Someone has money to burn. i guess this is what happens when you make tons of money off chinese workers

Q: what do you call grocery cashiers in China?

A: Chinese Checkers?

Do you feel like Chinese workers are being exploited to make Apple products? Do you know the status of the average Chinese citizen compared to one who works on products Apple produces? I think you would be surprised.

Very interesting. I was there on opening day. I wonder what useful improvements will be made over the cosmetic ones... :)

It will likely discontinue some ports, be only marginally faster, but a lot thinner. There will be outrage over this on the internet, but fanbois will come anyway. And in the end reviews from Engadget, Gizmodo and Macrumors will show that it's a marked improvement over the previous version.

Two words:
Transparent aluminum.

Did they endup getting that trademark?

Wow. Working in commercial construction and having dealt with projects with galss on them, this is just unbeleiveable. This would be like if they came out tomorrow with a processor that runs at 5Ghz and puts out 1/4 the heat.

I wonder if they needed to make some upgrades to the pavers and drainage as mentioned (maybe due to potential leaks?) and had to take the cube down to do it and figured if they were going to R&R the cube, they may as well make a statement while they were at at.

They're spending $6 million to put in bigger panes?!?
I don't get it.
My guess is one day a guy named Steve walked into the cube and looked around. He probably said something to a guy standing by him (whose name was Tim or Ron), "It's too busy. Why can't it be simpler?"

I'm betting steve was bothered by the fact that when you stood in front of it, the lines interrupted the view of the Apple Logo.
They are big on visual design.
That said, I'd rather have a dividend check.

This might be a stretch, but maybe this is foreshadowing about larger displays on the next iPhone?

It's just a bit of a stretch.

This makes me remember the G4 Cube :).

I would love a new Cube shapped computer from Apple.

In a few more years, it will be replaced with a shimmering force field..

With a tunnel straight through the center of the earth to China. They just drop finished product in a hole in Shenzhen and it pops out minutes later in New York, hits the glass dome (like a big catcher's mitt) and plops to the ground. :)

FFS, who really cares?
There is Mac rumors..and there is Apple obsessive..it is just the fabric of a high street retail outlet for God's sake !!

The lone voice of sanity. The Appleonians will not like this comment.

I wonder how long before some idiot throws a rock through 1/15 of the entrance.

You have no idea how strong the glass will have to be. In addition to supporting the weight of the roof panels, NY code requires a flat roof to be able to hold 8 feet of snow. If the cube is 40 feet on a side, that's 12,800 cubic feet (40 x 40 x 8) of snow. Assuming heavy snow weighs 20 lb per cubic foot (google it if you don't believe me), then you're talking 256,000 lbs of snow atop that cube. I assure you that a rock will not break that glass.

re aapl semaless glass panes

1) nice work aapl - so awesome - more companies should be more like you
from product design to retail store design
2) london store need the bullet-proof glass version

"london calling..." - the clash
