Repair costs are very high as usual. Without AppleCare and repair charges as high as $699, it will be better off buying a new base model iPhone in case something goes wrong.

You're comparing skilled trades that requires heavy physical labor, exposure to outside elements, and often dirty liquids with a battery repair?

When was the last time you saw a car repair or plumbing repair kiosk at the mall? Was it run by a skinny teen who promised a quick repair in 30 minutes?
A quick note from someone who does these every day: 30 minutes is completely unreasonable, and anyone promising that is cutting a corner somewhere. The most common corner I see cut is not removing the adhesive and reapplying fresh adhesive and activating it (with pressure). If you just open it up, replace the battery, then clip the screen back on you can do a battery replacement within 30 minutes. This leaves you with zero protection against liquid/dust intrusion.

If you’re flipping burgers @ McDonalds for a living, you should probably stay away from Apple.Inc products… 😉

$119 for a battery replacement is criminal.
Considering the cost of a new iPhone and that Apple will replace that battery in store, with a genuine Apple part and it comes with a rock solid warranty. I’d say it’s really good value.

I wouldn’t let any other company touch my Apple devices.

This is one aspect of Apple, servicing options and service are the best in industry for consumers.
