I don't see how :apple: can produce enough to supply other countries when it can't even satisfy demand at home. It would be best to maybe delay the shipment to other countries another month so they can have more time to stock inventory to make it a decent release. Maybe even till June and have both an iPad and iPhone double feature release.

So to sum up:"I don't care what the facts are,I will never admit the iPad is a roaring success."

He fails to see that the iPad was more than a netbook computer was no more than than a small computer.. . and not seeing that the iPad is a net appliance that has been in the offering for a long time - but short in coming...

Netbooks are dead except for those few that need access to full programs....

Hmm..

I got my defective iPad replaced today. They didn't have any in stock for replacements so they gave me a brand new one.

I saw quite a few iPads coming out from the back to be sold.

So that means that they did have new ipads in the store

Yep. I was scared I would have been out of luck when he said they didn't have any replacements in stock. I'm glad he arranged it so we did an exchange AND they had 3G units in stock.

It was funny.. I originally went in bc video was freezing. They did not want to give me a new one for that bc they insisted it was software (which is incorrect). But right when I mentioned the dead pixel they gave me a new one. Oh well... Works for me. No dead pixels or freezing video on this one. :)

Thanks, let me help you to sum up yours:
"I don't care what the facts are,I will never admit the iPad is a roaring failure."

To chime in, let me sum both of your posts up:
"We both don't have a f_ing clue, what the iPad is!"

It doesn't matter, if the iPad is a success saleswise. A million sold is statement enough. If only 5% of that million translate into constant media consumption via Apple channels,, Apple has 50,000 people to milk regularly.

The iPad is a catalyst for iTunes sales (be it music, videos or the new eBooks) and therefore 'controlled user base'. I find the iTunes EULA getting more and more offensive with each iteration (just read, what information YOU are willing to give Apple).

And that's the most offensive thing with the iPad. I don't like any big company having so much control. That's why I hated MS in the early years of the decade (bully tactics on IE), that's why I currently hate Google and that's why I'm starting to hated my formerly beloved Apple.

I have been going crazy trying to find one for my mom for mothers day- but I keep coming up short everywhere i try. :( does anyone know someplace near new york that has them? ill travel hours for her so she can open it on sunday.

I'm now on a reserve list at 5th Ave. It's a one week wait at least. Each time they come in they go out to those who reserved.

Im on the list there too. my constant trips to the 24 hour store, ive become friendly with some of the overnight staff. They all have said they arent even getting them in. But they keep telling me to come back and check in. They have no reason to lie to me.
Apple! Send the ipad to your flagship stores at least!!!!!! :(

And Wall Street analysts thought this thing wouldn't sell...

Not just them. Quite a few tools on this forum were blahblahing their majestic ignorance to the enthusiasm for ANY netbook / tablet competition by Apple last year.

GROWS means they do not sell more than before, but they sale as much as before and it is very healthy 8 mil/month volume.

Where did you pull this number out from?

I got an educated guess...

According to IDC, manufacturers collectively moved 4.8 million netbooks for the first 3 months period 2010.

businessweek.com

As a matter of fact, for the whole year 2009, netbook sales number was 30 million something. A great number nonetheless but nowhere near your 8 mil/month alternative universe.

I read it in some publication a while ago. I do not remember exactly the origin, but it mentioned netbook sales was 85mil units for 2009. Considering it is still growing - it is fare for me to assume netbook sales about 8 mil/month on average. BTW, the beginning of the year is not the strongest months for sales.

BTW, thank you for digging this info out.

There is no war between netbooks and iPads. It only exists in some folks heads...

It is free country, people will buy what suites them best!

Trying my luck again

I will be trying my luck again with going to an Apple store. So far, very limited stock and none have been in supply for the model(s). I want. I am torn between a 32gb 3g or a 64gb wifi only. that is all my wallet can afford (since they are close to the same price). While I like the idea of 3g and always being connected.... I also remember with my laptop, that it is wifi only (I don't have a 3g dongle). But a lot of these apps require internet, so I think 3g is the better way to go.

16 gb is too small for my needs, 32gb would barely meet my needs, 64 gb far exceeds my current needs. I was holding out for a 64gb 3g, but does not look like it is going to happen.

While I have an iphone, I am worried about the 27 apps I already have that are ipad only apps, and them needing internet connection to work. Not having 3g is not a problem while I am at home (heck my area is edge only); but if I travel and hotel wifi is limited or expensive - then it might be an issue (but then again I do have my iphone).

Does anyone know if you can tether the iphone with the ipad using bluetooth?

Oh be quiet. I'm calling you out on your outlandish claims. I could be wrong but you are wrong. And you are using your wrong number to make iPad's 1 million milestone seem less significant.

Numbers are just numbers, there are numbers of ways to interpret them. Take the netbook sales growth numbers, it's true it haven't turned negative, but if the trend continues, there is a pretty big chance the minus sign will show up in next 3 months. Let's sit back and contemplate the known facts: Netbook began to gain traction not until summer 2008, it exploded over the holiday season that year and the growth continued through out the whole year 2009, but at the beginning of 2010 something rather odd happened to this nascent niche. The growth simply gone, very unexpected. And it's not just market saturation either because the PC industry as a whole grown 30% 10Q1, netbook is starting to fall behind! So here is the fact: the netbook run only lasted about 1.5 year; it never made much profit for any of the PC vendors; intel's bottomline was hit by Atom's popularity as well; and the preliminary data shows it did not mature gracefully a la iPod.

Indeed we are all free to choose what we see fit for ourselves, and it is entirely plausible to hold your opinion disregarding what everybody else says or for that matter, facts. No law against stubbornness or stupidity, right? But as the world turns disregarding your belief as well, can I humbly suggest you choose your battle wisely and just shut up for the time being until supporting data start to show?

I'll just leave it there.

Pretty obvious from AT&T's reneging on iPhone tethering that they simply can't handle any more additional traffic on their network. Your only option, since you're using an iPhone, is to jailbreak it and allow tethering cause the evil emperor(ATT) will not let you, willingly. Good luck, young Jedi.

same, thats why im thinking of jailbreaking, but only when we get to 4.0, because then i wont have to have a load of jailbreaking apps like winterboard and multi-tasking apps, but with 4.0 i only have to have miwi, so its less likely to mess up, becuase wniterboard usally messes up :(

You don't have to use winterboard, if you JB on 3.x

And you don't have to install backgrounder if you don't like, although it is very handy occasionally.

IMHO a JB iPhone is a MUCH better device than a non-JB iPhone.

And to answer the OPs question: With MyWi on a JB iPhone you can tether your iPad via WiFi over your iPhone, thus no need for an 3G iPad.

Tried 6 Apple stores in DC area this Saturday. No 3G iPads at all. 7-10 days waiting list. :(
