Nice to see Nintendo bring their signature character to iOS. This is a game I'm likely to buy and have long term fun with (I hope).

Wait a second...

Super Mario Run. Exclusive to App Store. The App Store is available on iPhone 7. 7. NX is Nintendo's seventh main console. iPhone 7 can link up to Apple TV... making it a pseudo-console. NX = iPhone 7 confirmed.

True platformers are better suited to a Mac/PC, or even the TVOS. They would be clunky controlled on a touchscreen mobile, that's why endless runners are everywhere on mobile because the runners require simpler controls/movement.
Leo's Fortune proves you wrong in the most dramatic way possible.

It's not a Mario game, but it's unquestionably a classic platformer by any standard, and it plays fantastically on an iPhone.

I've never tried the desktop version of the game, but the iOS version is easily one of the best platformers of all time, on any platform, period, and I say that as someone who has been playing platformers since the original SMB.

Also: What I really think Nintendo should have done years ago was release a 3rd party controller for the iPhone that was either required or recommended to play their 1st party big-name titles. Basically use an iPhone as the guts of a Nintendo portable.

Hmm.. Am I the only one that's really disappointed? A damn one-tap running game like 1000 other games?

What you're forgetting is that this uses Super Mario's pyshics. Depending on your timing and how you press, Mario will jump accordingly and differently each time. It's also not like any other endless runner. Mario can stop to wait for safe passage.

It looks well executed. One hand play is going to make this one addictive game.

I think this is a big win for Apple (and Nintendo). To get Shigeru Miyamoto on stage and at the top of the keynote is pretty amazing.

I also think this is a big first step for Nintendo. They are testing the waters with this Mario game. I hope it's a huge success.

I also think Nintendo is the reason Apple lifted the "must use the Siri remote for gaming" restriction on Apple TV. My hunch is that Nintendo's NX console controllers will work with other devices.
