Isn’t it a haptic button? You would need a cutout for that.

If you look at the cases they sell for the 16s right now you'll see it's covered. It has a glass insert thingamajig.

Apple took the outer cover for the HomePod to a whole new level. This truly is the iPhone case for pro techs!

But seriously, I like the idea of a woven case - it just needs to be far more durable.

While we cannot confirm if these cases are the real deal, the replica boxes would certainly pass as impressive fakes, even in the world of generative AI images.
Really? It literally took me less than a minute to produce a similar image? Its not really that impressive.

Essentially my desire is the orange iPhone Pro with a case in that shade of dark green. However, when it is woven like that it will just eat whatever it gets in contact with and will be stained just like fine woven. It's such an odd choice. Probably all plastic again "for the enjoyment".

No leather no purchase, simple as that. And before I get hate about it being an animal product, its a natural byproduct of meat production. No one on earth kills a cow just for leather. The cow is killed for meat and the hide is a secondary product (as is the bones for broth and gelatin, etc etc)

I use leather myself and have nothing against people who do, but it’s disingenuous to talk about leather only as a byproduct. The process for tanning leather is an extremely polluting process because it produces wastewater containing heavy metals and adds lots of emissions (about 50% more on top of raising and butchering).

Just bring back leather, actually better for the environment, and won’t end up in landfill as quickly as any synthetic material.

Leather definitely feels better in the hand but isn’t really better for the environment. The tanning process actually adds a lot of emissions and toxic waste water to the environment. Leather is also not bio-degradable in the landfill and it’s hardly recycled either.

That said, phone cases are all plastic shells with a thin piece of some kind of materials attached via industrial adhesive anyway, so it hardly makes a difference what you choose.

Hmm… I don’t think it’s that simple that it’s a byproduct of meat production. The demand for leather sure affects the situation too, no?
@Xade
Feel free to motivate why what I wrote above was worthy of a downvote. :)
Vegan leather, ie plastic. No thanks.
No, not necessarily?

While older vegan leathers really were just plastic, today there are alternatives such as cactus, mushroom, and apple-based leathers that are very different. I think it’s something that gets developed and improved all the time.

Going caseless looks better, feels better, and is better for the environment. Moreso if the phone is repairable and durable enough to be kept in service for years.

I’m assuming they’ll also launch a line of these for iPhone 16 users too right?

Apple is planning to launch a new "TechWoven" line of cases for the iPhone 17 series, according to a leaker known as "Majin Bu."

TechWoven.jpg

Two years ago, Apple stopped selling leather iPhone cases, as part of the company's efforts to reduce its carbon emissions. As an alternative, Apple introduced a new "FineWoven" line of fabric iPhone cases made from 68% post-consumer recycled content, but they were prone to scratches and stains and ultimately discontinued. Now, it looks like Apple has gone back to the drawing board and come up with a new-and-improved solution.

TechWoven cases would be the spiritual successor to those much-maligned FineWoven cases, and it would be safe to assume that Apple took a lot of feedback into consideration. While still using fabric, the cases are said to offer "enhanced durability."

If the TechWoven branding is legitimate, perhaps the name is based on "technical textile."

In addition to a more durable design, the leaker reiterated that it will be possible to attach a lanyard to the cases, which appear to have tiny holes in the bottom-left and bottom-right corners for this purpose. While the boxes for the cases shown in the photos are said to be replicas, they are apparently representative of what Apple is actually planning.

If the replica box does prove to be representative, then it reveals that the cases will be compatible with a new "Crossbody Strap" option, which is presumably a large lanyard that can be worn around the neck. Wearing your iPhone has become a fashion trend in recent years, and a strap would also make it harder for a pickpocket to steal your iPhone.

The box also reveals that the cases are compatible with MagSafe and the Camera Control — no surprises there, but confirmation that those features continue to exist.

Color options will apparently include Black, Brown, Blue, Green, and Purple, although one box reveals that the colors will have more specific names like Sienna as usual.

While we cannot confirm if these cases are the real deal, the replica boxes would certainly pass as impressive fakes, even in the world of generative AI images. Nevertheless, some skepticism is always warranted with this type of rumor. Fortunately, Apple is expected to hold its iPhone 17 event in less than a month from now.

I'll get one. This year was the first time I had to go rubber and I hate it. I'd rather go back to the fine woven stuff than what they currently offer, and this looks at least better than that.

I’m not sure I get the move from leather. Millions of cows are still going to be slaughtered each year for their meat. Why not make use of their skin? I hope the skin isn’t just being wasted cos that’ll be worse in my view.
It's so they can virtue signal to their friends in CA and NY, otherwise theres no real reason for it. If they really cared about the environment as much as they say they do, they change hundreds of other things from the way the build and assemble the devices, who they use to do that work and who gets payoffs to allow it; from how they ship and transport their products to how many products they produce for the same market segment, etc, etc.

Picking the cases to make a 'customers be damned!' statement is a very odd way to make a stance.

They should try leather....it's great. My Tesla has vegan leather and it's garbage. For a premium vehicle it's just the worst compared to leather. Apple should just go back to something that has worked great for humans for 10,000 years...leather.

Since when was Tesla a premium vehicle? It’s an appliance and a nice one but there’s no way it’s a premium brand.

One does not simply replace leather.
...especially not with something called <xyz>Woven. It may roll off the tongue with only three syllables, but it sounds positively medieval to me.

fineWoven, techWoven, coarseWoven, illWoven, spiderWoven. See?

C'mon Apple, just call it "Ultra case" or "Pro case" if you need to justify a higher price.
