The bigger issue with TV content is striking deals. Apple have been slowly working on this for a long time, and it's not really their fault that the cable companies are so slow in accepting change.
I'm not interested in the content Apple can provide, I'm talking about features in the tvOS operating system.

Screensaver updates are always good. But I just hope Apple implements Atmos to sound just as good as regular Atmos, and not some (sounds like) model.

How about enforcing some guidelines so gutter junk like the YouTube app gets rejected. We need proper, tailor made ATV apps.

Is somebody having luck with Dolby Atmos sound on Apple TV 4K? Nothing shows available on the iTunes movies app, but I found this on my Vudu app.

What more do you want? TVos is massively reliant on deals with content
Do you people really have no imagination? Notifications, News, Messages, Reminders, Calendar, FaceTime, picture-in-picture, multi-user, homepod/remote siri control, safari, resolution switching, live tv guides, audio passthrough, Weather, Control Center, iCloud backups, music visualizers, night shift, Home app, open Siri search API, network storage support, support for different containers and overlays in native video player, updated AW remote app, HDR10+, updated tvOS app store, Wallpapers, Handoff, VPN, etc. etc. etc.... even the UI and home screen could do with a revamp

Instead we get Atmos (great, but we all knew it was coming) and some new aerials..

Nothing about tvOS's features have anything to do with content agreements. Content is something I personally have no problem with on Apple TV.

Aside from audio passthrough and maybe HDR10+ I don't care about any of that.

...Floppy drive, Qi charger, English muffin-pizza oven...and it turns into a belt buckle.
But seriously, all I want is TV shows in 4K. It’s all about the content.

Can someone smarter than me tell me why Apple doesn't support 4K movies on iMac? It is natural since they sell 4K and 5K iMac....

Obviously it's not because these computers are not capable, so, it has to be something else:

None of the displays in any Mac supports HDR for VOD/streaming content (HDR is another thing altogether for photography).

I'm not sure why they don't support 4K (SDR) movies, although, Apple never adopted blu-ray discs either, probably more to do with licensing fees or not wanting to deal with decryption hardware.

I would venture to guess that Mac hardware does not have the HDCP 2.2 required to play 4K content, probably due to licensing fees or Apple not wanting to add that hardware?

The only Apple product at all that can play 4K content currently is the ATV 4K. While the iPhone 8/8+ & X, and latest iPad Pro models can play HDR, it is not at 4K resolution. (EDIT: also, 4K iTunes content is only available to stream, not downloadable.)

EDIT (2): It may be that the GPUs do not support whatever decryption is needed, whether that be for cost savings or for optimum performance, I am not sure.

I updated my Apple TV 4K to tvOS 12, I thought Dolby Atmos was gonna work with beta 1.
Apple announced it would be in tvOS 12, but, didn't specify beta 1 of 12.0. So, just like AirPlay 2, who knows when it will actually be implemented ‍ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yawn! Where is FaceTime for Apple TV?! Companies can then get rid of expensive Cisco video conferencing systems and will be great for families!

Also, what about 4K HDR AirPlay?!

Another curiosity for the next ATV, will Apple support ATSC 3.0 4K HDR?!

I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe you'd be better off with a Chromecast.
And Sounds like you would be better off with a MacBook or iMac
Hint: They already have all those items right there already, and with a built in screen :)
(Sarcasm due to you dismissing everyone - but you, of course - in your first post because they are not demanding all these things that you apparently feel are essential to Apple TV - do you see the "TV" in that? - that is why many of us bought it - to WATCH things!)

Don't forget it must be able to walk the dog too!

This clearly isn't the device for you. There are plenty of Android streamers that will accommodate, though the interface for any of this will be awful because it's a streaming box, not a PC. Think about it...

tvOS is directly competing with Android TV, and I would argue that tvOS actually has more features than Android TV and Apple has regularly added PC and Mobile-like ecosystem features to tvOS - I genuinely do not know what you are on about.

I really only want notifications honestly, but to claim tvOS has no room for improvement beyond Atmos and Aerials (which is the only reason I responded in the first place) is utter stupidity.

I never said it didn’t need improving, just that the things you said it should have won’t work on a streaming box. A web browser for example, what’s the point? Why not just use your phone, tablet or laptop? Apple doesn’t do this sort of thing because they know the experience will be bad on this kind of device. And what will notifications bring to the table?

The company is also upgrading Aerial screensavers in tvOS 12 with new Earth footage captured in collaboration with the International Space Station National Lab and the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space. The screensavers have been taken by NASA astronauts and filmed in 4K HDR, and all Apple TV Aerial screensavers will now be more interactive with location information and swipe-to-change features through the Siri Remote.

Article Link: Apple Reveals tvOS 12 With Dolby Atmos Support for Apple TV 4K, Aerial Screensaver Updates, and More

1) Are all of these features exclusive to the ATV 4K? I have a 4th gen ATV and I'm hoping I'll get some of these updates.

2) Will we be able to finally pick what aerial screensaver we want to download and display? The aerial screensavers has got to be one of the coolest features about the ATV.

Atmos is exclusive to the 4K - new aerials are on all models. I don’t think you can choose which aerials you want, no.
