I assume everyone else also thought the name was a joke until he kept moving on... lol.

eGPU announcement is great. Having the window server under Metal has me hopeful for an even smoother interface. Blocking video autoplay is a must. Having experienced things like fast copy with BTRFS on my NAS was great, excited for APFS in macOS as well.

Sounded like eGPUs need to use the Metal library. I doubt Apple intends to support Nvidia eGPU setups. Which is a big disappointment for gamers. Developers don't want to support Metal.

Possibly not official Nvidia support, but...

Wish instead of Metal 2 they included support for Vulkan, then gaming on Mac might become a lot more popular (and efficient).

I thought the name was a joke. So did the audience. They all laughed but as time went along, they went silent as they realized the guy wasn't kidding. Maybe if you live in CA the name makes sense? People outside the bubble clearly thought it was stupid, because it is. More minor tweaks. The new file system might be good to have but aside from that it's extremely lame... like everything today (worst being that speaker atrocity).

Very disappointing and really shows where the Mac is the lineup of priorities for Apple.

Apple really can't win can they. Since they moved to annual updates, people were constantly bitching about how the development cycle was too short, they were too focussed on adding features and bugs were getting missed.

So for the last few releases they have been using a major-minor cycle (Yosemite was major, El Capitan focused on bugs) and they get people moaning about the lack of features.

My guess is that they also limited the new features because of how big an undertaking a new default file system is and they did not want to add more unknowns into the mix.

APFS and eGPU. Wishlist: granted.

Snow Leopard, Mountain Lion, and El Capitan have been my most trouble-free macOS experiences to date, so I expect this one will continue in that tradition.

The joke was just that, a joke. There's nothing dumb about it. Do you really not know how to interpret English? It's a refinement of Sierra, so it's called High Sierra. It has the double meaning of highest point of the Sierra peaks, and also "high" as in ranking. High King, High Admiral, High Court, etc.

It would be nice if the new Photos app in High Sierra would support storing the library on a network drive, so I could finally get it off my 128 Gb MacBook Air.

Well looks like VMWare Fusion is totally dead won't open. Hopefully a fix will come soon I need to use the darn thing.

Don't know for sure but my 2011 mini is running Sierra just fine. Since High Sierra is basically a refinement of Sierra, I would suspect it will. Fingers crossed.
I'm running Sierra as well but they are changing a pretty major file system, it's not a small change

Stupid Question but will I be able to use my Time Capsule to perform backups in High Sierra?

I doubt it. I bet they will be announcing a new cloud-based backup system which takes advantage of new APFS features.

Shame there's still no Vulkan support. That with e-GPU could've been huge!

Nice to see Safari is going to be faster. As well as enhanced privacy stuff.

H.265 is long overdue but happy to finally see it.

APFS will be great, just wonder if I can convert my current system or will have to do a fresh install.
