Dell's choice is infinitely better.. they did better. Apple only made a ****** camera in a large bezel. Or a good camera in a Hitler mustache. Which causes me emotional distress, it's not a safe notebook. It should be canceled.

Hidden cameras trigger my fears of big brother. Dells laptops arent safe and they should be canceled.

I would LOVE to hear your take and your reasoning to WHY, in your opinion, Apple added this Notch to their new Macbook Pros. I'm all ears.

because of the obcession of making a bezel less display, mean while they can't without having a front facing camera, so they decided to put a notch in a middle way between least bezels possible but also still have the camera.

now you have a chipped screen

Apple today shared a new support document that explains how users can ensure that an app's menu bar items do not appear hidden behind the notch, or the "camera housing" as Apple calls it, on the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models.

In the support document, Apple says users can turn on "scale to fit below built-in camera" for an app to adjust the active area of the display, ensuring that the app's menu bar items appear below the notch and are always visible.

Menu bar items appearing hidden behind the notch was demonstrated by Quinn Nelson, host of the YouTube channel Snazzy Labs.

To turn on "scale to fit below built-in camera" for an app on the new MacBook Pro models, open the Finder app and click on Applications in the sidebar. Then, right click on the desired app and select "Get Info." In the Info window that opens, check off the "scale to fit below built-in camera" box and the display will automatically adjust when the app is open.

The setting was demonstrated in a tweet by Joseph Angelo Todaro, a design advocate for Sketch.

Apple notes that developers can update their app to work better with the notch, in which case the "scale to fit below built-in camera" setting no longer appears.

Well, the setting appears in MacOs 12.4 on the "Get Info" pane on my new 14" MBP (M1), but it doesn't appear to do anything. There are still menubar icons hidden by the notch, and I can't even be sure which ones are hidden...because they are hidden. I think both Dropbox and Google Drive are hidden because I don't see them on the menu bar. So, what Apple giveth, Apple taketh away?

The setting ensures an app's menu bar menus (on the left) don't get obstructed by the notch. It doesn't offer a fix when you have an excess of menu bar extras (the menu bar icons on the right).

That said you might want to ask yourself whether it's desirable to have that many active menu bar extras. In any case you can use a third-party app like Bartender to help you with this issue. It can move the menu bar extras to a separate bar.

It's crazy though Apple doesn't have a more graceful system-wide solution to deal with the notch and too many menu bar menus and extras.

Thanks, I did discover Bartender and am trying it out now. So far, it resolves my problem with the right side menu items. I recognize there are a lot of menu items on my machine, but I really don't find any of them superfluous, although some of them installed automatically (like Avira antivirus) and don't provide an easy way to ditch. In some cases, an app wants either a menu or Dock entry, and my Dock doesn't need more stuff on it I love the new 14" MBP, especially the Magsafe power connector, the available ports, battery life. Bartender will make the notch a non-issue I think.
