This payment system has to launch worldwide. They can't afford to roll this out in America first. I mean we are still waiting for iTunes Radio n the UK

Bearing in mind we already have contactless payment in most of Europe, I suspect we'll get it straightaway.

We have it available in a lot of places in the US, too. Doesn't get used much though and I suspect that's the case in Europe also. Without any numbers to back it up, it's all conjecture.

What we will hear soon is how nfc payments are growing.

Cmon man this place was a hate factory when the topic of nfc came up in the past. Just look for any old articles referencing bluetooth LE and there will be an abundance of hate for nfc. :)

I'm sure there is. But if it's not the same person who hated anow loving, how does that mean anything?

just the general change in consensus is amusing. even during the early nfc rumors, there was mostly resistance here.

Haha I have a strange sense of deja vu. Its no different than the "General consensus" of android users making fun of a talking assistant on your phone and now saying how great google now is (and it is great). Or making fun of the ipad and now talking about how much better android tablets are. Just different opinions from different people.

Incidentally the person I quoted said it's the same people doing it. Its not though. Just different people with different opinions.

meh, I can't think of any scenarios that rival the hate towards NFC on these boards

To be fair, you can buy McDonalds, books, train tickets, starbucks, and many other things using contactless payment. It is widely used here. Personally I don't like it, but in Europe it is in common use.

I just gave you two. The ipad was skewered on android forums as a stupid product, and siri was laughed at all day.

Funny thing is with siri, some android developer created Iris the very next day and android users started talking about how awesome it was.

I suppose, but the android community gave in pretty quickly. I've found that the people that really hate the ipad (like my brother), havent bought any tablet. Anyone that went ahead and bought an android tablet likely hates ios, or wants to spend less, rather than hates the idea of the ipad itself.

Apple has resisted nfc for 3-4 years I believe? More time for the hate to build.

Can't argue with that. Incidentally, I genuinely think it would be funny if someone got caught in the act saying they hate something and then say they love it when apple does it. That person doesn't exist though.

One example wouldn't prove that all apple users do it either, but it would at least give the people who say that some kind of credibility. I for one will not be holding my breath on that one! :D

Well yes that's what I always hear whenever someone says that apple will make nfc popular. Someone from Europe inevitably posts and says its being used all over Europe. Yet there are no numbers to back it up that I've seen.

That's why I suspect it's not as widely used as they make you think. We can use it at mcdonalds, Starbucks, gas stations, and some convenience stores in the US too. But I've never seen one person do it, even people who I've observed using phones that have the capability.

So yeah, the method is probably available to use, but I don't buy that it's being used like crazy in Europe. Would love to be proved wrong though.

I referenced a fictional country for a reason...

Call me out when on Tuesday when it's announced it's to be rolled out to more than the US on day 1, more than happy to be proved wrong :)

Oh, I know the reason. I'm simply stating that "Elbonia" is better off than us in the Anglophone sphere...
