I still don't understand how this is going to work, how are developers going to earn money with it, who selects which apps are going to have iAds and which wont? Who decides how much money is going to be given to each app, does it depend on the number of clicks users do while on the app? or is there a certain amount per app?

I'm sorry if i'm getting everything wrong, but i'm curious to know how this will work.

It's simple. Developers choose if they want to have iAds in their apps. They earn money when people see them (the more people the more money), and they earn more money if users actually click the ad.

You idiot... apple isnt going to use there own ad service to advertise themselves. Its not fair that everyone else gets to pay a bunch of money to use it and then apple just takes time away from them by putting a bunch of free ads up so people can see another iMac ad and go... yea yea ive seen it. I own one. I dont need this ad

You tell 'em, brother!

That would be almost as ridiculous as a television network airing commercials for their own series or a magazine using precious pages to try and sell subscriptions and back issues...

Knowing that I'm going to be running ads in my app to encourage users to go download and use someone else's app instead makes me really want to use iAd.

I thought that a majority of iPhone users used more than one app

I'd say it was memorable if you remember who the advertiser was.

Well they were memorable enough that you remember Nissan and not "some car company." That's all that matters sometimes in big-name branding.

The only reason I know it was Nissan because everyone is identifying it on this website. When people talk about iAds, they specifically state the "Nissan" iAd and I know from experience this is the only iAd that exists. So, putting 2 and 2 together, it must have been a Nissan ad I saw. Wow, what deductive reasoning! This is the reason I know it was a Nissan iAd. Not through the iAd itself. Nice try though.

Development

Who will be developing the interactive portion of the ads? I believe Apple was in control of the development of the initial ads, which they could afford given the $1 million price tag. My guess is this will not be the case with a reduced cost and small development companies.

I can already hear the complaints from developers about their ads not getting approved because they do not meet the quality standards of the iAd review process...

Then what's going to stop developers from choosing to use or not iAds? Well if i were a developer i'd use iAds, because even if my app is good or not using iAds seems to be worth it. Then, are we going to see ALL apps using iAds then?

Good job using no common sense...

Well, maybe they are using it and we will know WHEN IT OFFICIALLY LAUNCHES.

Yeah, I'm sure if it is a sucky platform, they would not use it, even though it's their platform. That makes good sense - not.

I've asked this question before - why does Apple not use iAd for its own ads? They have plenty of things, Displays, iMacs, MacBook Pros, Airports, and MacPros they could be advertised for. Also, since they have access to the analytics, I'm sure they know which users are syncing with Windows and OSX.

The only reason I can think of that Apple does not use iAd is that they know the platform is ineffectual.

There are actually two iAds available, Nissan and Dove. Nice try though.

Simple. People don't like ads (in apps they paid for), so they won't buy or use them which will make the developers less money. Ads have always been there anyways, they're just prettier and better now.

Why do you think that no TV-channel use half of the screen for commercial at all time? Nobody would watch.

I have yet to see any of these iAds. These advertisers are just throwing away money.

Well, what's your point. I see some iAd with robots or whatever in it. It doesn't take a genius to figure out it must be the infamous Nissan iAd and not for Dove. The point is, iAds lauched a month ago and all they have is 2 sucky adds. Both of which look pretty similar to Admob banners as long as you don't click on them.

When what launches? IAds? I thought it officially launched July 1st.

BTW, fillrates are so low on iAds ATM because they are only in the US. I, for example, live in the UK and don't see any iAds at all.

Do rotating iAds suppress ads for apps you already own, or at least those installed on the iOS device? It would be kind of a waste if an app showed you an ad for the very same app!

You can exclude advertisers that compete with you (or for any other reason). You can already do this with non-app iAds.

For the most part, advertisers only pay when their iAd actually appears in an app- and more if the ad is clicked on, etc.

Looks like they are going live. Payouts are about 20¢ per click. Far off from the $1.20 from the 'major' advertisers. But I will gladly take it if it means my fill rate goes up from 4-5%

Yes they are live. I saw it on my app (http://ttus.me/bVHcqo )

The most important data is still missing. Let's start by telling developers/media how many people opted-out for iAds. I mean. How else can one make business decisions... based on thin air?

You can't opt out of iAds. You can only opt out of sharing your location data with the iAd metrics. You will still see iAds, they just won't be geo-targeted.

Well, we don't know yet seeing as it is BRAND NEW. I'd expect so though. Apple have quite good device integration with the iAds (set as wallpaper, download apps from within ads) etc.

Look, iAds has $60 million ads invested into it. $1 million per ad. So, 2 in the first month is actually on track. In August, I expect we'll see four ads etcetera.

Unlike Admob, Apple doesn't want to just spam you with ads.
