in other words: in future we will get same s**t, but fancy wrapped. Exclusively at those iFruit stores.

We are a manufacturer of custom systems. This morning I got a call from a customer who we'd shipped to last week. He could not make it run. After debugging it with him for a few minutes I realized that he had logged in as User not Administrator. The instructions say 1: Power on system. 2: Log on as Administrator using **** as the password. We had taped a copy of this page from the manual to the keyboard so he could not miss it. But he did.

Yep, I also do custom systems too, and I get similar things daily - along with people who just ask the most incredibly ridiculous pre-sales questions. I've started collected them in Evernote to entertain people with.

Would I sound foolish for thinking that Apple retail stores have become almost too upmarket? I know, high standards are something that every company aspires for, but to me they're just so sterile and unfriendly (that applies to both the staff and the surroundings).

I'm from U.K - would love to hear others thoughts.

When the Apple Stores first launched, they were far more diverse and interesting... play areas with bean-bag chairs and iMacs for kids, theatres, regular training classes. While my own personal experience of visiting an Apple Store is extremely limited (only once to a mall-based store), I can't help but feel that they've lost some of that personal touch and are focusing too much on simplification, to the point of blandness. M'i'right?

Why do all of the NY stores look so much classier than the LA ones. All we get is high ceilings and lots of glass.

Apple is constantly redesigning and refining their stores, and some need to fit into the neighbourhood. This (the photo shown) is just one store in an up-scale neighbourhood, and they designed the store to fit in with the existing architecture. It really depends on where at and what the store is located in that determines the final design.

This woman, being simultaneously ignored by 2 employees, and being checked out by the other 2...

That's right before they opened.

Im glad you admitted you'll have problems as it adds to my point. I know a lot of parents and grandparents in the UK will too. Luckily i read evything so hopefully I won't make a mistake.

Jeeze!… The irony!

I had the same thought (NYC). I don't think Apple will try to replicate the 5th Av store exactly. Apple has done really well with their upper-middle-class aspirational position, but I think they hurt the brand a bit with the Edition watches by trying to go too upmarket. I have a 38mm Sport and the most common comment I get is: "whoa, wasn't that really expensive?" like I'm Mr. Conspicuous T. Moneybags here. The message that a lot of (normal, non-fan) people heard was "Apple Watches cost thousands of dollars".

So this is supposed to be the Future of Apple Stores, I hope not.
Once the wrapper becomes more important than the product you are pandering to the 14K Gold Watch Customer who don't want mix with the Pleb. Its there for the Versace Customer wo spends more on a bag than the Average Person brings home on a month Pay after Taxes, and there are not enough of them to sustain a Technical Product. But you want to keep those People happy So you create a Invite only Store where the Invite dosen't realise that some one pushed the Buzzer so that the Door opened so that they can visit the Magic Kingdom. We will get the occasional picture, and the Normal Apple Stores with the Normal Packaging.
The Problem is when you start to have Products whose Merit is no longer evident. Sort of like the Apple Cube a lovely peace of Industry art, with a Elegant Opening & Closing Mechanism, Pressure damped and all, But how often are you really going to need that. And now If you bought one at the Time you might even have a Collectors item. The Same thing with the Apple Watch. Its going to be a collectors Item, A Product that allows you to keep your € 800 iPhone hidden with a €1400 Watch so that you can make a Dick Tracy Phone call. So we who are Passionate about are Apple Products knowing what we have had in the Past have to hope that Apple will get ist act together and create a mainstream product that more than a few can afford.
We will have to wait an see.

Good grief. Apple is just working with some third parties on product packaging. No need to overreact or read things into it.

When has an Apple Store ever looked that empty?
Of merchandise..or people? It seems they are carrying less and less product. Too sterile for me. Maybe Angela is pushing for more online sales. If I am in the mood to maybe decide that I do want that Mac Pro, I want to make sure I have the option to go pick it up and not wait for shipping. Too much 'designer' influence IMHO.

I think they have become a lot like dixons etc with staff waiting to pounce on customers. I always thought the ideal was customers can have a play and do stuff on their own and not be pounched on a minute or two into the store like theyre being sold something.
Worse than Dixons. Now they wait at the door to greet you, not a minute or two into the visit.

It’s partly because it’s thought that we/they don’t need/read instructions. Everything these days is designed to just pick up and use. The biggest culprits - Apple devices.

Wow, now I will be able to get one of those highly over priced iPhone chargers in a fancy Apple box!

I'd prefer these accessories are not mistaken as apple accessories!

With the logo of the manufacturer present on the front of any packaging (see article photos showing "Logitech" and "Mophie" how would you think these are Apple-manufactured products?

I know many people who have no idea that "mophie" or "Logitech" are brands, people that come into an Apple Store don't even know the difference between an MacBook and MacBook Pro , they just call it an apple laptop.

No the problem is your assertion that others (other than yourself, of course) will have trouble reading a box and interpreting a photograph and walk out with a set of ear buds rather than an iPad keyboard.

well doesn't this highlight the problem ;)

let me correct you a little here

No the problem is your assertion that others (other than yourself, of course) will have trouble reading a box and interpreting a photograph and walk out with a set of ear buds from another manufacturer rather than apples own ear buds.

see the problem, see how its even highlighted many times by you in this topic.

I'm all for anything that gets rid of that heat sealed plastic cocoon thing that needs a plasma cutter to get into, that a lot of stuff comes in these days.
