I have an Apple Pencil. It's pretty much useless as a mouse substitute.Or even better, why not an Apple Pencil on this day an age?
But then that would be too useful for some peoples liking.

Does this mean Apple will reintroduce the wired mouse, but with USB-C?
If anyone needs keyboard and a mouse on there iPad they are probably better of getting an Macbook.

Mouse ... mouse ... mouse ... I read mouse everywhere. Stop thinking like living in the 90s with Windows 98. I never use a mouse on MacBook since many years.
Magic Trackpad support is the only way to go! It even give us 3D Touch on iPad.
This will be a game changer in a lot of ways for the iPad pro... like this no longer will be just a tablet device, and people will be able to do actual work on it, it's going to be interesting to see.
USB keyboards already work on the iPad too. I did this on a lark, and it works fine.

(This setup needed power though, presumably because this old Mac keyboard includes a USB hub, so there is a USB power bank in the pic.)
SOME of the actions of a mouse are fine with a Pencil. However, when it comes right down to it, a Pencil is better described as a more precise finger than it is a mouse substitute. The functionality is different.I don’t have a pencil but I do use a Wacom pen for photo editing. There’s no reason one couldn’t use a pencil and trackpad in a similar fashion. I don’t use the pen for everything but for certain tasks it’s far more precise.
Steve Jobs turned over in his grave when Pencil support was added, cuz he said styli on iPads are stupid. Was that an earthquake or did this picture make Steve Jobs turn over in his grave?
There's a market for that.Don’t really see the point of this. iPad is intended to be a touch-centric device. The UI relies heavily on that and Apple Pencil (precision wise). Adding mouse support negates the purpose of the touch screen. They’re basically just appealing to the fans of the crappy Windows Hybrids devices.

You mean like multitasking, external USB support, stylus support, picture-in-picture, etc? Yeah, it will never happen.Important for the people who just brazenly ask for things without a clue what the experience would be like to pay attention here.
ACCESSIBILITY FEATURE. Translation: by no means a primary input method, or something that is ever intended to be used by a normal person.
Your iPad is never becoming a Laptop. Never. It is a laptop replacement for people who don't actually need a laptop.
If your assessment was any more amateur it would be written in crayon. You mean like multitasking, external USB support, stylus support, picture-in-picture? Yeah, it will never happen.
Possibly. but I think many people would be more productive if they carried a tablet and a laptop, esp designersThis will be a game changer in a lot of ways for the iPad pro... like this no longer will be just a tablet device, and people will be able to do actual work on it, it's going to be interesting to see.
Indeed. Crayon is a key feature iPads now have, aimed at the education market. If your assessment was any more amateur it would be written in crayon.
Even if they add mouse support it doesn't really enhance the workflow at all. Just another way of doing the exact same thing. iOS is more of a hinderance for productivity than a mouse is.I would love a mouse (bluetooth, USB, I don't give a crap) on the iPad, so when I get an after hours call, I can just carry a small messenger bag and an iPad, instead of my damn laptop everywhere.
I ended up fixing the problem by getting a Surface, which is actually a real computer. I love MacOS and iOS, but some of this stuff is getting really tiresome from an actual productivity standpoint.

It's not "just another way", it's a better way for doing most things that the tip of a fat finger. A pointer is not a new concept and there is a reason it's been around since the beginning of modern computers.Even if they add mouse support it doesn't really enhance the workflow at all. Just another way of doing the exact same thing. iOS is more of a hinderance for productivity than a mouse is.
People need to realize that the lack of a mouse input is not the real hinderance when it comes to making an iPad a real computer for productivity. The biggest problem is iOS itself. Adding a mouse doesn't make productivity better on the iPad because you can still do the same with touch input. iOS is neutered as an OS to do any real productivity.
