You can always preorder and, once you have it in hand, you know if you want to keep it or not. If not, just return to Apple in less than 14 days. Apple knows they really don’t have to have them in store before the date of purchase.
Except a lot of us aren’t going to go through all that hassle. I don’t want to buy it only to find out I don’t want it, and have to make a second laborious trip all the way to the Apple Store to return it.

I just won’t buy it at all and Apple will simply miss out on that sale.

All I know is I'm very conflicted this year on which to get; the Pro or Pro Max. I'm usually a Pro guy because of the weight but if they are titanium and the weight is reduced, I may get the Pro Max.

Also depends on the price increase as well.

This isn’t what this article is directly about, but does anyone know how Apple manages to load such a near-complete version of the new iOS version onto their devices for launch? It’s usually one that slightly precedes the GM from what I remember, which seems very close to launch. Do they have some method to make them wake up and grab a software update within the box? Are the first ones really only packaged a couple of weeks before they are in the hands of consumers?

I don't recall them ever doing an "available today" announcement on their Phones, perhaps the base iPhone 15 update is so minimal that it won't even cause a ripple!

I can't remember where I read the article about it, but it was something along the lines that Apple installs a proprietary utility on the phones that waits for some type of signal/command, and then packages them. Later they broadcast out the firmware and it installs on all the devices all at once while in storage.

Yeah but the 14 Pro series was back ordered for weeks last year and in-store stock would disappear literally within minutes of it showing up for like the first month. I pre-ordered the 14 Pro and decided to switch to the Pro Max once I had the 14 Pro, and it took me days of nonstop stock checking and a Mac app that gives you in-stock alerts to be able to get the 14 Pro Max model I wanted, and I still had to drive an hour to get it. It took me so long to get the model that I literally returned my 14 Pro on the last day of the return window because I couldn’t get my 14 Pro Max any sooner.
Yeah, if I were in that position, I’d order both and return the one I don’t want. Fortunately for me, as of Sept. 12th, I’ll know which one I want.

You don’t have to go to an Apple Store at ANY time. You can sit at home and receive it, and sit at home to return it. If sitting at home is laborious…

Employees at Apple retail stores are planning for overnight updates following the September 12 "Wonderlust" event, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Apple retail workers will be getting stores ready for the launch of the iPhone 15 models and other devices.

Gurman suggests that the overnight update could be because Apple is planning for near-immediate availability of new products after the event, but it could also be time that is used to put up new marketing materials. It is not unusual for Apple retail stores to receive overnight updates ahead of new product launches.

If Apple follows past product debut timelines, the iPhone 15 models will be available for pre-order on the Friday after the event (September 15), with a launch to follow the next Friday, which would be September 22. While there were rumors several weeks ago about potential delays for some of the iPhone 15 Pro models, more recent information has suggested those issues have been solved.

We are now expecting all four of the iPhone 15 models to launch simultaneously, though it is likely that the 15 Pro and Pro Max will be available in more limited supply than the standard iPhone 15 models.

Apple at the event is also expected to introduce new Apple Watch Series 9 models, the Apple Watch Ultra 2, and a version of the AirPods Pro 2 that come with a USB-C case. With the new iPhone models and the AirPods Pro transitioning to USB-C, the store downtime could be related to a push to inform customers about the change, but it could also be aimed at the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which will have a unique "periscope" telephoto lens.

Also the periscope lens will only be available on the 15 Pro Max which is something to consider. 16 Pro should get it next year for those of us waiting until next year’s minor redesign.

I understand wanting to hold/see the phones in real life before ordering, but remember that that there will be videos recorded by the press the same day of the event that show the colors pretty accurately.

I know there’s a lot of artificial lighting at the event in the demo area, but I feel like the videos recorded will give you an accurate look at the colors.

Ditto. Battery life and camera zoom are the PM draws for me.

I just worry it might be too big. I think I'll run into the ATT store and check out the 14 PM vs the 14 Pro. It won't be exact, but it should be close enough.

Let us test out the iPhone model before pre-ordering goes live. The renders don't help much.

It would be nice if Apple could have the iPhone 15 products on display a few days early so people can test out the new material Titanium. In addition, I'm glad to hear that all iPhone 15 models are launching simultaneously. This is great news!
You’re going to buy one, even if you don’t get your hands on one first!

This one would explain why they come out of the box with only 60-70% charge even right after they come out. Sipping power waiting for this signal then installing it and shutting off. If this is correct it’s impressive that their failure rate is so low.

We are camped out, nerd mall security says we can’t sleep here but we will fight them if they try to make us leave.
Sure you will because who doesn’t want to spend sometime in jail for trespassing and assault. 🙄

Worked in an Apple Store for 8 years, the overnight store overhauls were always so much fun. Stock up on Redbull, flip the store from 11PM to 6AM. Go home and sleep for a few hours and then come in an work 8 more hours. Overtime was great!
used to work retail during university. Not Apple, but same similar type of work with another tech retailer. so much fun. Especially if you worked with cool people. Boxing day madness was insane too. I hope my kids get to experience that rush one day. Shaped me in my work ethic later in life/now.

I'm actually a pro iphone user and this is the first year im highly contemplating a non pro.
I feel like the features are lost on me...and 90% of real life users. it's like buying a ferrari.. sure its cool, but practically I'd rather an SUV for my daily routines. And I don't have any desire to have a "cool" phone.

Would be nice to have the new phones available to look at Tuesday thru Friday so you can view before you order.
