showing up on my porch. Plus, I think it'd be fun to wait in line with other people who love Apple.

That’s cool. I was genuinely curious about folks hitting up the store vs. online (and I figured it was the experience or missing the opp for an early pre-order).

I _think_ my wife ordered me one for my birthday, but if she did, I’m not sure when she ordered, so when/if I see one is a total mystery :D (I did mention, white, 32GB, Wifi ... several times ... :) )

@Inakto "...Lining up overnight for a chance at "new iPad" is the manifestation of growing idolatry and materialism, which just shows how shallow our society is becoming..."

Or there are just some who enjoy/get a kick out of doing it occasionally. I'm and engineer , with wife and kids so it's not like its something I do often , and be it back for Star Wars tickets back in 99 (I saw the original opening in theaters also) or something like this , it's fun for some to sit all night under a nice night sky , in a comfortable chair , and shoot the breeze with fellow folks that 99.99% of the time are friendly , there for their own enthusiasm and enjoy the experience also...

What's really funny to me, is the guy (lady?) posting how 'shallow our society is becoming' while plugging three apps, one called chicken grab (ROFL)...could be a guy promoting his own effort to further how shallow our society is while adding to growing materialism...or..could just be (via my wanna be stand up friends) a lonely soul one sandwich short of a picnic.

Most amusing to me is this picture they often paint of just a line of scalpers. Again , they are usually less than 1% of the lines I've been in over the years just as they were long ago.

It's mainly enthusiasts , and often over half I'd say are over 30 working adults who just enjoy talking the talk with lots of other folks they wouldnt ever meet.

That social experience thing just stumps some people I know.

In other news, tens of thousands of employees around the country are going to develop a mysterious cough on Thursday night...

Those that are thinking of camping best check w/ mall security first to find out what their policy is. Some malls do not allow overnight camping & only allow once doors open for the day - usually @ dawn.

I'm already on my line....my office chair. I can work all day for the next 3 1/2 days and one will just come right to me. It's a magical and revolutionary new way to wait on line!

As an appetizer, my smart cover arrived today. My iPad 1 looks a little nervous.... ;)

Anyone lining up to scalp an iPad is simply taking advantage of a solid business opportunity.
The truth is often unpopular.

People get excited about things. Just because it's not important FTP one person doesn't mean it isn't to others. I can't imagine how irritating it must be to get in your car everyday knowing back in the day people got excited about new automotive technology

Thank god i orded 2 ipad one for me and one to sell to one of my friends for a slighty high price the i payed for it......hey i told him to preorder

My reason for in store pick up.

I am picking up mine at the local Best Buy Friday morning. I would have ordered it online however I honestly wasn't going to buy one at all but my mom decided she wanted to buy my iPad 2 from me and let me use the money for the new one.

That was Sunday. Monday morning came. I went to order it online. DUHOOOO!!!! 2 to 3 weeks shipping!
Looks like I'll be waiting in line!

This looks pretty official. So will it be available from 8am in the UK to? Hope so, I was not able to pre order and have work at 3pm on the 16th. Anyone any clues?

Actually, he's a well established tech writer. And you really can't see his point?

I really wonder how many the Apple stores are going to have. I would hate to wait in line and they run out

Gotta line up now!

Heading off to the UTC Apple Store to line up for the NiP and be part of Apple's formidable media manipulation machine. Oops, I forgot I pre-ordered one on line so I can sleep in and avoid the bullsheet. I expect its arrival by 10am or so on the 16th, just like my iPad2 and iPhone 4 were.

This is exactly correct, I wait in line for all the new iPhones & iPads (I'm 46) it's a great experience every time. I also pre-ordered my 4S and the new iPad, it will be here friday and I'll still go wait in line to get a couple more for family, and simply for the experience!

Think that's new and insightful? Watch"A Charlie Brown Christmas"

And it was old then.

anyone doing in store pick up?

i'm hoping i can walk in and walk out in minutes without waiting in any line:)

i am. im all about instant gratification, so i will be heading over to the 5th ave flagship in NYC before work. i called them, they said that as long as it was preordered, i wouldnt have to wait on line with the common folk :p

I read that people were already starting to line up as of this morning. I ordered online this time around. The scalpers will not get one minute of my time waiting in line behind those a holes.
