Well this is laughable. Samsung.fr rates their latest phone with 9.6.
The Fairphone 3, literally made to be user repairable with just a screwdriver, has a rating of 8.5.

This smells fishy.
U think, also how many people are interested in taking their phone apart ordering parts and fixing it them selves? Way to go Europe. Should help out about 700 people great job

Well, that's good for a laugh. Yeah, go ahead, try and fix that iDevice or M1 Mac on your own, especially when their proprietary SSD stick wears out prematurely. Wonder what Apple would charge you just for the SSD (and not the disassembly and installation required.....

What do the Air-Pods/Buds/headphone cans rate? A Zero? You can't replace the battery, even if you could access it without totally destroying your Air-device.

Hence it’s good to have that information visible to the public so new consumers don’t have to dig it up somewhere hidden in the spec sheets.

Well, it's pure greediness.
Cluing all together = profit

Look at the latest Macs, you can't swap RAM, nor the SSD anymore.
If it turns out that BigSur/M1 is really wearing SSDs out, like stated in the recent news, then customers will have a lot of fun.
1 Year later, when the warranty is over, Apple will say "it costs 300-600Eur to repair the logic board with the SSD".
Then the next lawsuit will knock on their door.

At the same time, they try to wear the white vest and put ******** marketing sites like that up:

Wonderful view - a corporation is out there to make money. Oh the outrage. Thank god we have all these other super repairable phones around.

I get it, some other Mac news rubbed you the wrong way. Thanks for stopping by.

Did Apple throw a tantrum like Epic or Facebook did when being asked to follow rules?

They’re probably trying to get hold of some former French prime ministers or similar to speak in a potential law case. So far they got a Twitter handle and a P.O. Box.

Yeah, it's so retarded, they create a problem and you have to pay for a solution as a consumer. I wanted to replace the battery on my 15" 2018 MBP. Guess what? The cost is close to 900 EUR because they have to change the whole top case with the keyboard, even though nothing's wrong with it that's just the way it works.

I bet it's similar in other countries too.
Battery service is at most $200. https://support.apple.com/mac/repair/service#battery

Yeah, not here. I'd pay 42 EUR for work and 754.80 EUR for Top Case with Battery... I don't know why the hell they have to change the whole top case.

The score is probably meaningless, and even if it's not, I don't care about repairing my phone. Average phone lasts what, 2 years? I keep my phones much longer than average, but still, it's pretty easy to just not break my phone.

You know where this matters? Cars.
Agreed, I normally don't break my iDevices and I have started to replace them every 2 years. Honestly, they will last much longer if they are treated well. As far as cars, I believer that there is a lot of technology change coming. Some are harder to repair than others. The auto techs are going to need to become much smarter and computer savvy. New cars have "black boxes" I have to admit I wish built-in...integrated front and rear "dashcams" were an option. So many people get them and the install/look of the is cluegy at best.

Today, yes. But in 2025, the cost of an iPhone 12 mainboard isn't going to be all that much compared to a new phone.

I bought a light sensor for my SE, it was around $15. That's $15 to fix vs $700 to replace.

The real crime is that if I replace my camera, or mainboard, or any other part, Apple won't let me use it because I didn't go to an Apple store to get it repaired. Nevermind if the device is EOL or otherwise un-repairable by Apple.
To me the main thing is it should be genuine Apple parts.....especially any part that can compromise security of the device (data, privacy). I think that there are officials Apple approved service centers...correct me if I am wrong.

Yeah, honestly with cars I'm hoping the market figures it out. A lot of auto mechanics will be out of a job, sadly. One reason I don't want to buy a Tesla is that repairs are super expensive. But I wouldn't mind leasing one, and the burden is on Tesla to ensure their cars remain valuable after the lease ends.

Yes, that is very true. A neighbor of mine just started working at a Tesla dealer as a repair tech. I have been playing with cars forever and my brother is a mechanic and has an independent shop. he has 15+ years as a senior tech at Chrysler. The worst cars to repair/work on are the German cars. They are so complex and over engineered. I had a neighbor with a passat and to replace the thermostat almost the whole front of the car had to come off. But as you said, the complexity of technology. He was telling me there some things that he can't repair, because you need very special equipment....the same thing with a windshield, if the replacement is not placed in the exact place and angle as the original, it will mess with the automatic braking. To recalibrate the system, you need a 30 x 30 space and a $35K laser calibration system. That is beyond an independent shop. As far as cars, does that mean we stop innovating and making them soo much safer than they have even been? it's a challenge.
