Ah, women.

My favorite of God's creatures. So many colors, so many shapes, so many sources of brilliance and inspiration.

I'm glad you're finally starting to get the recognition you deserve, and can't wait for the day you stand on equal footing with us men in the eyes of all.

Because THAT is the truth.

And I'm glad you get a day other than Mother's Day (which obviously may not apply to many) to celebrate your greatness.

To those here objecting to such "pandering", I say this: there's nothing wrong with celebrating greatness. We got 365 days, so we can spend all year celebrating what makes each culture, race, ethnic group, gender, etc. worthy of admiration.

It is diversity that makes us great. Baskin & Robbins would suck if it had only one flavor. And no one is trying to discontinue your favorite (well, except for the flavor-fascists that only want us to have Vanilla).

That's not the case. As a straight white male, no one has ever credited me for anything mostly. Especially not when you are 5'6". Truth is, in a western society women are the most privileged and protected. It's all about women here, women there, black people here, black people there, same goes for gay and trans people and minorities. Please focus on the real issues. We are all equal, no need to feel entitled.

I'm not saying you are, but many others definitely are.

You're not the first (white) person I've heard express that sentiment.

It is interesting to me how those that think like you have arrived at that mentality.

The reason for the recognition is because inequality exists, otherwise there'd be no need to bring it up.

And given that, at least in the US (for starters) white males have been, are, and will probably will continue to be in positions of power and influence, your complaints about equality should be directed at them who have kept, keep, and want to continue to keep people separate.

So we're doing you a favor by letting you know we're not there yet. We want what you want, for all of us to be equal.

Point your indignation in the right direction and stand WITH US.

For what it’s worth brother, I think the tide will turn. It seems in history there’s always a period of intolerance that’s acceptable for a short period of time before there’s a push back and people realize it’s not right. It’s so weird seeing people decry racism while being racist towards whites and Asians for example. I believe this point in history will be looked back on as a “what the hell were we thinking” moment. It might be awhile, but someday we will realize fighting racism with more racism was a terrible tactic and only served to divide people more.
The tide will turn to what, exactly?

This has become a vicious circle: I get mistreated, so I mistreat. It's pure human nature, just like abusive parents were probably abused, and will likely create kids that abuse their children. Or a rape victim that ends up (understandably) hating men (or women).

The way to break the cycle is not anger, it's love. It's acknowledgment, it's acceptance, and it's owning up to our individual and collective mistakes. It's humility and courage. It's saying yes, we frakked up. Let's not fight, let's FIX this.

We cannot keep sweeping this garbage mentality under the rug, we have to throw it out. Black, white, gay, straight, trans, asian, muslim, catholic, male, female...we're all brothers and sisters.

Those that think otherwise are infected with lies.

Whatever you may think of him, there was a guy a long time ago that "cracked it": Do unto others as you'd like others to do unto you.

Well, I stewed about the negative comments overnight. Frankly I'm ashamed for those that just don't get the strength diversity brings to the table. One can argue talent, is talent, but I can't help but feel people's experiences, including gender don't form the basis for art.

Yes, it's not like i woke up one day and thought: Well, i'm a short straight white male, so i must be seen as less. No, i just realized how a part of our society treats us like we are second-class. Maybe taller men have it easier in life, but most of the things a (straight) white man does is simply taken for granted, while others are being celebrated for it. But as a white man you do not really get to criticize that, because you are a racist or sexist then. I'm not like that. I'm not trying to be more than someone else, i just want to be treated equally. Often, but not always, i had to prove myself first in order to be properly respected, while other people with a different gender or genetics (let it be skin color or height, doesn't matter) get all that for free from the very beginning.

And to those who say that respect has to be earned: Yes, but everyone deserves a basic level of respect, no matter how they look like. Meaning that you don't discriminate or mock someone.

It also wasn't my intention to push the topic towards height. It's well known that shorter men have it more difficult when it comes to Dating and Jobs. But i'm not here to complain about that. A tall white man is still a white man. Just because some white males have mis-used their power in the past (and do it now), not everyone would do that, not everyone is the same. It makes me sick and tired when i read stuff like: "All men are evil". (Posted by hurt women, as usual). Some are really trying to demonize us, and they are the ones privileged, because they get away with it.

It's a shame how some people actually think that basically every (straight) white male has it much easier in basically every aspect of life. Some inequality will always exist. Maybe men earn more than their female counterparts sometimes for example, and it think it's wrong to adjust paychecks based on gender, so i also support Equal Pay, as long as both work the same position. If i see actual discrimination against women or black people or other minorities, i will stand up for them, if it's possible. But they wouldn't do that for me i'm sure, because i'm a white man, so why am i even complaining?

But still, my life could be much, much worse so i'm not trying to complain about it too much. Think about all the homeless people. Many kids are dying from starvation every single day. In many places around the world women and minorities are actually being discriminated and have less rights, but i really don't see that in countries like the US. Especially not when it comes to women, again, most admired and protected.

Please don’t pay attention to any of this “privilege “ nonsense.

Live your life, be kind to people and don’t pay attention to any of these raving lunatics screaming about “privilege.”

pssssttt....they’re crazy. Shhh.

I really wish that for once MEN would be credited for all their hard work.
We are. It’s called the salary gap.

You know these appreciation days had to be signed off on by white men before they could happen, right? It’s a way to keep women and minorities in check while we make all the money. It’s a way to avoid actual equality while putting on the face of equality.

Question: Would you rather have more money or an appreciation day? You can only pick one.

If being white, heterosexual, and male is a recipe for status, then logically, the polar opposite—a black gay female—must be the most disenfranchised demographic on the planet. Yet, she was the Creative Director at one agency with male staff and owners.

I suspect the self-deprecating white straight males who empathize with “victims of institutional norms” are transferring their own frustrations with competition.

Truth is, in a western society women are the most privileged and protected.

I live in Germany and women are far from being treated equally. May it be financially, culturally or legally.

Male politicians can show off their 10K Rolex and people are like how classy. A female politician showed off a Rolex and people went nuts. It was her dream to own one since she grew up being poor and the big news were roasting her.

Or I remember when the parliament discussed the topic of rape in the marriage and all the old politicians were giggling and saying"oh you can't punish the husband raping his wife just like any other criminal raping a random woman"! Oh and let me quote myself from a previous post about equal pay:

My wifes brother is a headhunter for a huge german company and he was openly admitting to us that he is offering women around 20% less then men. For real. Why? Because he can. Most other companies do the same. He fears that a women will one day have a baby and leave for a year or two. This causes problems for the company to go find a replacement yet keep a place for her. Of course officially they don't do this. This is what he just told us in private, like sorry sis, but you would have never gotten that much in my company.

So much for being privileged.

straight white man bad.......good grief...just stop it.

I am a straight white man, and I am not bad. I just don't have it as hard as my wife or my black friend or my gay coworker.

Don't think in extremes. Its not that all white straight males have it better in every aspect of life. But generally we have way easier lives. Surely we have problems to bring food home and the everyday struggle too but being black for example means having the same problems and trying not to be shot every day on top of that.

There is no such thing as white privilege. Period.

I get it. It's hard to understand the concept of color (no pun intended) when you were born blind. And even harder to explain to the sightless.

It is my love, respect, appreciation, and admiration for women that still gets me PLENTY of attention in my day, gets me luck every night, and has allowed me to remain married for 22 years and raise 4 children, one of which is a teenage girl.

Interesting how some of you think it a sign of weakness. In my day, I hunted, but not for thots, but women of substance.

I found the right one, and ringed 'er in. The yang to my yin. I fear too many of you will never know the feeling of coming home from work and having your spouse genuinely giddy to see you, and reciprocate in kind. It is a feeling of contentment few experience (given divorce rates).

You don't know what you're talking about, son.

Women like men who respect them. Who pay attention, worship them, regale them with presents, who look good for them, who ROCK them in the sack, AND who are strong. Prince didn't look or act strong, though, and he got PLENTY of women.

Please don’t pay attention to any of this “privilege “ nonsense.

No, they're not crazy. OK, some are.

But I must say, if you're white, ENJOY IT, homey.

Just don't let it go to your head like THOSE guys. And don't let the idiots on the other side, ahem, color your perception in a negative way.

As you said, be kind to people. ALL people.

And put people in power that are ALSO kind to ALL people. If you do that, you're good, and we'll finally put these issues to rest.

I'm 5'6 too. I'm black. I'm Hispanic. I'm not from the continental US. English is not my first language. I'm a Veteran. I'm a Protestant from a primarily Catholic country.

It'd be nice to be discriminated against by height alone.

But seriously, I feel you man. Everyone is getting discriminated against. The problem is that both historically and, as a result, currently some are discriminated against more than others because they fall in a category different than those in power and influence.

BUT, one thing does not justify the other or make it any less. Discrimination and hate are wrong in ALL instances, whether you fall into one category or like me, well, more.

So what I'm saying is that if you feel you've been discriminated against, you should stand shoulder to shoulder with ANYONE who has been discriminated against. What's bad for some of us is bad for ALL of us.

MLK nailed it in his speech; we all need to join hands, and together fight the ones in charge that want to keep us separated, subjugated, and "in our place".

It just so happens that for the ENTIRETY of the existence of the USA, they have been white. But I'm not concerned with their race, I'm concerned with their MIND.

I don't want an all female, all black, all asian, all lesbian, all trans, or all white USA. I want a FREE USA.

I want EVERYONE to be free to worship who they want (or no one at all), marry who they want, hang out with who they want, speak the language they want (so long as they also speak English), eat what they want (so long as it doesn't harm humans), listen to the music they want (Tool is my favorite band...trust me I get flak for that from all sides), dress the way they want, drive what they want, etc. WITHOUT FEAR.

I wasn't born blind. I just have worked hard, and am well educated. It would have actually been significantly easier for me in life if I wasn't white and male. We are the last to get priority and opportunities and have to work harder because places put quotas on employees. Shouldn't you just be able to hire the best. Sorry if most of them would happen to be white. It's just the way it is.

How do you KNOW that it would've been easier? Like, for sure? How could you? Did you go undercover like Tootsie? Did you wear blackface and an afro wig for a job interview?

My point regarding color was that because you are white and male, you will NEVER experience things from a female, or asian, or black perspective.

There are programs in place to combat discrimination for a reason. Because although many of my fairer skinned brothers and sisters actually want equality (like you supposedly do), there are still too many that don't.

It's not about them (or you) being white. It's about the fact that there is no way to look and a person and know whether or not they're racists.

But you CAN look at the demographics. Hard data. In a company of 500, you're complaining about the 10 or 20 jobs that the law had to FORCE the company to fill with non-whites. You can tell me that the "right persons for the job" are being hired when the companies exceed the mandates. You're complaining about BET, when you have ABC, NBC, CBS, the CW, CMT, GAC, FOX, etc. Just like the Prez who whined about a foreign movie winning best picture for the first time after a century of them LOSING.

Take a look at the numbers my friend. Hell, take a look at a photo of Congress, or college campuses, or movie and TV show casts, or comic books, or ANY major organization. It's a sea of white.

Granted, whites are the majority in this country, but it's not even close to proportionate yet. And because you are the majority, we need your help to fix this. I want what you want: for the color of my skin to be as significant as the color of my eyes. For only the content of a resume and my skill to be judged. For the government to NOT have to step in, because there are racists in power.

And (to bring this back on topic) Apple celebrating women for one day is a step towards that. Tim's white and male too, you know. He doesn't even like women (that way). But the fact that he's been discriminated against for who (or what?) he is, means he GETS it.

Ever been called “not a man” because of your height by “tolerant” people?
[automerge]1582589199[/automerge]

I used to think this statement was utterly ridiculous until I started reading up and experiencing some of it myself. Anybody wondering how true this is, go on YouTube and look up “evergreen school incident”. An almost riot happened at a school local to me because everybody was convinced all white men were evil. This is crazy times

Lemme be clear, and do something most of my white brothers refuse to do:

I believe you. You ARE being discriminated against.

Welcome to the American experience. Racism is now an equal-opportunity purveyor of STUPID.

It both angers me and breaks my heart when I hear of a white person joining the Ku Klux Klan because they were bullied in school by black people. I don't blame the white person for that, I blame the bullies. Those who have been victimized SHOULD KNOW BETTER. It just feeds the circle of hate.

But no one cares. It's easier to just join your group where you're safe. Where your perceptions are validated. Regardless of race. You were victimized, so now it's ok to victimize others. That mentality is pure BS.

The ROOT of the problem is not white people, or black people, or men, or women. Skin color and/or gender have NOTHING to do with it.

The ROOT of the problem lies in DELUDED people that swallowed the notion that behavior and the amount of melanin in your skin (or what's between your legs) are somehow connected.

The root of the problem is bad ideas and how they spread. That old quote “people don’t have ideas, ideas have people” come to mind.

problem is the way we are teaching things. New disciplines have popped up in gender studies and social justice that don’t teach nuance. They teach about “power structure dynamics” and how “white people are evil”. If you think that’s hyperbole, you haven’t researched this enough. It’s downright scary. We should be taught about introspection and understanding bias, but when it comes to “all people of X race are evil. Fight them” no. This is amother racist idea that needs to be stomped out.

im not a trump supporter. I’m somewhere in the middle, but I can completely see why he got elected. I’m currently reading a book called “from Democrat to deplorable. Why 9 million Obama voters voted for trump” and it’s enlightening. culture right now is in a weird place and there has been a push back against this racism that supposedly switched focus from one group to another. Just look at the comments here. do you think these people are Crazy? Or maybe there’s something to it?

All racism is bad. We should all be able to agree with that. Where we go after that is where a lot of us disagree

Whites are discriminated against probably even more than any other race. It all comes down to presentation. Equality is what we should all want. Women more than have it now. The problem with most black people is that they want equality, which they should have, but they also want preferential treatment at the same time. Can't have both. One negates the other. That's why affirmative action is the biggest farce out there.

When will straight men get some praise or a day for themselves?

I watch my cisgender white male husband bust his arse almost every day of the week. He's my hero.

I'm not "woke" and I'm perfectly okay with that.

I just wish that more people would praise others for their daily struggle, especially when they work hard because they have a family to feed. Right now, no one seems to care unless someone does something extraordinary. It's all taken for granted. But i heard that everyday is the "straight white male" day. Maybe that's true for some rich guy with status or a politician, but not for the average Joe working his ass off. Why do i think that's only fair for white men? Because others (people of color, females etc...) also get their credit for exactly those everyday things. White men don't, it's taken for granted.

Yes. Equality is now reached, atleast in western countries, thank god. Now they want to have privileges just because of their gender / skin color. I see alot of women do that.

For example:

"I'm female, i'm so great. I'm female, i'm special. I'm more than you white man, don't you dare." This is the attitude of many, sadly. Especially that "feminism" movement, which is a movement by women for women. It focuses on women alone. This has nothing to do with equalness, otherwise it would not be called "feminism". What about "Masculinism", does that imply equalness? Nope. I will always support equality between the genders, but not biased and privileged treatment towards a certain skin color or gender.

But they are the victims, sure. They do the exact same thing they accuse us of. Not all of course, but many. Too many.

Just look at the Twitter trends when the International Men / Women's Day takes place:

Women's Day --> OMG yes, women are so great, praise them.

Men's Day --> Privileged, only celebrating themselves.

See the issue?

You were victimized, so now it's ok to victimize others. That mentality is pure BS.

Exactly this. This is exactly what we need to understand.

Black people have been discriminated in the past, so now it's ok to discriminate white people, or atleast to blame them for everything.

Females have been suppressed in the past, so now it's ok to bash white men, and to think females are more privileged just because of their gender.

LOL. Yea, no. Whites are the majority. And they're the majority in most if not all positions of power and influence. Ending discrimination is on them.

I already explained in an earlier post why affirmative action is necessary. It's not preferential treatment, it's forcing white people in charge to do the right thing.

But I'm tired of arguing at this point, so I'm dropping it. Those who get it, get it. Ok, I'll argue a little more. :)

But what you need to understand is that white males started the cycle, but don't want to take responsibility for it.

There is a difference between offensive and defensive discrimination. De-escalation is in the VICTIMIZER'S hands.

There have been few instances where white people have been like: "man, what happened to you in the past is messed up. What's STILL happening to you because of my own people that don't get it is messed up. We want to join you in changing this".

I have encountered such situations at a personal level though. I have white male and female friends who understand that yes, their ancestors and some of their contemporaries have and continue to screw people over.

The situation today is caused by outrage at the length of time it's taken to fix this.

However, having said that, we are now entering the OVERREACTION phase, which is what I think you and those that think like you are complaining about.

I honestly don't know how this will get resolved. But getting rid of the mechanisms put in place to make sure that the majority does the right thing is NOT it.
