I have literally had every Apple phone since the original in 2007. Have never cracked a screen or purchased Apple care. In ordering the Air, I added AC. Every year they are supposedly more durable but I’m not sure how the Air will hold up.
If you base the what tradesman charge vs the value of what they're working on, it's less than 0.1% of the value of the product. You'd be up in arms too if plumbers and electricians charged 10% of the value of your house for repairs. Is it? Most services charge $100-$200 for an hour of labor. Car repair, plumbers, electricians, etc. The battery takes about 60 minutes to replace. Plus the cost of goods. $119 is completely reasonable.
Because like they said you don't have to use them. There are at least 5 other places that replace iPhone batteries. Of course you can also have Apple Care.why are you even defending them?
That is such a weird analogy and just does not make sense. A battery is a consumable. A better example would be car brakes or tires. Which, depending on the quality you get, could easily be 10% of the value of the car. Brakes and tires on my car are $4,500 (including labor). The MSRP of my car was $47,000. So yes, its about 10%.If you base the what tradesman charge vs the value of what they're working on, it's less than 0.1% of the value of the product. You'd be up in arms too if plumbers and electricians charged 10% of the value of your house for repairs.
It implies immorality though, which many here maintain Apple is guilty of, but which a high price isn't indicative of. The only time morality comes into play regarding high price is when the customer has no choice but to pay it--eg. for medication to live. In the case of this battery replacement and in almost all cases regarding tech products, someone can simply choose to not to buy the item in question from the vendor in question and go on living their life. So the high price even if it was a million dollars, is not immoral--at worst it's just absurd, but even this is subjective. It's a figure of speech. I doubt they're calling the police.
Your comment made me curious how much Google charges to replace a battery. It costs $179 to have them replace the battery on a Pixel 9 Pro XL.$119 for a battery replacement is criminal.
I’m guessing that “Other damage” figure is just a full replacement phone, rather than a repair attempt!Honestly, I thought it would be worse ngl. That "Other damage" scares me though
Those have batteries?!?Have you seen the price for the wheels for the MacPro?
How much do they charge to replace the battery in a $20 Casio? Probably more than 100% of the cost of the watch, but that’s just how it is sometimes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯If you base the what tradesman charge vs the value of what they're working on, it's less than 0.1% of the value of the product. $119 for a battery replacement is criminal.
Right? The battery will be good for 3 years at least, 4 or 5 if babied. It’s a one time replacement for the useful life of the phone. 100% worth it to pay to have Apple do it right, and with OEM parts. Not wanting to be "that guy," but if you find $119 for a very rare battery replacement "criminal" then maybe you shouldn't be buying from Apple?
I've come to accept Apple's prices as the cost of entry, so it's up to me if I want to enter or not.
It is what it is.Right? The battery will be good for 3 years at least, 4 or 5 if babied. It’s a one time replacement for the useful life of the phone. 100% worth it to pay to have Apple do it right, and with OEM parts.
The Apple technicians need to be paid a living wage, and I’m guessing they also build in a bit extra to account for displays or backs that may crack during battery replacement, or any other unintentional damage. With how thin the Air is maybe they expect that to happen more frequently?
Do I get my choice of Ford even from the discontinued line up? I'd take a Ford Shelby GT, '67 vintage if possible. At least I know it will comes with working turn signals. It is what it is.
You want a Ford, or a BMW?
why are you even defending them?

Depends on how much they are ripping you off. In this case it's a decent ammount. If 3rd parties can run a business and offer a cheaper price, then yes, it should be criminal.
I’m hoping it isn’t the price for replacing something on the logic board like the cameras and senders, etc.I’m guessing that “Other damage” figure is just a full replacement phone, rather than a repair attempt!
